Welcome to the Letterman RUclips Channel, home to all your favorite clips from Late Night and Late Show - as well as conversations with the writers, producers and performers who helped make it all happen. The language may strike you as quaint & flowery, the clothing comically lacey & ornate - but that’s how things were back in this colorful and now bygone era. Развлечения
We are all lucky to have shared the planet with this woman.
Indeed we are blessed
Don't push it. She was a decent singer but that's it. Plenty of other great singers out there. Better than her.
She is a gift and inspiration to us all.
@@adriantrusca1245 Honey, if you think so you didn’t listen well to her. 💃🏻
She was special and will never be forgotten . I loved her and her story inspired me , may she rest in peace .
How could you NOT love this woman.. So Talented, So attractive, So Humble. RIP... Never forgotten, LEGEND !!!!! A life worth living.
My mother, who prefers classical music.
She was a good sport and a classy lady.
And she fought herself, a strong strong woman!
@@kaysloan2787 yes ! I loved her infectious laugh! Classy ….you betcha.I’m sure a complete sweetheart inside as well.I never felt I know it’s immature) she’d ever die! TINA Was ALSO AN IDOL THOUGH IM NOT A BLACK WOMAN, SHE SPEAKS VERY ELOQUENTLY..the day she left earth I felt empty. I danced to your solo record ! This is lovely & painful to watch ….RIP Sweet TINA 😢YOU HELPED EVERY WOMAN!
So cool and her voice was incredible.
Tina had a beautiful laugh. She was pure and natural. Rest in peace, queen
She was such a knock out!! Watching her perform was ALWAYS inspiring! No one could move and sing like Tina. This is a sad day knowing she is no longer with us. What a fantastic world class talent.
Yes
Yes agree
So very true. From poverty until stardom . .talent doesn't care where you come from..if you are talented thats it.God bless you Tina,so sorry I never saw you .Your legacy will live on xx
No no like her. She had it all and I cry evertime I see her walking into opening night of the musical Tina in NYC. The crowd was going wild and she lit up as she acknowledged the group going crazy. So glad she got to see how much everyone loved her. At this point she was about 79 years old. She will be in ours hearts forever.
Yes exceptionally beautiful in every regards
How could 40 years have gone by so quickly?????
Thank you, Tina, for the memories.
Crazy how time flies isn't it?
39 now, gonna be 40 next year 😭
So true
I just turned 40, crying is about right 😭😭😭
39 years ago this aired 31 May 1984
Simply the best! There'll never be one like her again.
Live Aid Philly, close to the Stage: ROCKED....
You got that right
Man....she was on top of the world in '84.
So true, and to think how she went from completely off the radar to owning the stage alongside Mick Jagger in about 6 months... still hard to believe to this day.
Yep, I graduated HS that year. I remember her fondly.
@@kz1000ps And to do that in the mid-80s at the age of 45 is amazing.
@@kz1000pshow true ....became a superstar in 85
I tooled around Europe in a little green Citroen that year, Tina always in the cassette player!
Farewell beautiful lady. You changed this world for the better, always an inspiration. Rest peacefully, dear Tina. Thanks for everything. 🌹
Simple music can make you sing simple hug can make you feel better simple things can make you happy, i hope my simple Hello brings smile to your face...
Deeply saddened by her passing. She was my one of favorite childhood icons. RIP Queen Tina Turner
Me too. I feel like someone hit me in the gut
Tina Turner, Mick Jagger, and David Bowie….3 legendary musicians and performers.
As soon as I saw the headline pop up, I came right to RUclips to see which Letterman segment was pulled to remember her. Excellent choice.
She was classy and well spoken....a sad loss...RIP.
I think someone asked her where she learned to ‘speak properly,’ she said, ‘I’ve always spoken this way.’
Tuna Turner is one of my all-time favorite Letterman spots. Fond farewell to her.
On top of all her talent she was such a good sport.
RIP Tina Turner. You were simply the best. ❤
There were much better ones.
