      I have seven pairs of Vivobarefoot boots and shoes. The Tracker Forest ESC were my first pair. They are some badass boots! Not only are they comfortable but they are cool looking as well! They have a futuristic look that make me think of science fiction novels where, characters are fighting their way across vast rooftops of some, terrible Orwellian prison city of the future. Those characters might be wearing these boots!

    Bought mine just after they came out back in May '21 but have only done relatively few kilometers - the past year erupted into a frenzy of gout pain that I've been working through. I'm nearly (finally) back and relishing getting back out there more. These boots are like almost nothing else out there and I had to try them - wish I had already but stoked that quite a few like you out there are as happy with them as I imagined. Vivo is doing some very cool stuff for the feet of the world. I really was skeptical about this sort of barefoot application but even in my relatively few miles, I was beyond impressed.

    I tried them this week and unfortunately I have to send them back for a reason. The pros: As soon as I put them on I felt that they are very comfortable, the toe has good space, the leather of the shoes is very soft and flexible, it seems to wear a pillow,, I think they are the most comfortable I have ever tried. Neutral: the ankle support is a little too high for me, if I lace up all the way up the restriction of movement bothers me a bit, but if I lace up halfway they still feel comfortable enough. Cons: This is the reason why I decided not to keep them. under the heel, walking you can feel the spur of the Michelin sole, which compared to other soles is very big and annoying. I feel like I'm walking with a big stone stuck under my heel and every time I put it down I feel its pressure. for this reason I think that walking some hours could hurt or be very annoying. with the other vivo soles it doesn't happen to me, only with this one.

    • @OwenJackson
      @OwenJackson  Год назад +1

      Hi Jason. Thanks for sharing your experience 👍 Agreed with the soft, supple leather and the amount of space, they’ve been the best barefoot boots I’ve tried 🤩 I find the sole reassuring on steep terrain ⛰️ Sorry to hear they haven’t been perfect from your perspective.
      Have you considered any other barefoot shoes. Where are your preferred hiking locations? ⛰️ 🗺️ 🦶🏻 Maybe something like the Tracker Decon which still has a deep lug without the heel spur. Or as an alternative, I’ll be making a video on the Magna Lites soon as a summer multi purpose boot 🌞

    Just came across your channel and really enjoyed the first couple of your videos I've watched - looks like we have similar values about loving and respecting the wild. Thanks very much for reviewing Vivobarefoots. I bought a pair of Tracker FG IIs a couple of months ago but unfortunately the waterproofing has failed already despite taking very good care of them and even more of an issue for me, the grip in mud has been so poor I actually feel they're quite dangerous for walking in the kind of terrain I'm typically in (the moors in West and South Yorkshire and the Peak District). I'm trying to decide whether to give the Forest Escs a go instead for the superior grip, as I do love the barefoot design of Vivos and their environmental values. I'd be interested to hear how you are finding their "water repellence" in heavy rain/boggy territory and if their grip is significantly better on mud than the Tracker FGs. How long have you been walking in them so far? Would love to see reviews after you've had them a while to see how they hold up long-term. Thanks again for the great content - I'll be watching more!

    • @OwenJackson
      @OwenJackson  2 года назад +6

      Amy, thank you for taking the time to watch my content and comment. It really means the world. I enjoy creating this content and love that we share similar values 💚
      The ESC grip, in my opinion, has far exceeded that of the Tracker II FG's. I can't comment on the full water repellence as since this video was filmed we've been blessed with lovely dry weather - typical! In the opening shots where I walk through deep bog the boots are only overwhelmed as water ingresses over the top of the boots, opposed to saturating the boot itself [if that makes sense]. So more testing and miles to come 👣
      Long-term reviews are being planned so please feel free to subscribe so as not to miss future content.
      You're in a beautiful part of the world being near the Peaks and Yorkshire moors so not too far from me. Maybe our paths will cross one day 🔀
      Enjoy the wonderful weekend and will be sure to keep bringing content.

      @@OwenJackson Thanks so much Owen for replying with more info about the ESCs. That's great to hear that the grip is a big improvement and yes, made total sense what you said about water only coming in through the ankle in deep bog. I was really excited when I came across your review and realised you walk in pretty much the same neck of the woods as me - there are a lot of reviews of Vivos by people over in the States but the conditions look to be very different over there for the most part - much drier and rockier. So your video was so helpful to me, thank you. Like you say, maybe one day our paths will cross - if I spot you I'll be sure to say hi! Looking forward to seeing what other content you put out.

