Incredible musician. Helped build the Allman Brothers. Went to a Charlie Daniel's Volunteer Jam one year. His daughter sat next to my wife at the time, and our son Jordan, who was six years old. After his set she was kind enough to take us on his tour bus so we could meet him and spend a few minutes together. Got a great photo of Jordan shaking hands with him. Won't forget that day. Rest easy man.

Dickey Betts was a maestro of the Les Paul. He had his own musical voice with a tone all his own. ‘ Ramblin’ Man’ is an iconic slice of Americana at its best. The playing is elegant and fluid and combines a swathe of musical genres - God bless Mr Betts and I thank him for developing his talent and sharing it with us all.

June 12, 1977. Dickey Betts and Great Southern were the middle band on a 3 band bill at Charleston Civic Center with 38 Special and Lynyrd Skynyrd. He was touring his first solo release. He and his band were top-notch. R. I. P. Dickey.

Jaimo is the last man standing now...Dickie was a true legend..I'm 65 now & will forget the 1st time I heard the Allman Brothers Band..Little did I know I already knew Duane & Gregg from Daytona beach..I rushed across the street & bought the album after I heard Midnight Rider & recognized my neighbors..I used to sit in there backyard & listen to them play as teenagers..I was six or seven & when I told them I was from Nashville they became lifelong frinds & they were soon the best band in Daytona & I worked for Gregg off & on thu the years..Danny & Frankie Toler were good friends as well..I rode with Danny & Frankie to the ABB reunion at Starwood amphitheater in Nashville ( Jaimo was back so Frankie didn't get to play) ...I'm memory of Elizabeth Reed is one of the greatest instrumentals ever written & still played by many bands today...Check out Joe Russos Almost Dead version..It's a mind melting experience..LOL..I'm rambling at this point..RIP Dickie & hang in there Jaimo.🍑

A SAD DAY for all!! I'm a Florida native , and grew up in the Daytona Beach area- Greg and Duane went to my high school before I did- which was kind of cool! My favorite in the band was always Dickie Betts- he could sing, write songs, played killer lead guitar, and added a country/Celtic kind of element to the band. I especially LOVED his instrumental compositions! High Falls is a great- and under- rated instrumental! I saw DB's GREAT SOUTHERN in Orlando play Rock Bottom- great song! RIP- YOU will be missed!!

I won the first Dickie Betts solo album Highway Call at a school dance literally when it was just released, and the contest was sponsored by the local radio station. It was an odd album to give away at a middle school dance. I loved it though because I was raised on all music styles including country folk and bluegrass. I was 13 - now I'm 63 - holy s***! He had a good run!

I started playing in a band at age 16. About 3 years later, I bought a gold top Les Paul. A friend told me about "this new band" called the Allman Bros. After listening to "Live At The Fillmore" & "Eat A Peach", I was hooked. I can't tell you how many hours & days of my life I spent learning some of the Brothers tunes. I've got arthritis now & my damn left hand goes to sleep when I play and it pisses me off. I remember learning Stormy Monday & In Memory of Elizabeth Reed and thought maybe I was finally "getting it." 🤔 Those Allman Brothers guitars playing in harmony were so addictive. RIP Dickey, you caused me to work my ass off on guitar.

This is a very sad day for me & millions of Dickey Betts fans. This must be devastating for his family & friends! My condolences to them! Especially his son Duane, who was also a member of Great Southern. I discovered the Allman Brothers relatively late in life (in my 30’s) when the band revived themselves in the 1990’s. I saw them several times during the 90’s & was blown away each time. When Warren & Woody split from the Bros. to form Gov’t Mule, my friends & I would see them blow the roof off in these small dives. A similar fate would occur for Dickey & Great Southern in the early 2000’s when Dickey & the Bros. parted ways. Starting for me in 2006 I would check out Dickey & GS on an annual basis up until 2014. It was a real honor to watch him & his band play live. Dickey did not believe in mailing it in when he got on stage. He played the best he could for a few hundred folks as he did when he was playing for thousands of fans. I try to emulate his brilliant guitar playing but it isn’t easy. RIP Dickey Betts, legendary guitarist, songwriter, vocalist & band leader. Your music will live forever!!!

I told him that I knew the Brothers would have crashed and burned had it not been for his presence in the band. He gave me a heartfelt hug with a tear in his eye. I will never forget that moment. He influenced my guitar playing more than anyone else. I’m gonna miss you, Dickey.

Went too many great concerts in the S F Bay Area in the late 60’s and all though the 70’s. But the one that stands out most was the Allman Brothers on New Years Eve at the Cow Palace. That show was also broadcast live on KSAN, the FM radio station the played all the good rock. It was absolutely incredible. Played well past midnight, with dueling guitar solos going on forever. Throw in Greg on the keyboard with his solos, it was down right spiritual. The local guitar stores must have sold a lot of Les Pauls after seeing Dickey play that night. Keep Rambling on Dickey and thank you for all the great music and memories.

Dickey Betts could move through the scales on a guitar neck like no other. Every note would flow into the next note. He held the Allman Bros Band together when they were at their lowest point in their careers. It is sad to think that he didn't play with the ABB for the last 24 yrs. I'll never understand why Greg & Dickey could never reconcile their differences. RIP Mr Betts. Thanks for all the music you created.