Simple music can make you sing simple hug can make you feel better simple things can make you happy, i hope my simple Hello brings smile to your face...
She had it all, so beautiful, charming, warm, talented and a great sense of humour.
This beautiful women, after years of abuse, she never lost her amazing soul. She held her head up high and lived with dignity and pride. I love this women. May she rest in eternal peace. She's a true legend and the legacy she has left will be her own, unmatched by no one....she's an amazing role model for ALL women.
... and MEN.
Yes
Thank you Tina Turner. ONE of a kind. You made your mark. What a talent.
She was just so chill as a person - and her music of course.
Fun Fact: From Late Night writer Joe Toplyn’s book:
As I mentioned, the writers are almost never involved in the panel segments, where the host interviews the guests. But there are exceptions. Sometimes a writer can script a comedy extra for a guest. Such an extra can add entertainment value to what would otherwise be a fairly predictable encounter.
For example, when I was a new writer on LNwDL, I learned that singer Tina Turner was going to be a guest. I remembered seeing, in a store window on my walk to work, a ridiculous product called "The Tuna Turner," a plastic container with a crank that could be used to blend the ingredients for tuna salad. Dave and the talent department went for my idea to present the gadget to Tina on the show. A couple of days later, there was the legendary Tina Turner at homebase, giddily cranking The Tuna Turner and making tuna salad while the band played Tina's hit "River Deep, Mountain High."
Classic!
Great moment!!
It was awesome
Which was an imbecilic, childish idea that wasted ten minutes of an interview with a great artist.
Brilliant!
RIP Tina!! You have a place in my heart always.
That's a awful nice thing to say. 😍👌
Gosh, she had to be so polite to Letterman. What a lady.
When you listen to her explain how difficult it could be to get some songs played on different music stations in America - "it was too black for some stations and not black enough for others", even in 1984, and how politely she discussed it, she handled herself so beautifully.
What an inspiration. I'm so glad I got to experience her music and even see her live 😍
Slight corrections...
There definitely was a racial divide in the 60s, but you missed exactly what Tina said. Both used each other's races as the same excuse not to play River Deep--Mountain High. Meanwhile it was a big UK hit.
Your comment about how it was similar in 1984 is off...
By 1984, with Private Dancer and its singles, radio couldn't be as divided about Tina's music, even if it wanted to. That year I heard her on pop, rock, top 40, and even many AM radio stations.
...and that's not counting stations or shows that were playing her pre-solo work (no need bringing up that name), or even her music videos on TV (before MTV and Muchmusic were free on cable).
@@djhrecordhound4391 Yep.
Private Dancer was huge in the '80s
God bless her!
Lucky You -Eh!!!
@@darm.8172 Hellyeah LOL! 🇨🇦
I am so heartbroken 💔 that she has passed. You didn't grow up in the 80s and didn't know who she was. Queen of rock and roll. You will be missed. You were a true queen and thank you for your wonderful music.
I wasn’t born until the 90’s, but I agree Tina is a musical legend. Really wish I could’ve seen her live around this time.
We saw her in Oakland in 2001 and it was a simply phenomenal performance. I heard her share on many occasions that people pay their hard earned money to see her and they deserve her best. Not to be corny, but she truly was simply the best. What a woman!
I was there too.
Joe Cocker was on the same bill.
Tina's such an inspiration & force of nature.
She had such a great genuine laugh. Her smiles were so radiant lighting up her face and beaming out love on everyone.
I am shocked. I have to cry untill I run out of tears. She will never be forgotten. So much wonderful memories. Thank you Tina for the glorious music.
@1959Berre I cried for days. She was/is a huge influence on my life. I started to come to grips with her passing when I heard from Cher stating that Tina was tired of being sick and she was ready to transcend. I’m choked up writing this but I’m happy that our queen is no longer suffering.
Did You Really Cry???
The best! RIP Tina, the legend.
Saw Tina perform live 4 decades ago. Loved her! Tina will be missed!!!
It’s so sad that time passes. So much powerful energy, talent graced this planet and suddenly all gone forever. Hard to imagine.
