Every time I rewatch this movie I’m more and more convinced that Marisa deserved the Oscar. She’s legitimately great. Comedy actors don’t get nearly enough respect or credit at the Oscars, which is a big part of why people were questioning whether she deserved it, but she killed it. 9 times out of 10, when most actors try to do stand up comedy they absolutely bomb. They get so much fake love and think it’s just “talking”. His plan was to go on stage for the first time ever in his life as far as comedy and he also dressed up and went on stage 3 different times as 3 different characters….needless to say, he died on the stage that night 😬
Some of the best performances in movie history were comedians playing dramatic roles. I know of zero dramatic actors who crossed over and did great comedy, other than playing the straight man characters to support the comedian.
No judge anywhere would have tolerated behaviour, dress, or language like that. It was a very accurately depicted performance. It was also Fred Gwayne's last role before he died. Quite a brilliant actor.

He got stereotyped into somewhat goofy characters because of Herman Munster (and even before that, car 54 where are you). It was so much the case that he assumed they wanted him to ham up like Herman for this role. He was apparently very happy to hear the director wanted him to play it totally straight.

Law professors sometimes use My Cousin Vinny in their classes to show proper courtroom procedure, including how to impeach a witness and how to qualify an expert witness. La Guardia airport was named after Fiorello La Guardia, mayor of NYC from 1935 through 1945. Vinny's middle name probably came from the mayor, not the airport. When Marisa Tomei won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, there were rumors that the Academy had made a mistake, and that the award was supposed to go to one of the other nominees. This was terribly unfair to Tomei. As we now know, if they make a mistake and give an award to the wrong party, they correct the error immediately. Tomei's performance really was award-worthy. And as any actor will tell you, comedy is harder than drama.

Yes, “Son of Sam” was a real case involving a real serial killer. I remember an older guy I used to work with in New York told me about how scared he was to be alone outside while the killings were in the papers.
The reason I always figured that the Judge took a disliking to Vinny was because of the fact that he had his feet up on the Judge's desk...a highly disrespectful thing to do. But I also always figured that the Judge was just applying the rules to Vinny the same as he did everyone else...that he might have made his dislike of Vinny clear, but that him being a hardass about the rules was just him being the way that he was with everyone all the time.
He seemed like a no nonsense judge that, the more you watch, the more you realize that he would've been this way with any other new lawyer that comes into his court.
@@chipwhitley6509 I agree that he would have insisted on the same rules, but almost no other "new" lawyer would be as bad at understanding and following those rules as Vinny was. I love this movie. There's no real bad guy in this movie (except if you consider the real murderers) and once the innocence of Bill and Stan becomes clear, all charges are dropped. Most law enforcement and prosecutors are not corrupt. Fun Fact: When Vinny is trying to explain his "real name" to Judge Haller, he knocks over the judge's chess board. This was accidental but director Jonathan Lynn thought it was so funny and authentic he decided to leave it in the film. Language Barrier Fact: The misunderstanding between Vincent Gambini and Judge Haller regarding the two "youts" was in fact a real conversation between Joe Pesci and director Jonathan Lynn. Lynn, who is British, at first had a hard time understanding Pesci's pronounced New York accent. He decided that the routine was quite funny and put it in the film. True Crime Fact: Director Jonathan Lynn actually has a law degree and insisted the film's legal proceedings be realistic. In fact, many attorneys and law professors have praised the film for its accurate depiction of trial strategy and courtroom procedure, especially with regards to presenting expert witnesses at trial. In fact, the film has been screened at some law schools to illustrate courtroom procedures.
The chess set noise also adds authenticity to the Gallow/Callow "mixup." Because he was saying the name when the noise happened it seems more likely the Judge could believe he'd just misheard.

I absolutely LOVE this movie for a few reasons. First of all I took auto shop as my major in high school. Years later I used to work on cars. I ALSO worked several my friends mechanic business. He had a 24-hour repair service, we also had a contract for a diesel trucking company. I'd spent a few yrs on & off working on 18 wheeler repairs. At one time I was a NYS Safety and Emissions Inspector. I WAS ALSO certified BY EUCLID for heavy duty brakes and suspension repair. The 18 wheeler tires are pretty big but I learned from him how to pull them off. A lotta people were surprised that I did truck repair because I ONLY STAND AT 4 FEET 10 INCHES TALL! I LITERALLY don't have to bend over too much in order to actually get myself UNDER an 18 wheelers truck frame! 😂 I just kind of been down a little bit with my knees and I CAN pretty much just scrunch myself down so I can crawl under. I can kinda just sit Indian style and just tilt my head a little bit while I'm under there. Also when it comes to the top of the engine, I approach it a little differently than the guys do. They end up standing on the front leaning over and have to move around a little bit more to get to each side. I CAN'T reach the same way by standing on the bumper. SO I HAVE TO actually have to pretty much LAY ON TOP of the engine in order to work. The guys can usually reach deeper into the engine~but I can get into the tighter spots because my forearms aren't as big as theirs are. LOL 😂 I Also love this movie because when I went back to college in my MID 40's I took Paralegal as my major. I had to stop due to the coming disabled. But my intention was to go to John Jay college and become either a defense or a human rights attorney. I've always been interested in the law. I'm an international prisoner and human rights advocate for 38 years. I DEAL WITH every level of the legal system~from my juveys TO my people on Death Row.
I always look forward to your reactions and I loved seeing your Momma and her commentary as well! Great reaction. Also I love the actor who played the public defender! Die laughing every time I watch that scene! 🤣🤣🤣

