...also for tip 7 - you can display matches in rekordbox by opening the related track window on the right, going into the filter settings and then in criteria drop down menu select matches. I didn’t know how to find them on CDJs though so thanks for that one.
true, but the way it works is not very useful. You have to choose between the suggestions (based on key and tempo) or the matches. You keep switching if you want to use them both.
DJ Dexxter Clark yeah I really wish it would include matched tracks along side key and tempo suggestions. To be honest I originally thought it would do, it seems kinda silly to not just put them in the same list.
Hi Dexxter great video, great info. the hot cue text works in controllers so if you have a DDJ-RX you can see the names you have your hot cues when looking at your monitor but I never new it doesn't list in CDJs...thanks again
With many older songs (but no live tracks!) I face the impossibility to adjust the beat grid right everywhere (based on static analysis). With dynamic analysis I avoid these efforts and frustrations. However, with a constant changing bpm (even with original album songs by Toto for example) its very risky to mix with any song with a static bpm. I now use static bpm all the time and make sure the mixing in and out parts are more or less in sync with the grid and forget about everything in between. Do you have any suggestions?
Appreciate the shares!! So as I am listening, quick one. I tried the dynamic, helped me out on some songs I knew had two diff BPM's built into it. So 2 questions. #1 Would you also use dynamic for older songs prior to metronome making all beats stay on one BPM? #2 is it best to simply set analysis to dynamic as the default rather than static, so it can catch any track as you are importing rather than doing one offs?
good questions 👍 #1 dynamic is meant for 'analogue' songs with no fixed bpm, like an orchestra or a band. I.e.: a real life drummer drums never exactly 100 bpm due to the human factor. #2 I would look at the source material. If you are importing mostly electronic music with a fixed bpm I would set it to static, 'analogue' music dynamic. The algorithm has the most success if it knows how to treat the song. You can revisit the songs with a manually triggered re-analyse of the song if you have to.
Re - tip number 5, if you don’t want to make a new playlist you can order tracks by key (or bmp or what ever you like) and then right click the bar containing the column titles and select renumber track order. Then if you click to arrange tracks by number, they’ll stay as they are but you can re-arrange from them.
Yes, i've tried that, but I cant get it to work. I have a lot of duplicate 'track numbers' (a lot of 0's, 1's, 2's etc). I tried to apply the menu option PLAYLIST->RENUMBER TRACK ORDER but the duplicates prevent me from proper re-aranging.
DJ Dexxter Clark you don’t need to do it in the menu, if you right click the grey bar along the top of the tracks that has the titles in (such as track title, artist and BPM) the top option that comes up is to “renumber track order”
...also, quick question, I noticed that you have your key analysed in Camelot notation, yet it still works with related tracks. Do you know how you got this to work? I originally used Camelot, but they weren’t recognised so I had to change everything back to musical key.
mmm never had that problem, camelot works in my case on rekordbox 4 and 5. Rekordbox should recognize Camelot out of the box. One of the guys from Pioneer said that they support it, but not advertise it because Pioneer hasn't licenced it with MixedInKey. The CDJ's will recognize and mix and matching is possible with musical key and camelot notation. Only sorting will first display one, then the other.
I didnt see it before. I learned something today ;-) but I still have the duplicates: 54 times number 1, 4 times 2, 5 times no 3, really weird. I dont know whats the deal here, or i dont get how it supposed to work
@@DexxterClarkMusic I have a MacBook Pro late 2011 with a cake surround nothing else on input rekordbox when I click into performance mode it lags any ideas
For some reason I used the sync export and made a bunch of playlists exported to usb , when i went to use usb in cdj a contents folder popped up w a thousand folders w diff artists names and then the songs made in each folder.. the playlists I made are nowhere to be found lol? Think the formating of usb on windows? Dont remember if I did or didnt
dont know the problem, but rekordbox has some anoying bugs. It sounds like one of them. I stopped using the sync function because i missed songs on my USB that should have been synced. Instead I use the export function and guess what ... it skips the songs that exist on your USB, so it does effectively the same. Only this time, all my songs are on the USB. I suggest you reformat the USB drive (in the manner that is described in the video) and use the export function instead
I dont exactly understand what you mean. Do you want to export just one (or a couple) highlighted song to a usb stick? I dont think so. A workaround maybe make a special playlist for that purpose and export that. I have a special playlist with all the new songs I added, so I know wich one I still have to analyse and categorise and when i search a song i can quickly jump to all my new songs (of wich I cant remember the titles of yet)
You mean the sensitivity of the jogwheels of the CDJ's? No you cant. It's a mechanic switch on the players. When they are switched off, you still can adjust the sensitivity and it still works.
Hi, thank you for good tips, Do you have also tip how to order songs by key if you dont buy mixed in key software? I dont mind using the circle of fifths but I cannot find out how to rank the songs by the key. (Its not possible right? :( ,,, Or can I use recordbox songs suggestions instead of mixed in key? THXXXX,
in Rekordbox you can order by key (click on the table header). it's not the circle of fifths-order, but at least it groups songs with the same key together.
You have only cue-points and hot-cues as markers regretfully. You can name hot cues by inputting text next to the time displayed on the right next to the waveform. You need to know it's a textbox that you can click to input text. Good luck!
@@DexxterClarkMusic you said in your video that cue points don't transfer to the cdj so I'm asking is there any reason to set them up if they are not going to display, that said I've seen them transfer from rekordbox to cdj 2000 nexus2
The cue points DO transfer. I think I said something about the TEXTS of Hot Cues, which do not transfer (if I remember correctly). But there are pioneer controllers out there that do, look somewhere here in the comments. someone said something about certain controllers. Hope that helps!
is there a setting to make the hot cues not play when u tap them? I came from Serato, where tapping a hot cue pad would just cue like the cue button, but on rekordboxdj, it actually straight away plays the track from the cue point, which really annoys me
