The DEFINITIVE REVIEW of the Nothing Ear (2024), Ear (a), and Ear (2) Compared by an AUDIO ENGINEER
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 14 май 2024
- The New Nothing Ear (2024) and Nothing Ear (a) are the latest wireless Bluetooth Earbuds from Nothing, but how do they compare, and is it worth the upgrade from the Nothing Ear (2)? In this review, I compare their performance in audio quality, ANC, Transparency, Mic, Call Quality, and more from an audio engineer's perspective.

have u tried the improved transperacy mode from the software update(not a deal breaker just didnt see anybody talking abt it)
At 10:46, that's quite a drastic difference in ANC performance. I thought the Ear and Ear (a) are basically identical apart from battery life, LHDC 5.0 and advanced EQ. What are your thoughts on that?
is there something wrong with the ear (a) ANC at 10:48? The difference is insane and its quite bad even though they promoted it as if its the same as the ear 2024. Hmmm...
Thanks for this great comparison. It was definitely needed & much appreciated. I own many earbuds but I’ve yet to own anything from Nothing & highly interested in picking up a pair. Great work like always 💯💪👍
Hi, than-q for all of your hard work and really helpful nice to watch videos. Your knowledge is not anything i take for granted.
I wanted to ask, if you are planing on doing a review for the LG tone free t90s. They seem to be very good in almost every regard.😊
omg this was a high quality review through and through! I really appreciate whatever you did to make it so we could compare the audio quality between headsets! 10/10/10 liked!
Glad you liked it!!
I'm between the Nothing Ear and the Fiil CC Pro 2, but i can't find anything about Fiil on your chanel :c
Nice detailed video, and i agree, tuning is more important than codes. +1 sub
Thank you very much for the quality work you provide with each video !
Glad you like them!
As an ear (2) owner [and a PBP owner] I'll stand pat for now. Nothing is on an encouraging path w/ their audio products. I wish the mic quality was ~a bit clearer on my ear (2).
And i am still using my ear 1 and still satisfied even after 2 years.
I had the ear 2s briefly before returning them. My Ear 2024 arrived today, and dude, let me tell you: It is miles better than the Ear 2. I personally think the Ear 2s have terrible sound. They lack Bass and the sound is way too bright. I think its definitely worth upgrading to the new Ear.
@@H1DDENxO have you made any calls with the ears [2024] yet? How are the mics for you? Otherwise, you're probably helping my ears but definitely hurting my wallet. 🫣
@@malcontent510 Can't speak on the mic quality. On phone calls people hear me well, but I guess you want to know about calls on PC and I don't know since I use a dedicated Mic. But I'm sure you can find plenty of reviews on youtube comparing Mic quality across different Ear models.
Sound quality wise, the new Ear are amazing and I am coming from Airpods Pro 2.
@@H1DDENxO I always make calls w/ my phone on my headset. The ear (2) mics are a bit too bright - much like their sound tuning. I'll check other reviews about the ear [2024] & ear a on that; _seems_ like they improved it.
Hey man i love you for mentioning my comment about the volume drop with advanced EQ, you rock dude! It mainly affects watching videos and podcasts than music as music usually are louder.
Yup! I don't think it's a big deal, but I'll relay what I hear in my reviews.
Isn't it dropping the volume to avoid clipping? Did I miss that bit in the video?
@@pspr33 yes but they do it prematurely before you even adjust anything so if you listen to something low volume, the max volume will be a bit low
@@volthndsa2005 🤷 but that's the whole point
Superb review, thanks for that! One question: I do not like how ANC feels on any headphones or earbuds, what I get from this review is, the sound gets worse if I listen to music with ANC turned off? Thanks!
wow exactly what i needed, right when in needed it, well done!
Thank you!
Great and informative video 🔥. I have narrowed down my choice to two earbuds. Which would you say is ranking better overall between the Nothing ear 2024 and Soundcore by Anker Liberty 4
Thank you for the review awesome job you really answered a lot of questions for me. I think the overall performance of the two new earbuds is very good for the price point. I'm a One+ and JBL guy and i would be very happy with these Nothing buds. In fact I'm going to get the Nothing Ear. Thanks again much appreciated. 💯🔥🔥🇺🇸
I had heard both the Ear and the Ear (a) would offer the same ANC performance. Your tests seem to suggest a quite significant difference in the simulated café environment.
this review is the gold standard both in terms of the material as well as the presentation. Every audio review should be more like this to be frank. Great ! Thanks a lot
Wow, thanks!
As always thank you for your quality work, man. I really love your review. Its depth, but its easy to understand. And hey, its funny too!
Keep the good works my man!
Much appreciated!
Watching this and listening with my ear 2s and I can really notice the differences. AWESOME
Man.. you are great.. replying for each comment... I want to talk to my family at night when everyone else is sleeping in my room (due to the time difference) and I can't talk loud as it will disturb them. Will nothing ear a pic my voice in this case or is it better to go with Air pods pro 2. I'm an Android user and i dont want to opt to apple only because of the mic as most of the features wont work well with Android. Please help me on this....
Excellent review 👏 i definitely will grab the new nothing ear as soon they arrive my local store 😉
Thanks!
Upgrading from the Ear 2 to the Ear, I used the "More bass" simple profile on the Ear 2, but it was too much bass on the Ear for me. - Switched to Balanced, while maintaining the "bass enhanced" feature. Definitely happy with the results, personally prefer the profile more now.
