(Project for school) Животные
Whippets are truly amazing. I doubt I'll ever get another breed. My one year old, Yolandi, is the sweetest, funniest and most intelligent dog I've ever met.
they are the best dogs ever from one man and his whippet
I have four.
Janet Willmann Lucky You
👍😀🐾
Uhh, you mean Whippets and Beagles. 🤗
Noreen Hewson completely different breeds. Whippets are sight hounds. Beagles are hounds too.
I have 2
My dog is mostly whippet and he is awesome. He is 15 years old, deaf, and has one eye, but he stills loves to run and play.
me and my whippet love watching tv together. Rosie loves the nature channel.

Love this breed. Had my Whippet for 16 years.
I have a Chihuahua/Italian Greyhound dog and I have never had a greater attachment to a dog. Whippets are amazing friends
I also have a chihuahua/Italian greyhound that I got from the local animal shelter. Roxy is a total character. The kids and I love her and spoil her.
This is the best video I have seen on the Whippet. Most are boring and never cover much. Thanks
MY dictionary defines a whippet as an elemental spirit incarnated into a canine body to bring supreme joy and divine companionship to humans.
They are such adorable, snugly, cuddly puppies. I just adore them...We have a brindle colour one
They are the best breed in my opinion if you like greyhounds but they are too big, get a whippet!
Lovepup xo I agree
Yes they are nuce i got mine from texas since could not find one in miami .Her name is Antonella .😀full of energy .I also have cats and rabbits wich she do not attack .Greetings
yes.I also like greyhounds but its imposible to get a puppy greyhound ,so i got a whippet.
Very informative video and very accurate! I have a whippet x jack russell mix and your video was so on point with how he behaves!
Watching this while whippet sleeping in my lap
Same!!
Same!!
I love them! Growing up we had many different breeds of dogs but whippets just touch my soul. I'm on my fourth and he's a love! Don't tell anyone...it's our little secret!
I have a Whippet/Jack Russell mix and he has traits from both breeds. Great mix and I love all his quirks!
I have a 12 week old whippet pup at home and he's great, wasn't much of a dog person before but man he is heartmeltingly cute
Love my whippet ❤️ He’s the best dog ever
There are no long haired whippets. There are dogs descended from purposefully mixed shelties and whippets by a particular breeder. Also, it is "gait" not gate. Best to keep them away from the gate as they do have a speedy gait.
Cheryl Boyer, thanks for straightening that out. We were confused about the long hair bit.
(Very clever on the gait bit!)
Once you open the gate and the whippet is on its gate she or he wont be back without a dangling mouse squirrel chicken swan goose ducks on its mouth of course his or his victims are dead .be prepared bto pay the owners of his catch
I mean abd the whippet is on its gait
Cheryl, you may not be aware that a "'long-haired whippet" is another word for a Silken Windhound or it's cousin, the Silken Windsprite. These are indeed a type of lurcher as you stated - meaning they are bred from greyhound/whippets and a herding breed (usually). However, they have both evolved into registered breeds and are considered a full sighthound in their own right. Also, they were "purposefully mixed" just as MOST well known pure breeds were once created purposefully. They began as all do with one (or a handful) breeder but many knowledgable breeders were involved in the development of both breeds. The UKC accepted the silken windhound several years back as a breed, and the AKC may have also done it by now. Both of these breeds, again, are sometimes colloquially referred to as ""long-haired whippets"" since most of their bloodlines are indeed whippet.
@@greenshp I'm very familiar with silken windhounds and windsprites and think they are lovely dogs. They are not accepted by the AKC and are unlikely to do so as long as there are still objections by whippet fanciers who remember how the man who first bred them insisted they were rare whippets with a long forgotten recessive gene. This despite owning both whippets and shelties. Because of his dishonesty, many of those involved at the time are offended by calling them long haired whippets. I love the dogs - especially windhounds - and think it would be great if they were included in AKC sighthound sports. Several years ago I supported an effort to have them accepted for registration by AKC. They were accepted at about that time by UKC.