Not gone forever though.
We have her concerts on DVD, her music on CDs, her books.
And a zillion videos here on RUclips.
Tina is gone but her music will live on until the end of time
Simply the best. Rip
She was a class act.
Truly, a force of nature xx
Great way to describe Tina
😂😂😂
I like how Tina did a little dance while mixing the "Tuna Turner", too funny!!! Love her high pitched laughing, very sweet! Tina was always a good sport! That's what made Tina so great and why us fans really adored her!!!
Still miss you Tina!!!!😢😢😢
I loved it at 1:56 as she opens the box. She was so cute and happy about it! Just a little girl from Nutbush getting a present. Adorable. Deepest condolences to her family.
Rare and refreshing to see someone with that level of talent and fame with no apparent airs. What a star.
All these clips that get posted whenever someone passes makes me really appreciate Dave. Been watching him my whole life, gonna be weird when he’s not around anymore.
You guys are faster than the BBC.
Faster than anyone
A friend texted me a few minutes before this appeared, but that’s a rare occurrence!
😂😂😂😂
That's because this channel is Simply the Best.
@@ObamaFromKenya it must be grim trying to predict which celebrity needs a video on standby.
She is an amazing person. Great energy and so grounded.
Dave had the BEST writing staff 😊
Excellent bit and she was game to go along with it❤
Dave eschewed female writers, so he didn't actually have the best writing staff!
@@pollypickle Wonder why...
@@pollypickle He’s ‘interviewed’ as part of “Robin Williams Come Inside My Mind,’ and he says, “Governor Jerry Brown was dating Linda Ronstadt….that’s the California you want,’ as though it should be obvious to everyone.
Huh?
I wonder where the bar would have been put by a lesser writing team. In the lithosphere?
RIP Tina. We love you.
Radiating star now beaming across all universes
Wow! She was so beautiful!!
Love love love this woman. RIP you fabulous giant and GOAT.
Simple music can make you sing simple hug can make you feel better simple things can make you happy, i hope my simple Hello brings smile to your face..
Is this not SIMPLY THE BEST thing you've seen on the internet today? Oh to hear Tina's infectious squeal of a laugh again. Bless her. Thanks for the music.
What a classy, beautiful, intelligent, sexy, sensual, talented, lovely, and phenomenal woman. R.I.P Tina!
what a neat lady - a beautiful woman - an amazing performer - a gifted singer -
Touched by the hand of God -
RIP
RIP Tina. What a fantastic performer and beautiful classy lady
"Paul, can we have a little music while Tina cranks her tuna?" 🤣🤣🤣 God I miss Dave.
River Deep!
Dave's attempt to humiliate Tina here is cringe-worthy, as were so many of his "comedy" bits.
A chance to watch this beautiful and talented performer is a gift. RIP.
So sad. She was simply the best. 😢
I meanwhile really appreciate these honorings of celebritiys, who‘ve been friends of the show and now past away, through posting their appereances on the late show.
So classy and humble... note, she said Mick Jagger learned with her and the girls (the dancers). She could have simply talk only of herself and we wouldnt mind or notice. But no... she gave credit to her dancers. This is class you dont find anywhere anymore. All these so called celebrities/artists are just "me, myself and i" (no pun intended). You will be greatly missed, Tina❤
How can you not love this talented, iconic, beautiful and funny lady? R.I.P. Tina!
My mother, who prefers Beethoven, Brahms, Mozart.
Thanks for this. I had the pleasure of seeing hew a few times -- the last was in 2000. We paid a lot to get up front tickets and it was worth it! R.I.P Tina!
Oh Miss Turner I love you. Rest in Rockin Power sista
I like how she's more than willing to use the tuna turner! Very hands on, practical. Charming lady.
Knowing there is someone just sitting around waiting for celebs to die so the Letterman youtube channel can post their interviews with them keeps me up at night.
lol
The thought of that is so funny🤣🤣🤣
What a delightful giggle!
She is absolutely cool as hell...all smiles and down to Earth!...
