  • So here we have it, my top box fell from my Motorcycle and is no more.
This was NOT a failure of the Givi TREKKER Top Box at all! this was a catastrophic failure of the Kawasaki GTR1400's top box mounting plate which decided that after 17 years in existence it wanted to snap and leave the bike.

What made it worse was the box was sliding towards an on coming vehicle ,making the impact effect even greater . I find these top box plate rubber cushions tend to lose their tension between mounting plate & top box base ,making the boxes rattle loose . Also that added to any wear that’s occurred over all the miles on the catch & reviver plate , can cause the box to suddenly fly off. One of my top boxes on one of my bikes is a GIVi & the other one is Chinese budget one that cost a third of the price . The cheap Chinese box is made out of the same material as the Givi & the lock & latch about as good . The mounting plate was also pretty much the same ,the only difference being the little rubber mounting cushions that stop the box rattling weren’t as big or dense as the ones on the Givi plate . I reckon these top boxes & plastic mounting plates are all made in China ,even the ones with GiVi & Shad on them .

I had a brand new Givi Trekker Dolomite fall off at about 50 mph on a dual carriageway on its first outing, it lasted 26 miles. Givi repaired the latch and sent the battered box back. Sports bike shop, to their credit refused to give me the battered box back and gave me a full refund for the top plate and top box.

Thanks for no injuries. I have Harley box on my VL1500, it has 2 steel plates with fiberglass sandwiched in between. But it has backrest, 2 speakers and arm rests. Would not be a good look for yours. My VL1500 averages about 30-40 mpg, take care.

Yes top boxes fall off because they are designed with minimal attachments and placed right on the perfect spot to give maximum leverage.
They are almost designed to fail.

I'm currently designing a new mount made from metal to attach the next one to. This next one shouldn't fall at all.

They're Bull-It three times stronger (than leather) absolutely love them but In the summer they're way too thick to be worn
