Just finished it today and passed. It was my first time riding and they told me I barely passed. I failed one of the skill tests (slow sharp turn without putting a foot down.)
True, most do. All but one of our group did (they got nervous and tipped the bike in the U-turn box, felt bad because they had been working very hard). I had ridden dirt bikes before but still had a tough time Day 1 with the clutch control and a bit Day 2 until it finally "clicked" in my head and I got used to my training bike's weird clutch.

Same for me the first time. I missed 11 points on the U-Turn box and you were only allowed 10 max on the first 2 exercises. Failed by 1 point since everything else was perfect. About to retake it this weekend coming up after having bought a bike and doing practice on my own. Completely different mental state going in now.
Just pass the MSF last weekend first time on a bike in my life. Everything you said in this video is 100% true so anyone who has not taken the course it is So helpful.
@@SGzCMH No, my first time ever on a motorcycle was at that MSF class. LOL , first movement on the bike I went a little sideways and the instructor ask me what was wrong I told him this was me very first time ever on a motorcycle. And with each lesson those two day I got better and better more confident I just kept telling myself to keep my head up and keep my speed up you can't ride a bike looking down.
There is this video at a motorcycle race where the guy feel off the bike at high speed the bike flipped over then came back up on it's two wheels and continued on the its own. That told me that these bikes are designed to stay up right and speed. If I can find that video I will send the link.
As an msf instructor the test that gets most people I've seen is the braking test. The u turns in the box is quite easy once the students learn to use the whole box instead of cutting themselves short
Best Advice I can give on the MSF course is Keep your head up and your Speed up do not try to go slow under 8, 9 or 10 mph the bike will feel heavy and wants to tilt or fall over anything over 10mph the bike is light and will go where ever you want it to go, Where ever you are LOOKING!
Took my class over past 2 days. The order of the tests is exactly how he describes it. Our instructors actually made the practice sessions a little harder than the test to ensure we'd pass. Like he said, they are not looking for perfection, but looking for riders to have the basic concepts down to go out and practice and work on skills.
I live in NJ and I’ve had my safety course booked for 3 months now, and I’m taking it May 8th/9th. Already bought my first bike, got it insured along with a title transfer set for this Saturday. Never really rode before besides up my driveway, practicing the friction zone and man I’m excited.

This is the confidence booster i needed. Thanks! I've never road a bike before day one of the course today, and I'm having some trouble with gear shifting, any body have some good last minute tips?
I took the test in July. Failed it the first time because I went out of bounds and my short stop instructions were not so clear. The second time I passed with zero faults. I’m one month into riding and it’s freaking awesome
Totally agree with your assessment of the training, which I have completed myself and share the same thoughts. I have been riding now just over a year and like you continue to work on my skills every ride. I even taught my wife to ride and get her endorsement, so now I have someone to ride with. Thanks for your encouragement and the kind words you had for your fellow training mates. I was the same way, encouraged other riders with less or no experience and they passed like me.
It's been a long time since I have taken the course, but I'm hoping to attend with my wife when she is ready. Very informative video and really nice Sporty! Well done sir!
I took the msf class this past weekend and got a 0 (0-15) and had never ridden a motorcycle before. The only thing it took me a few times to really nail down was the tight figure eight.
I had a problem with this on day one, but learned KEEP YOUR HEAD UP and turn your head the direction you want to go. It feels strange to look behind while turning but trust your bike bc it will follow. Use your hips as well... it's like your dancing. Whatever way your head is facing you will go. Look down, your foot goes down etc. Have confidence and talk yourself through it!! You got this
LOL I literally missed mine for the SAME reason! I missed it by ONE lousy point! LOL I stopped to short also. I aced the "U"" turn which I bombed literally EVERY practice turn on. An instructor pulled me off to the side and told me how to do it which was perfect.
