as much as i like this figure, i'm still holding out for the Mafex Cap. i don't mind paying more for their stuff since they usually balance it out with the amount of accessories and they all come with decent stands.
For years I collected Marvel Select over Marvel Legends, mainly because here in the UK at least from my experience collecting in the 2000's/early 2010's, I just had better luck finding them, and they fit in with the NECA and McFarlane figures I was collecting, Hasbro didn't really register on my radar. Sure there wasn't loads of figures being released and I was still fairly young and didn't really pay too much attention to different lines, I just saw nice looking Marvel figures and bought them. 2017 was when I finally started collecting Marvel Legends and ever since then I've only picked up the occasional Select figure that can fit into that display, shuffling the rest off to another shelf or into boxes until I find somewhere for them. Sure Select figures are more limited in places and have drawbacks that haven't changed in almost 20 years, but it's undeniable that there's a real sense of artistry to them that Hasbro figures lack, just solid paint shading throughout most of their figures, and generally they look better. I just got the Marvel Legends Angel and the Marvel Select Crimson Dynamo a few days ago, both I like well enough but that Crimson Dynamo has remained on my desk for a lot longer just with how good it looks, and for the price I think you get more out of it.
Marvel Select made my favorite version of Red Hulk, easily beats out the Marvel Legends version. As for the scaling, I tend to pick up Marvel Selects for larger characters: Titanium Man, The Hulks, etc. I like more big characters larger than life, it’s good for scaling for displays and makes things look more dynamic.
The Marvel Select Fantastic Four figures are amazing. Sculpts and accessory loadout are unbelievable for the price point. I don't normally get this scale either, but I made an exception for them; Mr. Fantastic in particular is hard to do as an action figure, but they nailed it (and his powers make him easier to fudge into a 1/12 display), and the sculpt on Sue Storm is easily the best that I've ever seen. Only disappointment for the time being is Thing, probably only because he's several years old now and they haven't made an update.
QotD: To be honest, the bulk of my figure purchases these days is McFarlane so its closer to 1/10 scale. Tbh Im just running out of space and dealing with having an overabundance of stuff… so Im trying to maintain that scale unless something just blows it out of the water.
This figure looks so good and comes with so much. I don't collect this scale and try not to but when a figure looks this good and is affordable I might have to support it.
I’m down with the Marvel Select figures..the 1st I purchased was the Planet Hulk, not the best articulation but damn the sculpt is next level, haven’t purchased a legend since, enjoying the taller chunkier depiction of characters Thanks for the killer review mano, fun and informative as always 🫡
Just picked him up. Decided to go for it after watching your review. I don’t buy Marvel Select but the fun factor here is over the top. I’m bought it for my 10 year old self who always wanted this kind of Cap. He was my favourite marvel character when I was a kid. I used to play with an unpainted Aurora kit figure then moved on to Mego. I love thé black shading on the mask. Are the joints a bit loose? Yes, but who cares! What is incredible is that MS tried to do so many things with this figure that Hasbro isn’t bothering to even figure out ( especially that shield rotation on the OG version- brilliant!) For me this is a toy that I am going to play with and enjoy
Marvel Select is heavent sent for us Mcfarlane collectors, my DC x Marvel display is coming together nicely. Plus the upcoming Select figures Annihilus, Warmachine, Archangel are all looking fine.
I collect this line. I like it because of the quality you get. Articulation is limited but they don't look like cheap plastic toys, at least not as much as some marvel legends.also I like that they are a little bit bigger.
I usually collect 6 inch figures but I will definitely get this figure (+ I love Cap being tall as heck so I can headcanon him into my 1/12 collection :p)
And this is only with 16 points of articulation? Selects are fairly durable and use the smaller pins that don't show that much so would like to see more figures use the double joints having better range.
Thanks for the review, it's convinced me to pick this figure up soon - I've also got Vision on the way, and I'm keeping an eye on Hulk prices on eBay. I'd love to see reviews for those two (if you can find or have received the latter) and Silver Centurion, who looks just incredible. If you have the ability to review older releases, Colossus and a re-review of Sabretooth (esp with the recent Legends release to compare/contrast) would be great, too. Fingers crossed that DST's upcoming Archangel and War Machine turn out well.