Love the Dogs 101 video that many of your clips were from. That was a great little show about the whippet. I have my 7th Whippet now and looking for a companion for her. They are fantastic dogs, but can be difficult as puppies!
Good video. I enjoyed it, our whippet is named shadow which is the perfect name for him. When my husband takes a shower Shadow lies pressed against the bathroom door until he comes out!! Haha.
Nice work/video, thanks for your work!
Great video.
Thanks.
Whippets have gears .in top gear coming from behind you on grass you,d think it was a horse . Beautiful to watch
Supper duper quiet. My whippet sounds like a farri when I'm trying to get him off my bed
Nice presentation on the Whippet. I want one!
What a beautiful dog! I just recently drew and painted my first one!
This was very well done. I have owned greyhounds (several) and a coonhound. I do have to contradict one point you made, as a former licensed veterinary professional: it is not a big issue to anesthetize a whippet or other sighthound in 2022, and it has been relatively safe in the past in the hands of a competent veterinary staff. A few decades ago, the type of general anesthetic that was commonly used in vet clinics was tough for thin sighthounds to metabolize (because these drugs are stored and used slowly, in the fat cells of the body; if there is little fat, the drug acts much differently and hits harder). But most veterinarians received special instruction in sighthound medication alternatives and special considerations, during their schooling anyway. However, nowadays we are using safer anesthetics for all dogs. I used to use vets who themselves had sight hounds or had worked extensively with them. As a foster care coordinator for a major state greyhound adoption, I took many a dog in to be spayed/neutered or have teeth cleaned. It was safe.
Nowadays, I would still recommend asking the vet before the whippet or greyhound is anesthetized for a dental cleaning, whether the vet is aware of past and possible issues with anesthetizing sighthounds. But there is really little to be concerned about. I also really want to emphasize that allowing teeth to remain covered with tartar (and thus bacterial growth which can and does enter the bloodstream through the gums) is far more dangerous to the whippet's health in the long run, that a few minutes of anesthesia. So yes - DO have their teeth cleaned thoroughly and professionally (brushing is NOT a substitute!) if your vet recommends it! This will protect their heart, kidneys and other organs and make them healthier in the long run.
Gait.
918V hahaha. Gate?! Srsly. Gait.
918V no one care’s
@@_spacejunk_5767 Obviously some do. Speak for yourself
@@_spacejunk_5767 GAIT!
@@_spacejunk_5767 GAIT!...'cares'...NOT care's! A 'Gate' is used to cordon an area.. A 'Gait' is a term used to describe a style or type of walking, or running, and some DO CARE! Having said that, a good video about one of the best sight-hounds!
Super video, great info, thanks so much!
We have 7 whippets at the moment, and all your points are spot on!
Any for sale lol
Juan Ortiz, yeah I think 2 of them.
@@f308gtb1977 any male new borns?
Juan Ortiz, both males, about 8 weeks old. (My wife is the actual knower of the dog things.)
Having lived with whippets, I agree with 99% of that video. I must of had the 1% of whippets that bark. Not a lot but when warning or wanting something.
That's interesting, because greyhounds are not big on barking, either. :)
The only thing my Whippet can hunt is me holding a packet of crisps
This is the first dog i've met that isn't scary
While all coat colors are acceptable, whippets most definitely do not come in a long-haired variety or multiple coat types. The standard states that the coat is "Short, close, smooth and firm in texture. Any other coat shall be a disqualification." If you see a dog that looks whippety but has a long coat, it might be a Silken Windhound. Blue eyes are also a disqualification for the show ring or ethical breeding, but dogs that have them are still very qualified to be wonderful, loving pets!
I have a whippet border collie mix ill tell ya she is all whippet,so gentle very smart ! Charasmatic, she is very very special in fact one of the most special dogs ive owned she is very unique !! I love whippets! Maybe one day ill get a full breed :)
getting 2 soon ... can’t wait
I have a whippet and a pointer they are so cute and playful
Lucky you 👍😀🐾
Cool video, great dogs!