Hey, another subscriber just showed up after all this time! Before I tell you about my class, I wanted to thank you for the ride around town today; that was fun and you had a lot of info. My class was much different and less stringent, and get a load of this; there was no test. Okay, let me clarify that, but before I do, I was concerned as anyone always is; no one is alone there. Now I see you're doing mods, how cool. Some after-class folks might not stop by because they're exhausted, then after that, they forget. But, you should be seeing newer ones; you're very easy to listen to. I worried about those two things your brought up; the cones and the U-turns/figure 8s. Turned out, we were to go along a larger perimeter (separated by dotted-lines) first, then use the inward lanes, about 4 ft shorter. I guess I wasn't paying attention and used the smaller lanes and was okay with that the whole time and a little surprised how easy it was (I did ride mini-bikes as a kid). I was corrected for not doing as instructed, but only with a smile and a compliment, so that was good. Talk about confidence. I'm getting to the "no test part", hang on. Our "cones" were little 2" disks on the pavement, and the only larger ones were only for a stop, so they were never confusing, or stood out too much. The instructor (only 1 for 8 people), went through each exercise after explaining them (which was sometimes confusing) so we could see how it was done (which made it not confusing). I drove my car 100 miles total for two days because of price and reviews. There was one 5 miles away that was $70 more. I was told the salary of the secretary to answer phones was the reason. Mine has a website and a cell to leave a message some of the time. I don't care, I saved 70 bucks! It was $179 (in 2023) and the classroom course was online, which did include a test, but was not part of the BRC by our instructor. Another thing is that if you really aren't comfortable being first and you're worried about that, you can ask either the instructor or another classmate (or both) that you would appreciate someone else being first. The do not want you uncomfortable, but someone has to go first. My instructor accommodated someone who asked. I was first a couple of times and I think it improved my confidence. My classmates knew no more than I did regarding this class, and I had to do it anyway, right? I had ridden mini-bikes and a motorcycle a few times, so I was given a different bike as well (not a Rebel), which the instructor also used to perform his riding examples. So, about the "no test". We were supposed to do a riding exercise and practice it 2 times, then go on to the next exercise. That's not how it happened. We did them 3 times, but that meant nothing to us, because we didn't know the objective of the instructor. Our "test" was the 3rd ride, but we weren't told that. So, we had confidence from the first two rides, then the third time was just super easy (easier). We took the test without knowing it was a test, but it still wasn't over. When we were in line on our bikes for the next 2 practice exercises, the instructor said, "Congratulations everybody; you all passed". We were like, what? He said we had 2 more exercises and tests, but that no matter how bad we did (based on our performance), that unless someone wrecked their bike, we would all pass - and we did. It was really so neat and so unexpected. Those were some great exercises! Then, for the written multiple choice paper test, we were all given a clipboard and a pen. The instructor said we could not use our phones. Then, he went around the corner and said he'd be back if a few minutes and that if we needed anything, we could ask the another classmates. It then turned into a learning session. We all discussed the questions and the answers and filled in our answers. We did not use our phones. The instructor came back and none of us got a perfect score, nor did we need to. We could miss 5 questions and pass, but no one missed 5 questions. I wouldn't really call that a test, but it was informative and I believe a positive thing to do. I'm sure none of us would have missed that many on our own, had he not done that. There was nothing wrong with what my instructor did, in fact I'd say it was brilliant on both the road "test" and paper "questionnaire". You're right, "They do not want you to fail", and it's not because my instructor was different than yours. He had a different technique, but the result was the same. We practiced like you did and we got tested like you did;. We just didn't know it, and therefore we weren't worried about it. We did well because we were genuinely trying to be better, not because we were being scored (even though we were). Even though every place might be different, the result is the same. They want you to pass and if you mess up, they will tell you how not to. One guy rode off in a bizarre direction and the instructor said, "Hey man, where are you going? Come back here!" and it was funny and he wasn't punished for it, he just came back and we kept going. A girl dropped her bike in a turn (in practice) and she passed. I will be more fun that you can possibly imagine, and will also make you a better car driver when you leave that class. BTW: Your insurance carrier might give you a car discount (5%) for having the endorsement, even if you don't have a bike insured with them. It elevates your license. Call them and check.
Never been on a bike before MSF course. The only part of the test I struggled on was the u turn. Put a foot down. Overall the rest of the test was easy. Lost some points on the quick stop too but ended up getting at 92. Only one person failed due to dropping bike during u turn. I think he slightly panicked and hit his breaks during it. Overall I think if me a person who’s never ridden passed with a good score you can too.
Thanks for the Shoutout Brother!! We had a great class. I had a blast. I definitely struggled during class, and even dropped the bike a couple times during training. But what a confidence boost it was to Ace the test (wooohooo). I was on cloud nine. Love the videos! I'm getting close on a bike, so looking forward to riding soon.