For thr QOTD, I sometimes get the McFarlane line as well as Selects like Venom and Vision. I kind of want to get this guy so he can be displayed with the non-round shield while my 20th anniversary Cap uses the more iconic one.
QotD: Sometimes. If it's a character I can justify being on the bigger side, like Spawn, then yeah, I'll usually go for it especially if the figure is legit good. Also, I recommend hunting down the Marvel Select Iceman. It was my first Select figure and I was way more impressed by it than I thought I was going to be.
Thank you for your reviews. They're so helpful in making decisions on which figures to spend my hobby funds on. I was on the fence about this one but now i think I'll pick him up.
This looks absolutely incredible! Great review! QOTD: Yeah I tend to snag things even if they aren’t what I mainly collect. Especially if they are good.
This figure really looks awesome. I didn't like it when it was revealed first, but he looks nice. Plus that shield thing they did with the plug in thing is so awesome. I wanna get my hands on this cap now
Scale, variety, and articulation are the answers to how Marvel Legends can keep being justified. However, I'm excited about this Cap and can't wait to add it to my Select shelf. I've always said... slowly but surely Marvel Select, Mafex and others will replace the core Marvel Legends characters in my collection. This will be a very handsome addition to the shelf!
I really don’t collect 7 inch figures aside from two Spawn figures I have on their own little shelf, but damn… Figures like this Cap make me want to get more. There used to be a limit on how much articulation Marvel Select figures could have, but Cap here completely breaks that rule. He has more articulation than many Marvel Legends. If Marvel Select ever decides to make an entirely new Venom with this amount of articulation and engineering, then that right there would be the perfect Venom. It could probably be fudged into other collections too, given how inconsistent his size is in the comics and other media.
Great-looking figure; definitely agree this deserved the rare ‘10’ for accessories; the rotating function of the shields is what pushes it over the edge for me. What a thoughtful feature to have. And all this at such a respectable price point
Should have mentioned the other toy company that produces a 7 inch scale line on almost the same cost with no effort on accessories but rather comes with a special card holder lol
McFarlane has it's goods and worst if you want best of McFarlane check their violater figure or the new doomsday vs Superman figure, or check their monolith figure you will know difference for me McFarlane, neca and diamond select is best line because this is what I can afford
The way they did Cap’a cowl and how calm they made his face makes him look so… cute? I guess? Shit this figure made me a Cap simp. Def ordering this when I get the chance
I collect selects only, but trha because of value for dollar, typically unique sculpts, actual paint jobs and tons of accessories. This cap and the WW2 Hydra diorama cap are great. The only issue is some weird articulation cuts and the lack of articulation compared to some lines
I REALLY wish diamond select were 6 inch scale. And unfortunately Legends will always be the main line simply for the fact that they release a wider variety of characters then any other company will ever make, so they're always gonna be part of the display.
I would love to buy a Marvel Select, but the scale kills it for me. The only 7inch figures I have are NECA Xenomorphs and it works because they`re aliens, but having a Captain America that towers over a figuarts Venom just aint gonna fly. Edit: Nevertheless you`re 100% right when it comes to Hasbro cutting corners, I did not even think about their Square knee issue until you just brought it up. The sculpt on this Cap looks great and it goes to show how much more room Hasbro has for improvement.
This figure looks amazing and your review makes me want it even more. Hasboro should be ashamed and crying in a bathroom stall somewhere. The price point , beautiful. Accessories abundant. Detail, crisp. It feels like 5 or 6 diff figures once you start changing things around. I think this figure can work among Marvel Legends. He needs to take up more horizontal space than vertical. If you hunch his pose a bit, open up the legs and push him more towards the back and have the smaller scales at the forefront he'll blend in. Have some figures in flight near him to play with the optics.
The aesthetic aspect of joints is a topic rarely addressed. If DST can achieve it for a licensed figure priced at $30, I don't understand why other companies don't follow suit. I'd prefer joints like those on this figure, even if it means paying a few extra dollars, rather than having the poorly designed joints seen on figures from Hasbro, McFarlane, Premium DNA, Super7, or Mezco One12.