Watching this like I haven't already copped and unboxed my Nothing Ears
haha, how are you liking them?
This video sounds great on my Earfun Air Pro 3's. Surprisingly to me, my codecs changed in developer options. Having APTx, Qualcomm Chip, LDAC, etc. My S24 Ultra doesn't allow me to change these settings until I connect a pair of buds that offer these codecs. My Nothing Stem came apart & you cannot glue it back without messing it up, tape works & the bud still works but it doesn't last long, 4hrs maybe w/o ANC on.
Fantastic review! I am mainly a Pixel Buds Pro user but I tried the Nothing Ear (2) last summer and was pleasantly surprised at how great the sound quality was. Really impressive. Ultimately, I ended up returning them because they felt uncomfortable with my ear shape for more than half an hour (not sure if Nothing Ear (2024) or (a) will be different fitting). Plus, I value battery life and intuitiveness/ease-of-use like swipe gestures much more than sound quality in my wireless buds so the Pixel Buds Pro check those boxes for me. When I need quality audio, I'm going to my IEMs or studio monitors since I'm a musician. But yeah, TOP NOTCH review dude! Very thorough and high quality.
Oh, yeah, they'd be a huge upgrade for sound. You should see my review on the Pixel Buds Pro to see how I really feel about them, lmao....yeah, I don't think the fit will be better for you and the PBP do have those nice ecosystem stuff going on. I just can't use them for sound as they truly hurt for me to listen to.
Thank your for the review! Listening on my ear(2). I'll admit I mostly skipped around to the music tests and liked the ear (2) for most of them but the accoustic song. Your explanation of the paper sound is spot on! Thats what was annoying me! I noticed that i dont really like listening to spoken word aside from deep voices on my ear (2).
I also learned that i will never use these for recordings again haha.
Will listen again with my beyerdynamics later.
You're welcome! Yeah, that papery sound is the timbre that makes it not sound as natural. I like how natural it sounds now. It's quite nice!
Alright, opinions still stands. Though I think I like the first funk song on the ears the best. I feel like there is a trade off with the (to me) better clarity on instruments and papery sound with words which are more like the spoken word.
Easy fix, just elevate the highs in the advanced EQ. You get all of that, better battery life, etc.
have u tried the improved transperacy mode from the software update(not a deal breaker just didnt see anybody talking abt it)?
I have sony linkbuds s, but have problem with the battery drain. today I just bought ear nothing ear(a) hehe
Will you do a comparison on the Bose qc ultra and Sony xm5s?
Hey man can you share some custom eq QR. I got them but have no idea how to tune them. Would you please share some eq please?
I really look forward to your analysis as there are not many sound engineers on RUclips who give their opinions on earbuds. Considering musicality only (with ability to customise), these or Sennheiser MTW 4 ? You opinion will make me decide my purchase decision. Thanks.
You should watch my review of the MTW4 and that’ll answer your question. 🙂
@@ThisIsTechToday Got it.
can u test n review oneplus buds 3
I have AirPods 3 they are not sealed and the music in the gym is bad!
I do not except very high quality. But I also have xm4. Should the ear(s) be good enough for a gym environment? is the anc good? the quality music?
I think the Nothing Ear presents the cleaner all natural sounding quality. I really like that!
Hi brother, can you share your advanced EQ settings for Nothing Ear??
Thank you for for this video and your answers please tell me which one has better sound quality Sennheiser momentum tws4 or Sennheiser ie100 pro wireless thank you
Have you seen my review of the MTW4?
yes I have seen the video so I need to know which has better sound quality Sennheiser ie100 pro wireless or momentum 4 tws thank you
Your opinion of the new 2024 Nothing Ear vs Sony WF-1000xm4s that i currently use? I think these look great and seem to be amazing so thinking of picking them up as another option to use
Better for sound. Not better for ANC.
The battery issues with Ear (2) were for me the main reason not upgrade my Ear (1).
The ANC and Transparency modes I think will be ajusted later on by Nothing with software updates, don't you think?
I still have my Ear (1) that as some small defects that till now I put apart but maybe I will try to upgrade it...
Thanks for your good review!
What problem are you facing with you nothing ear 1 ? Since i also have ear 1 so just want to know from you.
I absolutely I love mine and I've used the Galaxy Buds2 Pro prior, which are some of the best earbuds I've ever heard. I'm genuinely impressed.
Same here. I have the buds 2 pro to my son after the sound profile setup of the new Ear last night. Lol
Nice review!!!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Have you had a chance to rcompare and review 2024 Nothing ear to Technics AZ80 ?
You know what's fun, - I owned the Ear 2 and just swapped it out for the ear. Absolute love them, - I am having issues with dual connection on Windows PC. -- When I connect to my PC, it causes my spotify to crash, it just hangs and can't "play the music right now" . I can replicate the issue over and over. If I use the "headset" mode, it works, but sounds like a phone call, horrible for music. When I switch to earphone mode, it totally craps out my spotify app 😆 - Spotify on my phone works just fine of course. -- very fun -- love them for my phone connection though
Needed this 3 hours ago xD
Coming from airpods pro 2. Tried both ear and ear a, totally agree.
lol, I'm on USA time. What do you agree with. the video went live 4 mins ago 👀😝

