    Today, let's test a giant laser donated by a viewer. It looks very powerful and dangerous. Let's also see what's inside and how does it work.

      He had me for a moment before I realized a super powerful laser wouldn't have controls mounted directly on it like that for safety. That and I think even this guy isn't nutty enough to light such a thing in the same room, at least not without making a point of donning questionable chinese or surplus Soviet protection.

    I think it is a security lasersource, from a laser "gate", used in bank or museum, back 80"s. It"s not too powerfull, but working at long distances, and gives a special modulated laser, for security reasons. It has that key and metal housing, for same reason, not because it"s power or danger, or something.

    • @audiocrush

      class 3b lasers are required by law to have a key or electronic interlock system in place here in germany, I know this seems kind of stupid for a 500mW laser but they are used in schools with children in physics class and stuff so well.. makes sense somehow

    • @audiocrush
      @audiocrush 4 года назад +4

      @Luiz Gonçalves I said "it seems"
      I was just referring to people who might think that people using these things always know what theire doing

    • @sebastiannielsen
      @sebastiannielsen 13 часов назад

      @@audiocrush Doesn't need to be a unique key. Only a kind of "child lock" system. Some just have a 2.5mm audio jack, with a 2.5mm audio plug on a keyring, inserting this audio plug into the laser will short the contacts so laser is enabled. That audio jack can also be wired to a door interlock system, by just wiring the 2 wires in the audio jack to a door magnet. The lasers from Wicked Lasers have a electronic interlock with a code, but all lasers have the same PIN code (3 short and 2 long), and the PIN code is unchangeable and in the manual. Just a "check that you have read the manual" kind of safety.
      Its just a thing to ensure "you know what you are doing" so somebody that finds the laser in a closet and play around with it, thinking its a flashlight or similiar, don't get "burnt".

They teached us the beam could bounce off and make people blind where no one would expect so. When playing with such things googles are a must, and these must be proper for the specific laser.

    the PXO-600 is a base 600Khz oscillator chip, with programmable divider. The pins are configured to divide the base 600K down to 50Khz if you didnt already know, lol but you probably did :) very cool. Nowdays we just use an oscillator connected to flip flops or a logic gate and then on to a divider chip separately, but that chip is cool as its all built in, provided they had the frequency you needed in a package. Nice one! :) *strokes cat in a Bond villain kind of way*