I got the crimson dynamo figure just the other day and he’s fantastic. I might have to go back to the comic store and grab this guy too even though I only collect iron man related stuff from marvel select. It seems they’ve been really upping their game lately. I was impressed with the silver centurion iron man and titanium man. If they did a whole avengers lineup of this quality I’d totally get it even though I typically only collect marvel legends.
legends are still in business because of the insane roster of characters and great scaling between all of them which allows team builidng, unfortunately other companies struggle with scaling and just don't have enough characters to complete a single team.
I just got 3 of these figures today! I’m gonna modify one to see if I can scale it down to marvel legends size. And on another I’m gonna try to put McFarland Superman legs on him to give them more bulk.
I also cherry pick the select stuff and have been quite pleased lately. Titanium Man was awesome and I just got Crimson Dynamo in last week. Very well done. I sincerely hope Hasbro moving a bit away from their standard wave formulas AND the brand leadership shake up will ultimately help them to pick up the ball again. I know they can do it. Especially when you look at the Joes line! I know budgets and licensing stuff gets in the way but damn!
I had gotten the silver centurion iron man from MS, and he is my favorite iron man figure. Don't matter that he is a little tall he still looks awesome. Feeling same about this cap
That Silver Centurion is easily the best domestic Ironman figure in the 1/12-1/10th scale range, especially for it's retail price. I'm hoping they visit some more of his classic armors. I love that figure, possibly my 2nd or 3rd all time favorite comic book Ironman figure.
You missed the best part: you can snap out the shield straps so Cap can sling the shield onto his harness. This figure is way so much better than the Disney Store Captain America a decade back.
I usually collect MS only for bigger characters like Juggernaut, Uatu, Anti-Venom, Thanos or Abomination, but I also have MS Human-Torch, best Johnny Storm excluding Mafex and fly stand helps to not notice size difference with smaller Fantastic Four. Can't wait for their Annihilus and hope they will release Blob one day, because hasbro's last one is meh, and the first one is too expensive.
I feel the same way about Diamond Select..they make great LARGER figures.. but I will buy ONLY the ones that I can fit in my Marvel Legends collection That being said..Im a Captain America fan in general & I might pick this up just to have it.. Anyways keep up the great work brother..I'm always looking forward to your Marvel Legends reviews 👑
Maybe 1:10 (aka 7") is going to take over. Maybe not yet, but here's a LOT of fantastic figures and lines in that scale right now and more seem to be coming. First off, all the Chinese companies seem to operate in that scale. Xesray (Gladiators), Maestro Union (Furay Planet), all the companies doing 3rd party Warcraft stuff, etc. There's Four Horsemen with Mythic Legions and now Cosmic Legions. Mattel is pushing ahead with their Masterverse line, and they're actually great bang for your buck. NECA too. And McF keeps growing, even with all the issues that line has; people just can't get enough of Todd's tablescraps. Obviously 1:12/6" won't die out, since companies like Jada, Valaverse and a few others are pushing hard on that front, and let's face it, even Hasbro is still doing well with Classified. But I feel like this scale has definitely been losing steam.
Depending on how good the figure looks, I don’t mind mixing and matching. I have the Marvel Select Hulk and Vision in my display with Legends. Cap being a main character, I’d prefer 1/12 scale. If he were a little shorter I’d be all over him but I’ll wait for Mafex Cap. That’s said, the figure is absolutely beautiful. Obviously some care was put into this 0:45-0:53 I ask myself that question every time I see people on Reddit gushing over a McFarlane figure 😂
I think DST says they get their promo pics from really hard to pose prototypes and that's why they look kinda bad 😬 Yeah, if I think a figure looks really cool, is cheap enough and comes with decent stuff I'll try to get it. I really like this Cap, hope I can find one here in Mexico. Glad to see DST is still sending you stuff, some of their latest figures are great and your objective reviews will definitely help them sell more. Jada and DST have been releasing a lot of cool figures and deserve more attention.
I have collected Selects for years. I noticed the change when Hasbro first took over from Toybiz. Marvel Select with their great, original sculpts and bases at the time were better value for money for me.