@@spen4christ Yeah it was harsh. It felt like a goddamn episode of survivor. But those who were left became shocked and focused and really listened to the instructors' effective coaching, and we became good riders very quickly. Respect to instructor Bobby from North Arlington.
I just took my course over this last weekend and messed up the threshold braking as well...😅. Still passed though, thank god. It was a great experience.😊
Hah! I did my test and got a perfect score today! Haha, I got lucky I think (I made a couple other mistakes that weren't graded due to my bike not being the best). Thank you for making this, you helped me pass! =)
took mine last thursday passed. Went to the DMV the day after and took the skills test. Passed first try and got my endorsement right away. I have put about 72 miles on my new motorcycle so far. I try to get out for rides at least 4 times a day for practice. I ride 20 feet away from my house. I put my navigation to go back to my house and then I just ride all over town and get lost and practice and when I am ready I just look down and follow navigation back home :)
Great video, thanks! I'd like to point out they the stopping evaluation isn't defined at 14 ft... it depends on your speed. You are timed between line A and line B... and the graded stopping distance is based on that time.
Wow I need to go wherever y’all are going, i’ve taken a harley davidson msf course at the same place twice, and failed both times. The first fail was understandable, but the second I only hit one cone causing an immediate fail… There was an instructor in training that has been riding for 30+ years that had to do it with us and he failed even worst than I did. Would highly recommend against Harleys classes, can’t say the same for all of them but I’ve heard many similar stories at different places.
I bought a 2020 883 for my 36th birthday last summer. Never rode a motorcycle prior to taking the MSF course. Other than being nervous, not having a clue what I was doing..they had 6 of us in the class, 4 had endorsements already. He kept the 2 of us non licensed in the back, began to get frustrated when we asked to see the excersise again and made alot of unnecessary comments. Day 2 was a Saturday, the dealership was giving a "free beer and burgers" event. There were about 10+ riders standing on the sides yelling comments as we were trying to learn, no one told them to go back up the hill to the event. Needless to say l, I walked out on day 3 and I plan on getting my permit from the DMV as well as doing the road test there. 10 minutes with a buddy, I learned more than the 3 days in the course. My Harley experience was completely ruined and did not ride for 6 months after.
I had a similar experience last year at the local Harley dealership. I intend to just do the DMV test as I feel the instructor did not give any remediation if a person made a mistake.
When I first took my test 6years ago I didn’t fail a single test and thought I was good. But I was hovering my foot through turns and had so many points taken off I failed. I had no clue that wasn’t allowed and wish they had told me prior, never went to retake it but I hope to eventually
Yup the figure 8 box got me 3 points taken off.Of course I had to go first in all 5 test which got my heart going.Anyone can pass but just manage the test adrenaline.
No shame in falling. I'm not even planning to drive on roads after I get my license. Going to practice a month or so in parking lots before I venture onto the roads
I failed my second eval. Got anxious and failed. Got 11 points on it and didn’t get to procede. Bright side it’s free for me so I’m going again in 3 weeks 😤. Hopefully I get to practice before then
@@sammysosa389 you have to request the course through your chain of command. It’s free because the civilian one you take doesn’t count for service members so the military covers the cost.
Going to take my MSF course from berts barracudas this weekend! Super excited. What a coincidence that one of the first videos I look up for tips as the date gets closer is from someone who went the same place! haha.
Absolutely PRAYING I passed. This has been close to 2 years of waiting. Today I’ve got the test, and although I’m confident in riding comfortable, I can not get ok with turning right. It messes with my head and I’m so scared I’ll fail because of it. I also totally break under pressure, I’m a total introvert, like even signing up for the course got me shakin. Just praying I pass😭.
i have a grom and ive been riding dirty... i think i will pass , i would say im pretty comfortable on it and understand how a motorcycle works and how to do most basic things on it. i feel confident but it just sounds easier than i am assuming it will be.