Great video, I had two and while one didn't bark much the younger one did bark quite often. He used his bark to ask for treats and to warn me if there were other dogs nearby. It was never continuous or annoying.
whippet named Devo. cute
my family has a whippet and we love him so much! he's the sweetest friendliest dog ever! also, I heard the name is derived from the term "whappit" which means "a small yipping dog" and that they were bred by miners to keep pests away but also to provide racing entertainment that horses could not at a low cost.
mainly to catch rabbits
Perfect dog for me
Soooo cool
The origin of the whippet was a result of tenant farmers in north of England breeding runts in a greyhound litter with various terrier dogs. This occurred in the second half of the 19th century, not the 17th century as mentioned in the video. They were first recognised as a distinctive breed by the American Kennel Club in the 1890s.
My first dog is so gonna be a Whippet! Just need to get my bf on board.
I have two whippets! :D
Ho yes !
❤️
"Gait" not "Gate"< c'mon.
Nice short on whippets. One correction though it's gait not gate :)
Very informative and beautifully modulated Taylor.
I wish you rainbows my friend.
My family have had three. Out of the two we currently have one has really bad anxiety and eats a ton. He was fine up until we got another whippet for him to have some company. Now he eats all the time and is fat and we have had to put him on a diet.
Can hardly hear because of the music. Whippets are the best!
Aww
They definitely bark.
@ 2:46; tell me that is not the prettiest dog you've ever seen! Have to get me one of these!
My favorite breed
Sleek, just love them
Ex racing Greyhounds NEED a home, most Whippets are bred for showing only. Both make lovely pets however..
Most whippets are multipurpose dogs. They are bred to be wonderful well adjusted pets, but if well bred, they do well in the show ring and all of them do well in any prey driven sport or agility sport. Go to a good breeder and get a dog that can do it all.
We found our Whippet in an animal shelter. She recently passed. I'd look into getting a Greyhound if I wasn't renting a room. I've seen some Whippet/Terrier mixes on rescue sights. I'll definitely rescue an older dog first but it would be nice to get a Whippet puppy a little later.
There are no long haired whippets. Wind hounds are a debated breed.
Also, blue eyes indicate a non pure pedigree. They do NOT have blue eyes unless another breed such as a Collie being introduced to their lineage.
There is a mutation that causes the blue eyes in whippets they can still be a purebred dog. It does rinder them unshowable though.
I have a beautiful whippet named Bianca, and this is her, except she's loud. very loud.
the background music droning on while you talk is giving me suicidal depression
i feel so bad because our whippet stays at home 6 hours a day whilst were all at work and school 😞😞😞❤️
Mine too. I just got her though. Does yours get into a lot of trouble being alone?
no luckily not anymore,, she had training sessions though and at first she peed everywhere 🤷♀️🤷♀️
my dog stays in house while im at work 8 hours a day. he never chews anything the only thing he does do is ruffles the bed and scatters all his toys all over the place and bones . he is as happy as a pig in piss and gets a good run every nite
Look in your area for clubs that offer events such as straight line racing barn hunting, and agility. Whippets love these activities and you can make up for the lonely week days on the weekend. Mine love the one on one of playing ball, chasing a large horse ball and a lot of exercise for about 30 minutes in the afternoon. If you don't have a large yard, go to a nearby dog park. Your whippet needs to get out.
Same here
LOL - they don’t bark - my whippet barks too much!
Dplm Mac, ours only bark at each other, and not often; just during play. Which is good, because I wouldn’t tolerate much barking!
My whippet barks whenever a car comes down the road, someone walks by my house or he sees another dog
My whippet barks when people ring the doorbell or when people enter a room and can’t see who it is-
The word you want is spelled "gait".
Flat cap included :)
They DO bark!
ok so mine is a mix breed, she hates the heat and loves the snow and cold. If the outside temp is 75 degrees F plus, she looks at me like you suck, it's too hot, and when there is snow and it's cold. I have to force her inside, because she is too busy playing in the snow.
have they ever been breaed for food
This is my dog to the T!