Almost any company who does marvel besides Hasbro does a great job. The thing that kills me with Hasbro is how well they make GIJoe vs how poorly they make Marvel Legends. If they put in as much effort with ML as GIJoe they would have a 10/10 figure line
YES! I’ve been wanting so badly for you to review some more DST figures. They’re not perfect but they’re way better value than what Hasbro is giving us for sure.
Marvel select does great work. Really awesome figure and at thirty , a better deal than mcfarlanes cash grab collector figures. I preordered the most recent line and it’s always one figure that looks to have taken all the extra budget and accessories are never evenly spread. This is a great cap.
This is actually a really great figure that surprised me when I got it in hand because Diamond's promo shots sucked! The display options & accessories that Diamond's been including on so many of their offerings lately for the 29.99 price point is unbeatable imo. I generally only collect in 1:12 scale but I did get the Select Juggernaut a couple years ago since it scales well with Legends. Last year I got the Select Vision which also impressed me & now just got Cap, mostly for that awesomely designed shield he comes with. My buddy gave me the Select Deadpool a few years ago for my bday so that was my 1st Select, but that figure is just a piece of garbage imo. And I swapped shields with my 20th Cap & it works great, the shields are actually the same size & the Legends one clips on the Selects wrist perfectly & actually looks bigger when you display them side by side. I also prefer the belt accessory & shoulder straps for displaying the Select Cap, really looks great!
He looks a lot better in reviews and photos than in the promo pics. The way the shields work is brilliant.

I'll be reviewing him soon
I’m down with the Marvel Select figures..the 1st I purchased was the Planet Hulk, not the best articulation but damn the sculpt is next level, haven’t purchased a legend since, enjoying the taller chunkier depiction of characters
Thanks for the killer review mano, fun and informative as always 🫡
I feel I can buy this for the shields alone... It's a damn great figure.
I usually collect 6 inch figures but I will definitely get this figure (+ I love Cap being tall as heck so I can headcanon him into my 1/12 collection :p)
wow, i'm a kid again. yes, this is the best cap figure ever.
I bought this figure based on your review. I wasn’t going to purchase this figure due to the scale, but your review sold me on it!
Nice. How do you like it?
QotD: Sometimes. If it's a character I can justify being on the bigger side, like Spawn, then yeah, I'll usually go for it especially if the figure is legit good.
Also, I recommend hunting down the Marvel Select Iceman. It was my first Select figure and I was way more impressed by it than I thought I was going to be.
I have it to review already. Soon
Thank you for your reviews. They're so helpful in making decisions on which figures to spend my hobby funds on. I was on the fence about this one but now i think I'll pick him up.
happy to help
This looks absolutely incredible! Great review!
QOTD: Yeah I tend to snag things even if they aren’t what I mainly collect. Especially if they are good.
This figure really looks awesome. I didn't like it when it was revealed first, but he looks nice. Plus that shield thing they did with the plug in thing is so awesome. I wanna get my hands on this cap now
Using his pointing hand to point stuff out was hilarious ngl
They just keep coming out with HEAT! I pre ordered the select War Machine and Archangel too. I expect those both to be hits as well.
I love the aesthetic! Great sculpt! Great price point too! Alot of options on the look! MS been killing it !
I agree wholeheartedly with this review. I bought 3 Caps!
First time buying a figure specifically based on your review. Appreciate the content.
Enjoy
Great-looking figure; definitely agree this deserved the rare ‘10’ for accessories; the rotating function of the shields is what pushes it over the edge for me. What a thoughtful feature to have. And all this at such a respectable price point
Should have mentioned the other toy company that produces a 7 inch scale line on almost the same cost with no effort on accessories but rather comes with a special card holder lol
He did he said briefly that they make terrible figures.
McFarlane is 🚮
At the very least Mcfarlane has lower price like under 25$ but i saw an infrcted batman repaiht variant for 30$ so there s also that.
@@tonileo9849 that has been their modus, reuse and repainting and label it with whatever exclusive on a premium box lol
McFarlane has it's goods and worst if you want best of McFarlane check their violater figure or the new doomsday vs Superman figure, or check their monolith figure you will know difference for me McFarlane, neca and diamond select is best line because this is what I can afford
Wow!!!😁impressive!
