The reasoning behind it is if teenagers earn money pumpin' gas, they won't be committing crimes because they will be too busy working to have time and they can make money so they don't have to commit crimes

Instead of going into the gas station to put, say, $25 down because that’s all you can afford, you can do the number combo and the screen will then ask you to put in the dollar amount you want the pump to fill it to.

Set amount for your card 🤦🏻♀️ When you use your card at the pump it charges you like $50-$100 then whatever you don't use, it refunds the rest back to your card. "You're tellin me that for 40 years" you never used a card at the pump?
Cool to know but i dont really get it. 😂 Why not just stop the pump at the amount? Ive only went in to prepay if paying cash & paying cash you have to go in anyway.
Also, this is useful it’s too cold, hot , or some type of precipitation or if you just don’t feel like watching the pump til it gets to the right amount.
For ages I always wanted to use cash to pay, and had to go inside and give extra amount, because I wouldn't know what the total would be. I'm not sure how this helps.
In canada we've had pay at the pump with preset amounts for a couple decades...debit cards with contactless tap payment for close to 10 years....welcome to to the early 2000s lol

i think it is still for cards. it is so you can put a pre-set amount for the pump to stop on it's own.

Gas pumps sometimes have massive holds on your account depending on the cardholder institution. By forcing a preset it can't hold more than that