Enjoyed your video with DMS ❤
Ear is definitely slightly more “wired” sounding. Not sure if its just my ear, but airpods pro 2 sounds more open and less fatiguing than Ear, might be easier for longer listening
they are more expensive as well
Only $50 more.
perfect video at right time ☺
So glad!
Hi, i have a question, do Sony xm5 or nothing ear sound better, because i currently have my airpods pro 2 and i love them but i want a very good sound quality bud so, what do you recommend, thanks!!
Check out the section on what I think about the sound quality. It should answer that for most earbuds you might consider against them.
I have the Ear(2)s but i bought the new Ear(A)s because of the battery life, i was always paranoid that the battery life would die on the 2s so 9ish hours is just right for me. Also I like the added bass, nice sound to them!
So I’m having issues with my B&O EQ’s, so I’m thinking about replacing them with the Sennheiser True wireless 4 , however….i stumbled across your channel and saw your last reviews inc the best wireless across metrics….its such a hard choice, i hate having to spend so much for in ear as they’ll never offer the quality of over-ear….but i still want them to sound nice ….im an Apple user with a 15pm, what would you do? How much would you spend?

Thanks for another excellent video
Thanks for watching!
My biggest hold up with the Nothing ear buds is whether or not they’re worth it if used with an IOS device.
I love the EQ settings but I know you can’t get access to the LDAC settings.
Wondering if the buds still stack up against the industry peers without the LDAC. Would you recommend for an IOS user?
You should seriously watch that video I did with DMS. Stop getting hung up on LDAC. It doesn’t matter.
@@ThisIsTechTodayThat is what I like to hear, I’ll give that video a watch, thanks! Great in-depth review as always. I love the simulated wind set up 🔥
Fantastic review, might just be bias as an ear(2) owner, but I prefer the audio on my ear 2's than the new ones, from all the tests it sounds like they took a step back. Listening to this on sennheiser headphones right now and the 2024 ear sounds off.
I have a similar opinion too, but I too am an ear (2) owner too 😅
Just bought Ear and am now listening to this on HD600. On every test, Ear sounds worse than ear(2). Hopefully drivers are improved (otherwise why would they release a new version with worse drivers) and I can fix whatever will bother me with the EQ.
i'm confused by the line up, can anyone tell me howany earbuds nothing actually has and the line up from the 1st gen to the latest?
No affiliate links for the new products reviewed? I am planning to get nothing ear (a)
They're in the description as stated and even in the pinned comment.
And why not the Ear(3) ?. Just curious
There is no ear 3. There’s only the nothing ear (2024)
…this naming convention sucks.
The sub base alone makes the ear a better option than both, but it also has better miss the only thing I will do when I get them is to increase the highs a little and reduce the higher mid a smidge to get a more natural and balanced sound.
Sub bass is preference. You can easily add that with the bass enhance feature. Trying to get fine tuning on the Ear (a) is a lot harder, so what you're explaining will be harder than on the Ear.
Y do i feel like "Ear 2" just seems to have an overall better sound when it comes to clarity rather than the latest "Ear"?
Is it just me or others feel the same too?
Because it has more of the high end, but in your actual ear, it might be a bit too harsh or not. It also is thinner so it seems clearer but it may not be as full since it doesn’t have as much bass. It’s a nuanced thing.
the (2)s came with that protective film too
I held up the (2). It doesn’t have it. Maybe they added it in later batches, but not early ones.
this is the only channel that I've found so far to be so in-depth on the differences between the products so I won't make a the purchase of "well this is the new version so that means I gotta buy this one"
So glad I could help! There are many products that I've reviewed that are the "new" or the "pro" version that are actually worse. People argue with me and say it couldn't be true or doesn't make sense, but it happens a lot.