Almost classic as it should be!👏👏👏👏🎉
First figure with better articulation ever!😄
The way they did Cap’a cowl and how calm they made his face makes him look so… cute? I guess? Shit this figure made me a Cap simp. Def ordering this when I get the chance
I collect selects only, but trha because of value for dollar, typically unique sculpts, actual paint jobs and tons of accessories. This cap and the WW2 Hydra diorama cap are great. The only issue is some weird articulation cuts and the lack of articulation compared to some lines
Wow the most positive review ive seen in a while hell ya
The only marvel selects I get is the hulks. The hulks scale well with marvel legends.
I REALLY wish diamond select were 6 inch scale. And unfortunately Legends will always be the main line simply for the fact that they release a wider variety of characters then any other company will ever make, so they're always gonna be part of the display.
Great Figure. Love Marvel Select !!!
Thanks for the review.
Take a shot every time Anthony says hasbro lmao😂 great review! Might have to get this now
This is how it's done. People need to stop defending Marvel legends when toys like these and Jada Toys exist.
Hasbruh fans care only about pinless joints, so even if knees and elbows look awful, it's absolutely fine by them if there are no pins lol.
Seems to be true
reminds me alot of the toybiz series 1 cap, which is still my fav cap.
I appreciate how the knee and elbow joints aren't hideous.
I thought that was obvious with the hole in his back straps. I guess i should have mentioned it
I usually collect MS only for bigger characters like Juggernaut, Uatu, Anti-Venom, Thanos or Abomination, but I also have MS Human-Torch, best Johnny Storm excluding Mafex and fly stand helps to not notice size difference with smaller Fantastic Four. Can't wait for their Annihilus and hope they will release Blob one day, because hasbro's last one is meh, and the first one is too expensive.
I feel the same way about Diamond Select..they make great LARGER figures.. but I will buy ONLY the ones that I can fit in my Marvel Legends collection
That being said..Im a Captain America fan in general & I might pick this up just to have it..
Anyways keep up the great work brother..I'm always looking forward to your Marvel Legends reviews 👑
A good looking classic Captain America with a proper amount of accessories and hands, Hasbro will never give us that, ever
I usually only get the select figures of the larger characters, Red Hulk being the best example, to put next to my Legends ones.
Been wanting a good Cap figure for a while. This one looks amazing.
1:12 I could just tell from the thumbnail this was going to be a good one ☝️
The best cap ever! Just got two.
11:56 I think I remember hearing that diamond select was an subsidiary of toybiz wjth a lot of sculptors on toybiz worked on diamond select
interesting. never heard that before
Depending on how good the figure looks, I don’t mind mixing and matching. I have the Marvel Select Hulk and Vision in my display with Legends. Cap being a main character, I’d prefer 1/12 scale. If he were a little shorter I’d be all over him but I’ll wait for Mafex Cap. That’s said, the figure is absolutely beautiful. Obviously some care was put into this
0:45-0:53
I ask myself that question every time I see people on Reddit gushing over a McFarlane figure 😂
I think DST says they get their promo pics from really hard to pose prototypes and that's why they look kinda bad 😬
Yeah, if I think a figure looks really cool, is cheap enough and comes with decent stuff I'll try to get it.
I really like this Cap, hope I can find one here in Mexico.
Glad to see DST is still sending you stuff, some of their latest figures are great and your objective reviews will definitely help them sell more.
Jada and DST have been releasing a lot of cool figures and deserve more attention.
Apparently the straps on the shields can be removed to place the shield on the harness.
Yes
I have collected Selects for years. I noticed the change when Hasbro first took over from Toybiz. Marvel Select with their great, original sculpts and bases at the time were better value for money for me.
This might be the best Cap until MAFEX
Almost any company who does marvel besides Hasbro does a great job. The thing that kills me with Hasbro is how well they make GIJoe vs how poorly they make Marvel Legends. If they put in as much effort with ML as GIJoe they would have a 10/10 figure line
YES! I’ve been wanting so badly for you to review some more DST figures.
They’re not perfect but they’re way better value than what Hasbro is giving us for sure.
For super sure
This deserves more hype
Their upcoming archangel looks fantastic as well!