      I've been wearing the boots more during inclement weather and not just hikes. I do really like the way they feel and the robust nature of them. The analogy I'd give, is like wearing a G-shock watch. It's capable of doing so much more, but a pleasure to use on a daily basis. If that makes sense 😊 The leather has worn well and didn't need any bedding in. And it sounds like you're already accustomed to barefoot life so ready to make the switch.

    • @OwenJackson
      @OwenJackson  2 месяца назад

      Thanks for watching 🙏🏻 Both boots are great choices. The Tracker Forest ESC is the better all-round boot with higher water protection. The Magna Forest ESC is more nimble and has the ESC sole, making it great for spring/summer hikes with awesome traction. I personally love the obsidian and lime detailing on the Magna Forest.
      If I were choosing just one pair without my current range, I'd be tempted by the Magna Forest. However, the Tracker Forest is my go-to, do-it-all boot.

    Really like the idea behind barefoot shoes and these look great. Can the sole be easily replaced do you know? One of my biggest issues with walking boots is how the modern molded sole can fail and render a perfectly good boot useless.

    • @OwenJackson
      @OwenJackson  2 года назад +1

      Firstly, fantastic moustache 🙌 Agreed, they look fantastic, and perform really well. I also share your concerns. The boots are limited by the lifetime of the sole. You can see before the heel they rise up towards the ankle and don’t think it would be easy to cobble a new sole onto them. Not my area of expertise but it does seem a tad limiting. The 43 is the better fit although on the tighter side and the 44 just feels to loose. Does that leather actually loosen up a bit after breakin period??? I would think so since it’s so soft?? If it does loosen up then I think I would go with the smaller size??? Please help!!

      @OwenJackson  Год назад +2

      Thanks for the kind words with the video, more to come 🤩
      From what you are describing I would go with the 43's, as you said the other size is too big. Caveat to that, what sock did you wear when trying them on, was it a representative thickness of the sock that you would wear while walking + hiking in the boots?
      With the 100 day returns policy, be assured that if you feel you haven't selected the right size, you have some flexibility. Don't forget code OWEN10 knocks 10% off purchase price
      The boots have definitely softened, although the sizing hasn't become larger.

      Hey Jana 👋🏻 yes, I have the same size in both boots. If I was to choose again, I would size up in the Tracker II FG. I think the website also mentions to do the same. For my use case, I wanted the most rugged boot. I prefer the chunky and classic 'boot' aesthetic. I think the Magnas would work awesome for scrambles and with a pair of khaki trousers! Hey Nathan. Yes I have the Tracker FG2 😊 I’ve got the same size in both the Tracker and Forest ESC. I believe the website mentions to potentially go up a size in the FG2?! Maybe that’s what you question is referring to.
      My personal experience is that size for size, the Forest ESC is more roomy but I haven’t found the FG2 too tight ↔️
      A friend went for his regular size in the Tracker FG2 and hasn’t been disappointed or felt the need to change 👍
      Maybe in the future I would consider sizing up when these have walked their last miles, especially in the winter with a thicker sock on, but honestly I love the pair I have and really bonded with them. Giving them lots of leather balm and developing a lovely patina. I’d just get them refreshed with revivo if it came to it.
      In my mind the Tracker FG and Forest ESC are different boots for different purposes and some of it comes down to personal preference, both in the circumstances you wear them and for your personal preference in fitting 🦶🏻
      Hope that helps a little and let me know if I can help further ✌🏻

      Thanks so much for the info. Honestly I believe that since starting to run in Altras in 2013 and Vivo for everything else in 2017 my feet have expanded both ways. Especially length wise due to the arch flattening out. I have always been a 47 in vivo except for the Tracker FG 2 which I had to go to a 48. I have quite a collection of Vivos and there are even ones that I barely wear that I just recently tried on that no longer fit in 47. Some Gobi and leather Primus Trek and Geo Racer Knit. To add to it my right foot is 299mm and left is 306mm. So Vivo suggests two different sizes for each foot. Basically I just need a 47.5. Or I need a trust fund so I could afford to buy two pairs to get 47 and 48. It is pretty great that they do the 100 day trial. I got 47 and 48 in Tracker Forest ESC and magna Forest ESC. 48 on right feels the slightest bit loose on the heel with minimal slippage. 47 is basically perfect save for the pinky sized amount of space between left big toe and front of boot. As long as my foot doesn’t elongate any more I think they would work. Definitely love both of these boots but I may have to wait for Vivo to make half sizes because they are a pretty penny. I have already reached out to them. Anyway, this is the epitome of a first world problem. Again thanks for the advice. I’ll keep watching!!

