  • Often such a hot topic. How much to feed? What food? What about the season? What about the size of my koi? How often do I feed? What about treats for my koi? Protein %? In this video I share my approach to feeding my pond based on 20 years of experience.

All I ever feed my fish is freshly scooped up dog and cat shit. They absolutely devour it down & double in size every 3 months. The $$ I save is astronomical & the koi look and feel great. It really builds ammunities & enhances color as well. It's also great for the environment. Sometimes as a special treat I drop a nice loaf in there myself during a morning swim, needless to say they sure do follow me around closely everytime I go skinnydipping...💩

This video was 100% opposite of boring. :-)
I have watched many videos on Koi and on other Fish, this is my biggest hobby.
I have been in the Fish Keeping Hobby since the age of Five and I will be Thirty-Seven in December, and I still enjoy learning more about Fish and keeping them, I think it is very Therapeutic.
However, I shall return back to the main point, I have watched this video many times, and even tho this is the First time I am commenting on it at least from what I can remember, I still want to say, that I think you did an outstanding job of this educational Koi feeding video.
I have come to conclude that here in Scotland with the fact that the temperature drops bellow Zero Degrees Celsius the Hikari Wheat-Germ is the most suitable food to use all year round.
Do not get me wrong I could also use Hikari Koi Gold or Shogun in the warmer season.
Thank you very much for sharing this Awesome information Sir.
    Take care and stay safe.

Any problem with feeding my pond fish wet and dry dog food? Is a 5,000 gallon Pond full of bugs and other things for them to eat. I just supplement with dog food. The koi are still young. 3 to 6 inches. The Goldfish range from babies to adults.
Dirt bottom pond. No filtration. The water just overflows out when it rains heavy.

Pretty sure fish based is best and they put a lot of crap on cat and dog food . I wouldn't even feed mine it if it weren't for the fact she starves her self.

I've tried it a few years back both the wheat germ and the growth - my feeling was that if produced too much waste for the price. Water became mucky very easily. Used it for about 6 months then dropped it

They normally flash at feeding time when eating or when I switch the pumps off as the bottom drains are not pumping air. I do scrapes and microscope to check for parasites often.