I passed with a perfect score today :D I watched some of your vids few days ago, very happy about it. I would've been fine passing with points missed but, maybe it was more laid back than yours lol, they may've sliced some of that nervousness by calling the "Test" the "Next Practice", but everyone did pretty well compared to my last time taking it in 2015, I failed along with a chick lol, was my very first time riding a motorcycle, got 22 points, not sure what went wrong besides everything, countless stalls, MSF changed a bit since then, and believe I dropped the bike which may've been 21 default idk lol. But last year I bought a new automatic and drove over 800 miles, without my MSF done, though I technically did take it before anything, it's a bit nerve racking if it's the first thing you do, because there's less confidence in taking the hit one day, and sharp turns in the box on a big machine, I actually got on one of the bigger bikes while I only rode a lil navi since I do want a cruiser after all, and it was worth not cheaping out on a grom lol, very fun experience. My main fears were being unable to get sleep, I hardly slept on day 1 with all that nerve, then I crashed for a good nights rest lol.. that's another problem back then I bought animals day 1 cuz there was a pet store I never visit and I had to educate myself on them and no time to sleep/learn. but, i'm a more serious driver now and all so :) it's all good, I still recommend some motorbike experience on a small one before the MSF just because it's a little expensive to take the course but only if you're careful, i've not even popped a wheelie lol feels like a financial risk more than anything.
We had 7 people and only one didn’t make it 😢. RIP. She dropped the bike right off the bat😱. You can’t drop the bike! No, no! Everyone else passed, even a couple who had never been on a motorcycle before! They taught us well.
Just passed mine in Miami Florida. 5 steps so you can too: 1) Don't be a douchebag 2) Don't assume you know it all 3) Ask questions to show you give a damn 4) During assessment, don't put a foot down 5) During assessment, don't drop the bike
MSF Coach here, two things you are saying that will ensure people fail on their BRC skills test. For Eval 3 the speed has to be between 12 and 18 MPH, not 10. 10mph on second attempt will award max points. And you are timed to assess your speed and your standard stopping distance at that speed bracket. At 18mph, we expect you to stop no further than 20 feet to demonstrate good stopping technique. For your speed the standard was 15 feet. For someone coming at 12mph is 8. So saying 15 is the target distance will force ppl over 15mph to slam on their brakes and ppl close to 12 to not worry and get points for overshooting their standard distance.
I took the first two classes last Friday and Saturday but overslept for the actual test 🤦♂️I’m blaming the time change I was 30mins late I’m taking the test tomorrow after work but on the other hand I was using a stretched loud grom they had it was a blast using somthing so obnoxious with the 250s and stock groms
Didnt care for the E-rider online class course, only because I had to do it on a little tablet, that half the time wouldn't register...I don't want to do another 6 hours for missing it by 1 point
Hey man I hope you see this but does everyone get 2 days and then test or everyone is different and if you can chose how you want your classes which did you do because I just want to do the ride course
Just passed yesterday. We had 12 people one girl was to short so they suggested she go into a trike class instead I felt bad for her. One girl also fell and failed. I'm so happy I passed!

The MSF test makes a lot me sense for actual riding than the stupid California DMV test. Thanks for explaining what they cover. Basically just interested, I have been riding for over 50 years. I still practice all the time especially in the spring when the realriding starts. I generally ride year around but in the winter it is for errands around town weather permitting.

Thanks for the description and encouragement, I take my second day tomorrow with the final assessment.
My instructor would have kicked you out after the first drop
@@jasperhilliard6289 even in just training part. I did not drop it during the test.
@@spen4christ yeah in my class 5 people got kicked out/failed/dropped out. Of the two people who dropped a bike both of them got sent home immediately
@@jasperhilliard6289 wow!! That's pretty harsh.
My course is next weekend! I’m a little nervous since I’ve never been on a bike but I’m more excited than anything. Thanks for the video!
Good Luck! It's a lot fun!
You are going to do great! Have fun with it and know you will get it. Like John said, just be confident.
@@GETWRENCHD i took the MSF Saturday and i didn't pass the written test. As of right now i don't know if i want to take the class again
@@mikeanderson2152 not sure why a written test could be grounds to fail for a driving test
@@vetisu_7719 seriously? You have to know the rules of the road. You take a written test to drive any motor vehicle on the road.
I take my class the first week of April! I can not wait!
Same dude, good luck!
Hopefully I get to practice before then
How is yours free? Mine is $200
@@vetisu_7719 military service members get the MSF course free as they don’t count civilian courses as valid
@@BaltiWhiskeyHandsI'm a military service member and it wasn't free for me??
@@sammysosa389 you have to request the course through your chain of command. It’s free because the civilian one you take doesn’t count for service members so the military covers the cost.