Have never had a whippet.... greyhounds and Italian greyhounds ... I’m sure they are very similar
we've had both. I prefer the Whippet breed. The personality is more "terrier like". From the standpoint, of liking to show off. And they are almost cocky when they play and roughhouse.
Whippets are the best and if anyone hurts my whipet i will beat them so hard they will need to breathe and eat through a tube
when i leave my whippet at home he just sleeps all day
I'm being adopted by a brindle whirrier on Tues. (whippet terrier cross)
Informative video /one note-Gait not gate
I have rabbits is the dog good with rabbits
I want a whippet
How are whippets with household cats?
Better if they grow up together. I have a whippet who is afraid of cats but his mother hates them and would def kill if let loose. However, I see plenty of whippets/cat living like best buddies!
Whippets have a VERY strong pray drive. It’s not unheard of for a whippet to kill the house cat. *if* the dog is brought up with the cat and it’s established that the cat is part of its pack it can be ok. But always good to be cautious especially if you have a cat that likes to run around.
5:20 Spesh... ...Shul
Gait, not gate
Factually great video, and thats important as there's a number of very bad ones out there.. Sorry the VO talent got a little off later, but she's reading and I know I wouldnt do any better haha
You can’t just take clips from the dogs 101 videos and copy the things they said.
You're describing 99% of RUclips videos out there... pre-existing video used to make a new one. It's not for commercial purposes anyway.
decent video but i honestly just cant help but think you stole most of this from "dogs 101"
Enbarr Gaming totally stolen
Just thinking that...
Stole that’s the exact word.
A decent video, but having had whippets for 40 years, they neglect to mention that long coats and blue eyes are a disqualification in the breed standard. They can still be wonderful pets, but should not be used for breeding.
Should never leave them alone for long periods? So you can't have one if you work eight hours a day and are single?
Dave K nope nope nope. Get two or none. One left alone will be utterly miserable and will become neurotic and probably destructive
HeyItWorked99 I understand. That makes sense. Thanks for the info.
Dave K No worries. They're great dogs but really don't dig solitude, and being so smart makes them more vulnerable to lonely boredom than some of the lovable yet dumb mutts I've had over the years. My two keep each other company yet still act like I've just come back from Antarctica even if I just stepped out for five minutes to get milk....
I disagree about all whippets being left alone for long periods will become destructive. Some maybe. What's important is that they get to know that you'll be returning. All whippets have a form of excessive greeting syndrome, jumping up and dancing about, when their owner returns after some hours away. Ideally 2 whippets means there's less onus on the owner to be around to entertain/stimulate, but it's still possible to have just one, once they become accustomed to your routine.
My whippet Nigel is currently crashed out on the sofa happy as a pig in “what’s it”
GAIT not gate. Good gravy Marie.
*gait
Georgia Patrick no one care’s
The word’s “Gait”!
Whippets don't bark? Ha Ha neither of my Whippets would allow a burglar in.
My whispers is a mix you can see her on my profile pic
How are they on car trips?
Mine gets sick :(
Mine were sick as puppies but they grew out of it. I just used to make sure their bellies weren't full before a journey, and they had laps to sit on in the car for comfort. Oh, and took old rags for mopping!
@@slljarvis Ginger snaps work wonders for car sickness. Puppies get sick, but grow out of it. It has to do with the middle ear and when something matures in there, and then they usually sleep all the way.
"gait"
It's GAIT not 'gate'!!!
Gate and Gait are different things.
I’m really not an expert but isn’t it called a gait? Lol.
Whippets are FANTASTIC!!!
it's "gait" not "gate"
Great video.
It's gait, not gate, though.
Sunscreen on a whippet , where ?
Beautiful dogs, but when you're talking about the way they run, you mean "gait," not "gate."
GAIT GAIT HUMPH GRUMP LOVE WHIPPETS
Gait.... not Gate
5:08 you need to keep them well waterd
