I had a Technics turntable back in the day. Superior product so I bought the Technics 70 and Panasonic version last year. Spot on, they nail the sound. I have tried dozens of buds none match the crisp clear tight sound of the Technics. Not surprised. Technics and Panasonic were the gold standard in the 60's 70's. Their headphones were considered best in class. Yes Technics is the Lexus Infinity brand of Panasonic
Thank you for telling me that the 60 is the newest to come out, that is confusing. There are three things I look for that is longevity in use, noise cancelation, music sound...I can't wait to listen to a beautiful sounding violin.
I got the AZ 40 yesterday. Good god. I have never herd wireless earbuds sound like that. The bass is deep and rich, but tight like you said. The clarity is unreal. I've tried Jaybird Vista 2, Sony WF-1000Xm4, Sound core liberty 3 pros, Bose sound sport wireless,And the Jabra elite 85T and elite 7 pro. nothing sounds as good as the AZ 40.
@@manoz6194 Physical buttons are The best, but these touch controls aren’t bad. You have to tap them in order to get them to do anything, and they don’t register false touches.

Thanks you for your honesty review I tried so many earbuds. So just weeks ago I got the Technics AZ60 like you they blown me away. Amazing sounds and noise cancelling.
Panasonic/Technics has always been amazing when it comes to audio quality. I have Panasonic MASH CD players from the 90's that sound amazing. I have the Panasonic RZ-S500 and the Technics AZ70 earbuds. They're both really good for me. Audio quality is very good and call quality is great. Can't wait to see how these AZ60 perform when I get em. Just waiting on the black color to become available.
Hey super late reply (and question): I'm coming from the Panasonic RZ-S500 (love them) which are failing now after over two yrs of use. I'd be interested how you'd compare the Panas to the AZ70 and AZ60, as I can't decide between the two. Panasonics are discontinued with no high end successor in sight.
Great review. I'm always keen to hear people not say everything is great about something, especially when they've tried so many others (particularly wired earphones in this case). I'm going from no ANC earphones previously to these, and sound has always taken precedence over everything else for me (that's kind of the point, right?), so it'll seem like a world of difference to me. This looks like something I'm going to be really happy with :) Thanks for the great work!
Update: I got these and they blow my wired in-ears (SoundMagic E80s) out of the water for sound - more low-end detail, emphasis on detail... Tight and punchy, no muddy low end at all. Very happy with these! Every other feature is an added bonus.
And the best thing about these, which wasn't even mentioned - the microphones. For the new normal of Zoom and Teams meetings, these absolutely kill. Noisy office, no problem. Outdoors with a breeze going on, they've still got you. And the multi-point bluetooth is also fantastic. I'll be listening to something on my laptop and a call comes in on my phone, the music pauses and it switches to my phone. Tap to answer, no hassle at all, and when you're done, the music picks up where you left off (assuming it's that sort of source - maybe live stuff just mutes. I haven't tried it.) So yeah - that was my use case. My previous office headphones were full-sized, Sony WH-1000XM4 cans, but being a bit of a hassle to carry back and forth, they got left in the office 99% of the time. And then a tidy-up mysteriously relocated them, so these were the replacement - my thinking was that I could easily stuff them in a pocket rather than leave moderately expensive headphones in the office. Earbuds would be a compromise, I thought, on the sound but really it's not so much that it makes any kind of a difference. The compromise might be on the lifespan - when the batteries die, and they certainly will, the chances are these just go in the trash. I don't think there's a big market in repairing TW earbuds, which grates on my eco-conscience a smidge.
From my experience it is fantastic. Great at handling moderate ambient noise and wind. In really loud environments, every microphone will have an issue, but the 8 microphone array seems to make the best of a bad job when it has to. My spec sheet when choosing earbuds was #1 Office audio (Teams, Zoom and phone calls) #2 portability and #3 music reproduction in last place as a nice-to-have. It was good to find earbuds that weren't a compromise on any one of those.
According to Sound Guys' technical ( and my own ears), these AZ60 earbuds should block out more noise at lower frequencies if they have the same capability as the Panasonic s500w earbuds. From their data, these earbuds should block more noise frequency at around 150-200 HZ. These are where the airplane cabin noise peaks. Fan noise peaks at higher frequencies - usually around 700- 1000 HZ. So I can see different opinions from people.
I'm really considering the az60.It seems to have all the bells and whistles in a earbud, especially when you talk about it's sound signature. For that matter I've been researching the Status Audio Between Pros.People are giving it great reviews for it's sound with it's triple driver design! I would love if you can get your hands on the between pro's and do a comparison I terms of sound,I guess that's my biggest concern.Im debating on these two so your opinion would be greatly appreciated and also the Technics needs more comparisons!
I’ll probably get the Status and check it out. I’ve seen some mixed reviews on it. It is also missing ANC, but if the passive noise isolation is good enough, then ANC is not as important. Definitely curious to hear how the triple drivers sound.
Thanks for the no bullshit audiophile approach to this review! I myself is currently running a pair of Fiio FH3 through the Fiio BTR5 after a failed attempt at the Cambridge Audio Melomania 1 TWS and love the sound I'm getting, but hate the cables and the fact that I still need to charge the BTR5. Right now it's between these Technics and the Sony but may I please ask which particular model of Sony you are referring to throughout your review? the new XM4 or the elderly XM3?
How is the sound quality compaired to Sennheiser momentumtrue wireless 2, Technics AZ40 and AZ70? I have WF-1000xm3 and would like to upgrade. I want neutral, dinamic and detailed sound, controlled. My sony hiss a little and aren’t very comfortable and have an unnatural tamber, the upper midrange and highs sound unnatural, a little thin and with poor details and extension in the highs.
I haven’t worn those other buds. I do know that the az40’s have a 6mm driver versus the 8mm driver of the az60, so they *might* be a bit thinner (or less powerful) than the 60’s. I did wear the Senn CX buds. I preferred the az60, but the CX had a nice, airy sound signature. I had the 1000xm3 for a minute, but they were so painful in my ear, I didn’t spend any time with them.

nice review dude! Hit all the points I would like to mention about this pair of earbuds 1) Fit/Comfort : By playing around with the tips provided by technics, a suitable fit should be easy to find However, comfort for this pair of earbuds sucks! And I do mean it sucks, it is the caviat/Achilles heel of this earbuds. Because of the way they are shaped whereby a portion of the earbuds is elevated, the elevated portion always cuts to my ears, causing them to feel sore after around 15min-20min of use. I always have to think about whether is it worth it to use the earbuds , if it is so uncomfortable that I have to remove them after approximately 20min. For now, I still have no solution for them, even after switching to the spinfit 360 2) Sound: As mentioned in the review, it works best for people looking for clean mids. Compared to the AZ70, these sounds less bright but have a more natural sounding music. The app allows you to Equalize your music, but be warned that focus too much on a certain frequency range will cause further discomfort to one's ears. 3) ANC: Meh. It works for issues such as fans/ wind noise, but for people who commute on the subway, these are not ideal as even after turning the ANC all the way up, the noise the subway makes while moving + voices played during the speaker is still very noticeable and annoying. In the subway, 50% ANC and 100% ANC are almost identical as the same volume of noise still passes through. ANC works, but only if surrounding sound is not too loud, and is not thr most reliable
hi, can someone tell me if you put the Sony WF-1000XM4 at the highest "clear bass" in the Sony app, does the Technics az60 still beat it with its bass?
