Hilarious they have the anchor buoy marker up at 42knots on this picture, must have been very eager to get back home for fuelling after relaxing day in the bay! Full speed saves time and apparently create some stress!
Love the pictures of Cujo cruising fast with the anchor ball up 🤦♂️
Maybe they have a really long anchor chain? haha
The two happiest days of owning a boat ,the day you buy it and the day you sell it,some would say the day you sell it is happier Regards
I looked up whether shipping containers can float and found this: "Most containers sink quite rapidly to the ocean floor once they hit the water. But depending on their contents, they may stay afloat for days or even weeks before sliding beneath the surface. This process can take even longer for refrigerated containers on account of their buoyant insulation." This info changes my perspective on traveling on the ocean.
I’ve seen 2 center consuls hit containers. They do a lot of damage my
What if the container is full of LifeJackets?
A few years ago containers with Porsche GT3RS went down near South America.
There was mention of a possible recovery effort? Google around.
But probably didn't bob around.
If you sail in any shipping channel regularly you will encounter a container at least once in your life. Multiple sailing bloggers have seen floating containers. There are currently no efforts to spot these containers and recover them or sink them unfortunately. People have definitely slammed into them a few times including cargo vessels or military ships.
Come to think back, we shipped Cat engines all over the globe.
We did make effort to seal well namely for corrosion, an impossible task. Mostly OTR engines but some marine too. White w/chrome of course.
WOW it was lucky everyone got out in time. Just a shame they lost everything apart from a few bags.
Great update 2x👍
Thank you for the Noelani update!
in BC we have a lot of deadheads just below the waters' surface, mainly logs and I'd hit those with my Skagit 17 foam core hull. The Skagit was built for steelhead fishing on the Skagit, a river in Wa. state. Lots of rocks there to hit!!
The Skagit... my old stomping grounds.
Thanks once more my fine friend 👍
Old Shoe🇺🇸
Thank you. Keep working, good luck.
As always, great reporting.
Enjoyed your reporting today. Thanks very much mate.
6:57 My boat is constantly being misreported by Marine Traffic. It is always being detected by the same station in Amsterdam. I had lots of emails back and forth with the technical staff but it could not be resolved. The verdict in the end was an other vessel using my MMSI but as the vessel was reported in both Small craft Marina, as well as container terminals, I did not see that as very likely.
Thank you for sharing your observations here.
For the AIS issue the most common scenario is just another transponder sending the same code. Either by entering the code by mistake or inheriting a previously installed device at the other ship.
Other reasonable case is someone injecting simulated NMEA for testing, even if intended to another ship system.
Super video as always! ❤
Good thing the Anchor ball was up and clearly visible when hey took these promo shots of the Cujo blasting along at 40kts..
Heck of a contrast, blasting along w/babe laying out and then later sinking with the furniture floating i the water.
The facts that the impact with a "floating object" was sufficient to fatally damage the hull and that flooding was reported in the engine room, both suggest that it was travelling at speed and `on the plane', enabling the object to impact the vessel midships. Cruising at lower speed would've led to a bow strike and perhaps survivable damage...
"Just sit right back, and hear a tale...." 🎶 🎵 ".....seven stranded castaways...."
Wow! Thank you...
Thank you
Fabulous.
Excellent
i like your shirt
Sad story , as usual very well acounted... congrats 😊
Sippy Yacht.
🤗🤗🤗
Thank god the people were saved! It's a beautiful boat.
Really? It's certainly unique looking, can't find any angle where she looks beautiful, looks like a cold war era amphibious assault craft in that colour.
Yes, I bet god had a lot to do with it. And that boat is one of the ugliest I've ever seen. You're 2 for 2.
In your years of reporting SuperYacht news, are the vessel fires, sinkings, and crashes just normal occurrences?
Thanks for everything you do!
