Yeah, it's true, oddly. At the beginning of the climax between Sonic and Robotnik, he does in fact say something that amounts to "Running like that is bad for your joints. IT'S BEEN PROVEN!!!" It really does seem like a direct reference to this video. Amused the heck out of me, talk about a deep-dive reference. I mean it doesn't accurately describe the take-home, here, but I think it's as accurate as you can get without ruining the joke.

It needs to be said that Sonic does have a superhuman physique. Not just speed but also STRENGTH AND DURABILITY.
You need super Human strength and durability to use super speed. As shown in the boys. Guys like flash should be almost as strong as superman. If he can run at ftl+ speed
Yeah he literally destroys metal robots by slamming into them with his body... He's clearly extremely durable.
Not to mention the many times throughout the series (especially Sonic Unleashed and Frontiers) where he falls from space and survives the landing without a scratch.
@@lasercraft32I agree. Sonic is not human so we can’t really tell how strong his bones would need to be to shatter. We also don’t know his anatomy. My (game) theory is that sonic was created by the chaos emeralds themselves and that’s where all of the energy he has comes from, it also explains why sonic can use super sonic more often than other characters the emeralds call to him, it also helps explain the lack of parents or siblings in the main timeline (I know he has parents and siblings in the comics and sonic underground but those don’t count)

What about super sonic??
After watching your work now for the past few days (I'm new)...I can honestly say you have the best channel on RUclips. Not only are your episodes funny and highly entertaining but the educational merits are what really makes this channel a cut above the rest. I work in academia and I know first hand that it's not easy teaching groups of people new concepts. This is especially true when it comes to math, the bane of my existence. You my friend have a gift and I'm proud to share this channel with everyone I know.
Addendum- I'm a huge Sonic The Hedgehog fan that started playing at the very beginning in 1991. Nothing you said in this video was offensive too my 16-bit sensibilities. Even if you had, we're talking about video games here and it's all in good fun. Everyone needs to take a chill pill.
I always find it hilarious how he uses real world logic as if Sonic isn't an anthropomorphic blue hedgehog with windshield-shaped eyes who can run at extreme speeds so fast he leaves a trail of blue light behind him and rotates his legs in a circular figure-eight pattern when running. :)
And that's only scratching the surface of how unrealistic Sonic is.

In the games they allow you to take a hit without dying, and in the cartoon and comics they were responsible for him getting a speed boost, wouldn’t be too far of a stretch if they also made him more resilient.

Looking closely at the game footage Sonic is not transferring all of that force into just his legs. He bends at the waist, putting energy into his core muscles to allow him to rapidly accelerate in the opposite direction. In addition, he shifts his arms, changing his center of gravity and allowing gravity to counter some of the forces. While doing all of that, he is also using his inertia to turn as he slows down, further shifting the forces. He then uses the remaining redirected inertial energy in combination with the energy stored in his muscles and the force of gravity to begin his running in the opposite direction. All of this means that, as a first order approximation your calculations make sense but the reality is counterintuitive and those calculations don't reflect the proper spherical cow.

Well taking Sonic 2's speed into consideration, his velocity is just under 3x the velocity in free fall (aka gravity) for 3 seconds. This meaning that if you were to fall on your face onto the ground for a little less than 3 whole seconds, that would be the same as if Sonic 2 ran into a wall.

What this Episode threw me onto was the question of whether gravity would have any sort of impact on both the speed of Sonic or his shattering bones o_O?

Third option is always the fact that Sonic has some level of super durability. I mean heck, that hedgehog has survived A LOT WORSE than "stopping." Going through walls, explosions at point blanc, rammed robots... I'm not a huge sonic fan so I can only give those examples.

Yeah, there are a lot of things that don't make sense in the "real world." I mean, it is a different universe/multiverse. I mean, the planet isn't even called Earth, it's Mobius.