You are in the arms of tge angels Tina. Rest in peace beautiful lady. You deserve that . Thank you for all the beautiful memories.🩷🌷🌹🌸🌺🌼⚘️🪻🌻🥲
Simple music can make you sing simple hug can make you feel better simple things can make you happy, i hope my simple Hello brings smile to your face..
She always seemed a very fun person. And what a knockout. RIP
"Paul, can we have a little music while Tina cranks her tuna?"
Thanks for the timely nod to one of the best, most hardworking talents in the business. Sure don't make them like that anymore 😭
Tina Turner is one of the greatest singers ever. She will always be The Queen of Rock and Roll. She left a legacy that we will always remember. There will never be another one like Tina Turner.
Rest in Peace, Tina. We will miss you. ❤
She is one of those beautiful people that you wish would never age or dye, cause they are so inspirational and talented that you can't get enough of them. And you want to go on watching them perform forever. 😔 Love you Tina Turner. 😍👌
What a great singer and a class act. Tina Turner was one of the best singers of pop/rock music this world will ever know. I feel so blessed that I have memories of her music when it was released. Hearing her songs for the first time was/is a wonderful experience indeed!
I thought Tina would live forever. So smokin hot on the stage, such energy. Loved her authenticity and admired her spiritually. I will miss her.
I loved how she navigated her short skirt here. It's those fabulous legs of hers.
Thanks for this guys♥️

Lovely talented Lady Tina Turner. Miss you! Thank you for sharing your talents with the world. RIP. 💔 💧 🌟 forever
Rest well Tina before your next life journey! My Mom just passed a few months ago at the age of 83 as well. Just like my Mom, I will always keep you in my heart for bringing to the world so many wonderful songs. "Nam Myoho Renge Kyo".
Tina also had a great appearance on Late Night in '93 (I believe). She performed a song ("I Don't Wanna Fight") and then had a hilarious interview with Dave where he tried to convince her to marry him. Peace to you, Tina.
I remember when she started wearing this wig it was the best decision. It really matched her onscreen persona and she looked outrageous with it, especially the clips holding back the front. So edgy and cool
I wonder, was it obvious to audiences at that moment in time, that she was wearing wigs?
@@RisforRockit she always wore wigs so I think so. Even in the 60’s.
We salute the divinity in you 👑Tina Turner, you will rest peacefully in our hearts forever...🙏🏾💕
Few have deserved the title of "Icon" as much as Tina.
She was certainly the best of us! RIP Ms Tina Turner you will be missed. 😢❤
God bless Tina Turner she was a beautiful person and may she rest in peace.
Tina's music IS timeless Big loss RIP
this interview stuck in my head because of the tuna gag and how delightful Ms Turner was about the whole thing
She gave a very nice interview and seemed like a delightful extremely talented person
Charming and sweet. RIP beautiful Queen Tina. 🧡🙏
What beautiful manners! Charm par excellence in receiving that "Tuna Turner"! Grace personified.
She’s lucky she moved to Europe where she was treated as a woman , an entertainer- not a black woman , or a black entertainer. She was also so lucky to meet a man who adored her- thank you Erwin for treating her like a queen and making her so happy!
Rest in Peace, Queen
Farewell my Queen! You are the best of the 20th century!!!
My god, what a beautiful woman! 😍 R.I.P.
1984 was such a magical year. My 1st year of HS & a great era for music. Great to see this archived nostalgia.

i'll always LOVE this wonderful woman. Thank you, Tina, for the life you led! YOu just inspired me today, in fact, with the way you handled your stroke, my dear. I was just disgnosed today with having had one and your strength and courage helped me!

Rest in peace Tina. Dave was a little stiff in this one, but it was a wonderful snapshot of her career at that point. It was nice to watch today.
Dave was always "a little stiff ". That's his style. Works well as a balance to flamboyant performers.
This could be the first unboxing video ever 😊 and of course Tina did it 👏🏻👏🏻 I'll miss her so much 😢🌹