I commend you for having 0 dislikes and being very informative. Stay safe bro
Going to take my MSF course from berts barracudas this weekend! Super excited. What a coincidence that one of the first videos I look up for tips as the date gets closer is from someone who went the same place! haha.
Great video. I love how you get straight to the point and are easy to understand
I live right down the street from that spot (wont use details) but im about to take my test in 2 weeks. would love an experienced rider to ride with!
Have mine starting tonight! Wish me luck lol. I have 170 miles on a bike with my permit
Thx for sharing your experience and congrats on your success! :o) Very interesting!
How did it go? I just finished day 1 of msf. And I'm so nervous to take the test tomorrow bc I felt I did horribly on the practice exercises.
i’m taking my course this weekend thanks for the video
i have a grom and ive been riding dirty... i think i will pass , i would say im pretty comfortable on it and understand how a motorcycle works and how to do most basic things on it. i feel confident but it just sounds easier than i am assuming it will be.
passed my msf today with no prior motorcycle experience got a perfect score
congrats! were you nervous beforehand?
what alot of people dont go over is the written part that you have to take how hard is it to pass the written exam?
2 Questions: Where did you get your GoPro helmet mount?
How do you keep your visor from fogging up?
We have the same helmet Bell Qualifier DLX
It was my last day, pretty easy if you open mind, and listen to instructors! Just pay attention and be open mind ❤
We had 7 people and only one didn’t make it 😢. RIP. She dropped the bike right off the bat😱. You can’t drop the bike! No, no! Everyone else passed, even a couple who had never been on a motorcycle before! They taught us well.
Just passed the mfs course today.Only thing is when its a test I get nervous but passed with only 3 points taking off.Did 4 perfect.
I loved my class great teachers great group I passed with a 90ish%. Wonderful group
I’m just wondering about the jacket you have on in this video. What is it? Brand etc
Just passed mine in Miami Florida.
5 steps so you can too:
1) Don't be a douchebag
2) Don't assume you know it all
3) Ask questions to show you give a damn
4) During assessment, don't put a foot down
5) During assessment, don't drop the bike
Do you have a Video on counter steering and leaning at higher speeds ?
Im thinking about trying the course. Ive been riding for a very long time but maybe i can change some habits.
i think U-turns where the hardest for me to get out of my head and trust the bike , but nailed it on the skills test.
This actually helped my anxiety about the course. I take it in about 2 months. Thanks
Didnt care for the E-rider online class course, only because I had to do it on a little tablet, that half the time wouldn't register...I don't want to do another 6 hours for missing it by 1 point
How is your GoPro picking up audio? Bluetooth?
I love your motorcycle, I got the same one and I’m ready for my riding class , thanks for your help ❤️
Which bike is it? Looking to get my first after I pass the MSF.
Hey man I hope you see this but does everyone get 2 days and then test or everyone is different and if you can chose how you want your classes which did you do because I just want to do the ride course
After stalling, a couple a times. I began to hope I'd pass but feeling a failure.

take mine this next Monday, i rode dirt bikes my entire life, only problem is doing something wrong in front of everyone there😂
I passed mine I got my motorcycle license yesterday now my next step is to get a motorcycle and Im just curious what bike is that
The MSF test makes a lot me sense for actual riding than the stupid California DMV test. Thanks for explaining what they cover. Basically just interested, I have been riding for over 50 years. I still practice all the time especially in the spring when the realriding starts. I generally ride year around but in the winter it is for errands around town weather permitting.

@David McKee what kind of questions were on the test??
@David McKee right?? I’m so nervous about that and the best of luck to the both of us haha
Wow. I’m the same way. I’m more nervous of understanding them too then the actual ride.
what brand are your gloves and where did you buy them at? thank you
Passing exempts you from the road portion at the dmv correct? Have my permit already taking the class next month. I’m on Georgia if that matters
Was very helpful thank you
Great content my friend,👊🏾💯
I passed my test with 0 points taking off. Just follow the insructor, be comfortable on the bike. they might yell, but don't bother with that. Just listen to their instruction and you will be good.
Wait so does the class get you the endorsement
Day 1 same thing. A person got removed because of the confidence
Good video! Thank you for sharing! I’m looking forward to my class date in Oct. Does climate in the year make a difference?

No one talks about the written test. That’s what I’m worried about 😢
thats the easiest part