❤🚢⛵
He has answered this in previous videos. The answer is yes. In the case of the sinking of this yacht, that Princess Di used a lot, they were probably traveling at high speed and could have possibly hit a lost shipping container that fell off a ship in rough weather. It happens more than one would think, although it is an anomaly when a boat hits one. But this boat was a high-speed boat that even something smaller floating would have done a lot of damage to it. The process of collecting on insurance can be cumbersome and seriously hard to do, and the boats are generally able to fetch more money floating than they are from insurance.
that question does not fit with the current narrative, um.... racist
@@dirttdude Do you have mental health issues ?
Ah, I see what @dirttdude is getting at. By asking about vessel fires, sinkings, and crashes, @paulahoskins9972 could be indirectly linking such unfortunate events to certain nationalities or cultures, possibly seen as more prone to such occurrences due to inherent stereotypes. The comment, though seemingly benign, may perpetuate such biases. It's crucial to maintain a discourse that doesn't inadvertently cast a negative light on any group. Let's be mindful and considerate in our discussions.

Curiouser and Curiouser about Eclipse! I'll be interested to see what turns up. Loved and laughed at your speculation about the upgrades allowing such speed, overland no less. An amphibious VTOL vessel?
Thanks for the updates! Perhaps one of the subscribers will actually lay eyes on Eclipse, in either port, and we will at least know where she is.
Cujo crew probably hit their own anchor.😂 In one photograph it's obvious that they go fast but still have the ball shape on the forward mast. 😅
That is a good one.. and plausible.. The chain clasp bolt was not wired and came loose.. I have situations like this happen with tractor's implements while raking hay.. and this would account for the obvious sonar/radar counter measures not being able to alert for an avoidance of a water object..
@@tsclly2377 when vessels are on anchor are obliged to show the ball shape (daylight). It's clear that when they had the promotional photoshoot they forgot to lower the shape. I was just joking at the earliest comment.
GPS data problems is from the satellites getting hit by the stuff coming off the sun.
It all fits ie: moved then moved back.
There is lots of stuff like this that happened around those dates.
Thank you for updates!
You mean coronal mass ejections?
@@TesterAnimal1 ya that the start of it.

Very interesting story about CUJO: shame it sunk.
Another old p.t to Davy Jones. Halliburton's SilverQueen, a beautiful old Hutchens went down around St. Thomas in the past year or so of new ownership. I hope they were able to salvage her.
Bummer about Cujo. It was such an unusual and cool yacht. Simon Kidston used it for some short films a year or two ago just after it’s most recent refit.
Shame about the yacht sinking. I recall the pictures that was published by the media when the People's Princess was on the yacht . " A time lost now in time" however the new yacht awesome.

MY Norn. I would be interested to see a breakdown of how it costs 25 million a year to run it....
Perhaps the AIS device was removed and taken by plane to the destination for maintenance or upgrade. Then powered up on the lab bench…
Well, was the upcoming refit too expensive?
When a boat sinks in glassy seas and bright sunshine not far from the coast, but without shoals nearby, I always have considerable doubts
This is really sad. 🧡🙏🏻
WHAT A SAD SAD MOMENT FOR THE BEAUTIFUL SEA CREATURES IN THE SINK ZONE.... 😢😢 JUST OVER THESE ENVIROMENTAL DISASTERS...
Actually sunk boats are usually good for sea life, they often form foundations for new reefs and increase the variety of creatures that can live where they land. I've watched youtube videos of government agencies deliberately sinking scrapped boats in carefully chosen locations, for this purpose.
I think one was an ex-coast guard boat in the Carribean. The other case was possibly in Turkey, where the underwater landscape was a barren desert, just sand, except for at the sunk boat, where a whole population of sea life occupied the boat, attracting other sea life to the vicinity.
@@cjk472in 2001 an ex-RAN vessel was scuttled in the harbour in Albany WA. It is a dive wreck.
*Depth* I had no idea that the Mediterranean could be 2,600 metres in depth 😲

@@TheJhtlag Thank you !