    I did buy the vivo tracker forest esc boot. But unfortunately they were to rigid the heel so I had to return them.
    I have got haglunds deformity what’s a bone spur on the heel so do you think the forest FG are more flexible or are able to be broken in and made flexible?

    • @OwenJackson
      @OwenJackson  2 года назад

      This is just my opinion, but I think the Tracker FG’s feel more fitted, and less yielding, than the ESC’s. You could potentially break the FG’s in. I saw someone using a cobblers hammer or copper nosed hammer somewhere. But it’s a risk and I couldn’t comment without first hand experience. I hope you find a solution and look forward to ours paths crossing someday in the beautiful Derbyshire countryside 🙏🏻 💚

      Thank you for your question 😊 the Tracker FG II, until recently, we’re my only boot. They’ve been with me on numerous terrain and through all seasons. They’ve been fantastic
      The only time I felt the need for
      More grip was through winter where the Peak District and particularly boggy marsh land. I felt I needed more grip, especially during descents.
      The Tracker ESC have a far more aggressive tread pattern and more confidence inspiring over harsher terrain and weather conditions.
      I’m fortunate that I can now assess the weather and terrain and make a decisions
      accordingly.

    I bought these boots, and really like them, but find that I have quite a bit of a hotspot on my heel. I am aware of the fact that I am probably heel striking due to bad habits from regular shoes, but I do find when walking up a hill for example my heel tends to pop up a bit and hit the boot right where the hard ankle support material is. I am trying to determine if it is a bad fit or just bad walking habits. Anyone else have this experience or have any advice? Thanks :)

    • @OwenJackson
      @OwenJackson  Год назад

      Thanks for sharing your experience. Some thoughts; are you wearing them with an insole? Maybe removing the insole will allow the foot to sit lower in the boot and prevent it riding into the hard part is. Or maybe try experiment with a different lacing pattern. Or invest is a quality pair of socks. Not sure if any of this would help but would be curious to hear your findings 💭
      Maybe the boots are a bit large for your specific foot size and shape. Do you have enough toe room at in the toe box?
      Hope you manage to resolve the issues you’re facing 🙏🏻

      hey Brad, thanks for watching. Curious to know how has the insole changed? What made the previous version better?
      Regarding the water resistance, they're from materials that are water resistant and materials that are non-absorbent. In my experience they have not let my feet get wet, and only when I have been gungho through boggy terrain, and let water breach the top of the boot, has water ingressed.

    • @bradsessomsable
      @bradsessomsable Год назад

      The ortho insole vs the thermal insole. I'd prefer the theal insole. Like the idea of thermal regulation. I find it extremely helpful as my feet get hot when on thr move. Being I'd buy these primarily for hunting and I walk in excess of a mile plus to most of my spots it' makes a huge difference in how cold my feet get when I'm finally in stand and inactive.

      first ... humans ARE part of nature.
      second ... humans can prevent many "natural" disasters. for example, simply cleaning up the debris in forests help prevent forest fires.
      that is why the oldest forest in germany still exists.
      third ... logging practices that keep forests healthy.
      forth ...reforestation of deserts
      fifth ... humans can control over population of some species to the detriment of others.
      for example, controlling predator populations in certain areas, so they prey can survive, and provide a balance. ... yellow stone park for example.
      and it happens all over africa,
      sixth ... humans have developed the use of fossil fuels ... which has made the air quality around the world 100% better, stopped the harvesting of whales for their oil, helped maintain wooded areas, etc.

      They are expensive when you're considering or comparing initial purchase price. But when you compare performance and length of service, they actually cost less. I wish I could find the video again easily, but a real-life usage comparison I saw was between Vivobarefoot hiker (about $155) and a same-purpose equivalent barefoot trail-runner model of another brand (about $75). In the same length of time (about 3 years) and type of usage, she had to replace the trail runners twice (so 3 pairs) and the original Vivos were ready for a resole.

    Are you kidding us? "barefoot" means with no shoes and no socks or anything. Just with bare feet. If you wear shoes, it does not matter what sort of shoes those are and what their name is. With shoes you are not going barefoot, you are going shoefoot. -.-

      Hi Imo. While I do understand your scepticism around the terminology, they do offer a fantastic solution to going fully au naturale 🦶 there are times when protection for our feet from sharp terrain or inclement conditions, extra grip or socially accepted norms require footwear. For when these situations occur , these are among the best I have worn.
      I spend most of my day completely barefoot. In the office, in the gym etc. however vivobarefoot have been a fantastic complement to my barefoot needs. Wide toe box, zero drop, fit shaped not shoe shaped, thin sole.
      Are you an advocate of barefoot living? Is it something you enjoy?