can you give the playlist you use....those songs were cool
Every song is shown on the screen!
14:30 can you address why there are pieces of bacon on the earbuds during this test?
lol. For the sensors.
How would you put the nothing ear (a) vs the OnePlus buds 3? Which is a better buy. Which ones fit better in the ear?
OnePlus Buds 3 isn't on my list of earbuds that I'd use more than for the review. It's not that it's bad, but there are way better out there now.
@@ThisIsTechToday thanks for the reply. I have seen a lot of people saying the OnePlus buds 3 was the best earbuds for the $100 range but a lot of those were before the Nothing (a) came out. And I trust your opinion more lol
Thanks!
My Nothin Ear 2024 arrived today. I am coming from Airpods Pro 2 and I must say, these are AMAZING. I had previously tried the Nothing Ear 2 because everyone on youtube recommended them at the time and apparently they were tuned by a very popular audio youtuber and when I got them I was very disappointed. I thought they sounded awful and the sound was way too bright with no bass (at the time I had the normal Airpods 2nd gen, which were quite punchy).
The Nothing Ear 2024 solved all the problems I had with the Ear 2s and the sound is better and more customizable than Airpods pro 2. Oh, and it works much better on Android and Windows.
Is it worth spending much more on the Ear than the Ear (a)? I'm not an audiophile but coming from the WH-1000XM3 headphones I'm worried if the Ear quality is significantly better than Ear (a)...
As the current owner of the ear 2 I will wait for the ear 4 because the new ear 3 aka ear it’s not enough for me to upgrade
Can anyone tell me if I should go for the Oneplus pro 2 or nothing ear 2024? I'm interested in battery life, bass and call quality.

Yes. Your the only one. Lol
I get what you mean. The Ear 2 sounds more neutral than the Ear(a) and new Ear.
do you think that Ear 2024 are better sounding than AirPods Pro 2 ?
Check the section on sound quality. I think it answers that very clearly and with more detail.
I don’t see where you actually answered that. There’s a very quick “underperforms the competition” reference but no context for who.
Otherwise a great review. Ty!
15:14 I did answer that. Not everything has to be on the nose.
Wait so am I missing something? The ear came after ear(2) or...? Can someone explain?
Nothing released the "Nothing Ear (1)", then came the "Nothing Ear (2)", but they said they wanted to start with a clean slate and decide to get rid of the numbers and went with "Nothing Ear" and "Nothing Ear (a)" instead.
@@Gunnar192 I see. Thanks
Almost all save their settings to the earbuds. I have never found any earbud which won’t carry over the settings from one phone to the other.
Had Ear (2) sold and buy Ear (not 3) the main difference is punchier, snappier bass response and overall more dynamic range. Ear (2) sound good at given price but Ear (not 3) are much more enjoyable specially for rock music.
Do you mean the Ear(a)? The cheaper one?
I'm listening with my ear 1 😊
Nice!
Thanks, Zubi!
Nothing is notorious for thier sound eq shift thru ANC modes thru all models and have never fixed it
Hopefully, they do!
Anyone else find the volume up/down sound extremely grating? It sounds really sharp/high frequency to my ears- really weird choice, but maybe it's just me?

Carl Tweeted it, but products are made to be reviewed as is, not based on future promises. It's worse than the Ear (2), and I'm not sure if it'll improve to a level matching the Ear (2) or surpass it. If it does surpass it, how much? The Ear (2) was pretty average already.

wow the ear(a) seems to have incredibly bad ANC, i was just about to buy it but now i definitely wont
Don't love that they soft-locked the advanced EQ from the Ear (a). Wanted the yellow, didn't care about wireless charging- so couldn't really justify $50 for a software feature.

Not impressed with them. ANC seems lacking. Codecs don't help if the Tuning is not good. And i don't like the tuning of those at all. I prefer more expensive ones.
The tubing is better than most earbuds of all prices. Have you actually listened to them IRL? We even have frequency graphs that say it hits the average target range better than most. What do you expect?