I liked how he didn’t do his normal intro in front of his mom 😂😂
Yes the mell & mom reactions are back😁😁
😉❤️
I love your mom. She's fun. Yes, I would like very much to see more of your mom.
Marisa Tomei deserved her Oscar.
Yes, she absolutely deserved the Oscar. 🤗
You two are awesome. I saw your reaction to Schindler's List last night. You are a lot smarter than I was at 25. It really spoke well about you and your character! I was appalled that the education system didn't teach you about the Holocaust. If I'm wrong, feel free to correct me!
Ya moms is a trip. Very insightful reaction. Definitely need more of her for reactions.
Marisa Tomei definitely deserved the award
Absolutely she deserved it
Yay you’re watching my favorite comedy! Much love to you and your Mom♥️🥰✨
Being from Alabama, this is one of my favorite movies. Also, your mom is adorable!! MORE MOM!!!
❤️😘
This is known, from lawyers, as one of the most accurate movie cases ever made
He's sleeping peaceful cause it probably sounds like his own neighborhood. LOL.
Love watching your Mum's reactions. She reminds me of my Mum.
Much respect
This was not Marisa's first role. She was on the first season of A Different World a few years before. Plus other independent situations.
Now you have to watch The Karate Kid!😁 I had a huge crush on him too.
the most shocking thing about this is that Ralph Macchio was actually in his 30s, married with children playing a what? 18 yr old college freshman.
First time watching your channel. My Cousin Vinny is probably a little underrated, but is definitely a popular movie. Great ending. And loved how your mom took you by surprise in the beginning. She appears to be quite a character. Keep up the good work.
Wait -- you haven't seen Karate Kid? Dude !!
Not the Addams Family. He was the dad in the Munsters
And Pet Semetary! (Well, the original anyway.)
On TV in 1962, Fred Gwynne as "Officer Francis Muldoon" of "Car 54 Where Are You?": ruclips.net/video/PWg58QfpCbo/видео.html
Most certainly an underrated movie, one of the best written comedies ever made. The actors and characters are all so great, and Vinny and Lisa have the most incredible complimentary dynamic with her book smarts and his street smarts. Fun fact: this movie is shown to law school students because it's incredibly accurate in how it depicts what happens in a courtroom.
How is it underrated?? Everyone loves this movie and Marisa Tomei won an Oscar for it. I swear people don't even understand what underrated is anymore!
@@sammybear7100 Have you ever heard this movie mentioned in a conversation about best comedies ever made? Awards don't mean a thing, nobody remembers who won an Oscar 30 years ago, and hardly anybody born after this came out even knows about it. If under appreciated sounds better to you than underrated, fine, I'll give it to you.
@@drasticbread249 I hear this movie mentioned everytime someone brings up the funniest movies ever. If anything it's overrated to me!
@@sammybear7100 If by that you mean that it's your own voice you hear mentioning it, then I believe you.
@@drasticbread249 Uh no people talk about this movie all the goddamn time when discussing classic comedies. Hang out with people older than 17 and do even the smallest amount of googling and you'll see it on numerous "best of all time" lists. 'Underappreciated' certainly isn't the right word either. Get over yourself.
Hey, Ma! I wish I talk to Mama, my sister and my two sons. It's been a lonely couple of years out here. I know it's been hard for a lot of folk.
Your reactions, that I just subscribed to, keep me going. Thank you and good health to you and your family.
We need to wrap Joe Pesci up in some bubble wrap asap! He's such a gem! This was my favorite movie to watch with my dad as a kid ♥️
should have done that a long time ago, they could have kept him in the same kind of tupperware as marisa tomei
He has a few albums. The first one is Little Joe Sure Can Sing. But the one I get a kick out of is Vincent LaGuardia Gambini Sings Just For You. That one has the song Take Your Love and Shove It. You can find it on RUclips.
This is my favorite movie. I'm so glad ya'll reacted to it!
Yes! Marisa won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. And she absolutely deserved that Oscar.
Definitely one of my favorites, Marisa Tomei was great her and Pesci had amazing chemistry. You need to watch The Karate Kid!!!! It's so good, but I'm from the 80s it's very nostalgic to me, but all 3 are good, and Kobra Kai is a fantastic show too!
Love this movie and loved the react! My first time seeing mom and she's great!
Yes, you are correct, in a ‘strange’ twist, somehow, not only was Marisa Tomei nominated for the Oscar, for this performance, she actually won!
Gene Wilder: "Boy, are they strict"
The judge played by Fred Gwynne starred in the Munsters not the Adams family , Ted Cassidy played Lurch on the Adams family
I have seen this 4X and it is still hilarious, watching it with you was fun. have fun on your movie journey, there are so many good ones out there. Watch, The Gun in Betty Lou's Handbag. it's another comedy like this one.
YOU HAVE TO WATCH KARATE KID!!! ALL OF THEM!! PLEASE!!! 😱🤭😳💯💯❤️

This was a treat to watch. You and your mom cracking up was cracking me up, lol. And this movie's a classic of mine. :)
Your mom is so fun. I hope she makes future appearances. 🥰
the two boys on the square got their role just because they were there.
they were riding bikes and the film company asked them if they wanted to be in a movie
I love you mom's judgmental face!
😘
Love having your mom here man. Should do more with her
I love your mom! She’s great during this reaction. Should feature her more often on here.
Love your channel. It is always a pleasure to watch your reactions. But this one made me laugh so much. Your mother added a lot to the experience. Classy, intelligent AND funny lady. Please more with her. All best from the land where people eat bratwurst and sauerkraut for breakfast and have a hard time deciding if to start the day with coffee or a beer. Please continue to entertain us so well. Greetings to your mother.
☺️ Thank you so much 🥰
He is sleeping peacefully during the riot because as a New Yorker he is used to that kind of noise at night, obviously 😁