So many of these yachts, either sink or catch fire how strange is that?
Princess Diana's Yacht sank?
I hope she is okay. She's been through so much.
Some would say the last 30 years have been peaceful
😂😂😂
to my knowledge the ais signal is transmitted from the vhs radio signal . What if this identified radio is moved on a chopper
or plane ??? The time frame would then be plausible to move that distance . First, we have to know if in fact the boat has moved from it's berth. Good day
If you get time consider a video about the crew if you have not done so already. What are they, what do they do and what are they responsible for etc.
They were definitely traveling fast to hit something that hard. Logs can even take out slower sailing yachts!
Thanks for the news!
You could fly with private small airplane from Marmaris to Istanbul in 4 hrs (single engine airplane), and the Yacht's electronic tranceiver on board the plane 🤧
Eclipse - what if the AIS transponder was flown up and back for a repair or something - would that be possible? If so and it was powered back on at each end of the journey - the appearance of warp speed and straight line route would make some sense lol.....or simply a data error - wouldn't be the first!
I dunno, I think of my GPS watch which can sometimes go haywire walking or riding a bike, once it syncs up again with a satellite it will just draw a straight line. Figure one bad data point could do that but it's curious that the "accidental' data is a place where a ship could easily be instead of being hundreds of mile inland. Data manipulation?
YaY, Sinking Yacht News!!! It's said Alien Craft like to mock our crafts, this flying yacht deal could have been a UFO mocking the signals. Just saying, there's all kinds of them lately.
When the Captain said "Engage!" his Chief in the engine room replied "I'm giving her all she's got!"
Nice drone work. Do you get hassled by the various places in which you operate when you fly the drone?
Did this vessel use the tracking system the big yachts use? if so, does is show speed?
I wonder if someone nearby the yacht were generating spoof GPS signals?
As to the issue of Eclipse, I'm asking this because I'm not familiar with AIS equipment. Are the AIS transmitters portable enough that they could be removed and still transmit? If so, could they have been transported by plane while still transmitting?
An AIS transmitter is pretty small, like shoebox size or smaller and runs on a 12 volt feed so removing and transorting one would be possible for sure... however there are multiple ways to create false or misleading signals which is more likely what happened
Seems more like helicopter speed to me. I think it would need power sources to be fed to it.
@@bcluett1697 maybe, or just a hiccup in the system, it seems convenient but stranger things can happen with ais
08:50 I know that, as a general rule, cost is calculated at about 10% of the total value.
I would like to see a video of how this 10% is made up. Wow - $20m just to have it!
Thanks for your interesting reports.
Eclipse traversed a wormhole and actually sailed BACKWARD in time. I have proof but I can't release it to the public.
🤣🤣
FT are reporting that Scheherezade is being refitted while impounded, and crew reckon it's off to Russia soon. Any ideas?
👍👍
Great vid. How will they recover the fuel oil from the yacht that sank in France?
You could drive Marmaris - Dalaman and fly on to Istanbul in three hours, carrying an AIS transponder - either for fun or repair.
I prefer to believe the super yacht land speed record as that is the most fun
Princess Diana - Sinking doesn’t say much about the compartmentalization of the original design or perhaps watertight integrity was compromised during modifications in the past. Looks like progressive flooding of unknown origin. Maybe yacht hit something, maybe a watertight fitting failed, maybe an insurance payout given its age?
PS - 2500 meters of water probably means wreck won’t be recovered unless French military wants to conduct a salvage exercise.
If they were flying along at around 35 knots or so then a solid object could easily have hit the bottom of the hull multiple times or effectively be dragged along the underneath of the entire underside of the hull. Hence multiple holes.
If you think about a slipping container filled with electronic devices, all packed in styrofoam you have a container that will float for years. And once covered in marine growth, almost invisible.
Cujo? Stephen King fan I guess 🐶
Have you ever seen any shipping container floating on the ocean? They fall off in storms sometimes.
Likely a rock floating in the water.
😂😂
Stop drinking 😂
THe insurance claims will read as such . They’re used to trees hitting cars, so this one is a no brainer
A Maxwell Smart Rock
A container filled with fake rubber dog dookie from Hong Kong 🇭🇰 🤣
Could a tarporlin be put over a hull hole and bilge pumps keep a boat like this afloat until it can be craned out carefully to safety?
These yachts are too big imo. I’d much rather have a smaller Italian Yacht made by Azimut. Those boats are beautiful.
A lot of things going on!
20-25million per year to maintain a yacht. Thats incredible.
Does anyone ever put a "warp" on a yacht? Like that classic military yacht that sank as your first story, it would be fun to put a crazy fun colorful wrap on a ship like that. 😂
one is for sale wrapped in gold. I can't imagine it lasting as long as a wrap on a Tesla. !!
@@user-zp7jp1vk2i I think I know the one your are talking about....Yea, I would guess it definitely has to be above the water line...Or, I guess just do a crazy paint job like some Barbie themed yacht I saw somewhere..
Was the PD a steel Hull vessel?
Is it possible that MY Eclipse's AIS transponder was flown to Istanbul?
The 29th of July would also of been the anniversary of the day, Diana married Charles. I know this cause it was on my 10th birthday in 1981.
It's a small world. the Mohammed Khashoggi who once owned Cujo is also the cousin of Jamal Khashoggi, the journalist who disappeared after a visit to the Saudi consulate in Turkey. All kinds of interesting things go on with this family.
The grandfather, also named Mohammed, was personal physician to King Abdulaziz.
Mohammed is a very common name.
I wonder what they hit with that yacht. It must have been something substantial if it put a hole in the hull.
They hit something that breached the hull but taking on water in the engine room?
They had a generous insurance deal on it? 😉
Simon Kidston’s boat 😭
Wow ship go down in same country as Diana died in spooky

Eclipse WarpSpeed. I’ve seen this in the Chicago to Mackinac Island Race where the electronic unit was removed from the boat and placed in a car.
Another possibility is that the unit was replaced.
Great show by the way.
How about a high speed tender using the same AIS?
When will yachts like this one, ever be fitted out with Airbags that can be deployed in moments like these, to help keep the yacht ⛵ from sinking? I think Airbags are a jolly good idea.
Even her Yacht died... damn
That AIS thing is weird. My first thought was that someone put the AIS unit on a plane...
Could be. Put your AIS on a helicopter and then fly it off. Light helicopters cruise at 100-140mph so this is likely what happened.
I'm surprised they didn't try to repair the hole with a piece of plywood and some screws in that yacht before they floated it. Must not have been able to.
Maybe the Eclipse owners removed the AIS, kept it powered, and flew it to Istanbul and back in a light airplane🙂
Oh this is a loss. Boo. That wasn't so much a yacht as it was a floating historical crime scene museum.
😁❤
Super sus!
Koshogi and al fayed were cousins , i did not know that
The thought of royalty sinking into the ocean makes me feel better.
9:07 What is that catamaran? Is it a ferry?
Ah never mind, it's the Monaco One shuttle...
seems the "CUJO" was sold at auction in feb. 2020 for... 190 720€ yes under 200K, cheaper than many tenders ...so I guess someone is going to make a good profit with insurance as they will claim money spent for refit (800K spent on in 2017/2018) 🤣
So... The yacht got in a crash and "died" while people took pictures.
That's rough.
the cause was a hole in the boat
Oh muffy
Clancy-esque.
At 65ft it's more of a boat than a yacht....
July 29th? July 29th was the anniversary date of Princess Di's marriage to Prince Charles -- July 29, 1981.
That was a marvelous travel feature. Your acknowledment of the extreme wealth of the wealthy and their lifestye was a bit interesting. But no heros there. Ever notice that?
