these look like some cyberpunk and/or Aperture Science buildings I LOVE IT!! I swear this is the first satisfactory build that Ive seen that actual looked like a factory and not some modern architecture lol

@harrisonlorens3585 The game is extremely generous with where it let's you place objects. You can even place them fully or partially "inside" other objects. This lets you do stupid stuff like pack 16 machines into a space that should only hold 6. And all of them are still fully functional.

Hey man I just wanted to swing by this video again and tell you how thankful I am for it. I've been finding myself frustrated with how to design my factories and stuff. I like a bit of form on top of brutal function. Put on my designs end up not being easily stackable or somewhat cumbersome in large scales. After I watch this video I've taken a step back and re-examine my design philosophy I found myself really liking this way of designing. I tested it out while trying to redesign my large-scale pure iron ingot factory. Not only do I really like the aesthetic of it, it feels so goddamn satisfying to line all these things up next to each other without having to touch it and just stacking on top with minimal effort. If you set up all the piping and shit correctly it barely takes any time at all the string all these together. I doubt I'll use it for everything, but I think this type of design styles going to stick around in my repertoire for quite a while. Besides, there's nothing wrong with amor industrial aesthetic.
Please more of the compact build tips!!! I literally paused the video in awe when you first showed the stacked splitter connected because I was like "I COULD HAVE BEEN MAKING EVERYTHING SO MUCH SMALLER!!". Also really liked the talk about engineering principles and abstracting out concepts to make them simpler. I definitely think I've been over-complicating my builds as of late.

I already adapted your technique to a 8x Foundry blueprint in the 5x5 blueprint designer. Almost as clean but as compact and functional as your smelter design. Thanks again for your inspiration!!!
To me it looks like whatever is going on in those splitter/merger stacks is physically impossible, but I gotta give you credit for making something so compact and smooth looking! Also love how you use the frames to confine them to their own little modules.

I'm no stranger to factory games (Dyson Sphere Project is my jam) but I saw the overwhelmingly positive reviews and I figured it was time. This is basically how the games Shapez and Shapez 2 works, especially the 2nd one. You build modular factories on fixed-sized foundations and then string together a series of them, each doing primary one task, to achieve a complicated result. It allows building new factories and scaling up to be done quickly and with little mental overhead as the hardest part of the design process is in creating the modular factories in the first place. Once you're just plonking them down, you don't have to think as hard.
I knew about the "cursed lift" technique for awhile now, but the method i knew invovled weird snapping physics with stackable convoyer poles, i had no idea you could do this so easily with just snapping to splitters!
This was great, I love these designs and tips! Fast sub for sure, can't wait to see all your other tips! I especially am interested in your process for machines with multiple inputs!
I can't count how many times I've laid down rows of smelters, lifts, splitters, etc. I did BP a few in 0.8, but they were never as compact as yours. Great technique! I duplicated your actions and made a clean compact 8 smelters BP. Works great! I now want to hear your take on other buildings like constructors and assemblers
Would love to see the flowing train lines video. I really like the way yours look versus some of these full on track configurators with big bridges and the like.
The compact load-balancer techniques would be so cool to see, especially for the more complicated buildings. Compact refineries would be great cause those things are behemoths lol

really helpful one - ! tried to apply the method to a set of 6 constructors (4x4) and 8 assemblers (5x5) and am surprised by the given flexibility of the modules. My assembler-Unit is spitting out 1000 cable/min for now but can easily do 2000 when fully upgraded. I can remember having a bus-floor mk3 belts feeding 2k cables in my EA-playthrough, it was gruesome.. again, very helpful, gj!
I'm glad you're running with the concept! I find rather than overclocking machines with this method, it's considerably easier to just stack a second module. Although I also just discovered to my horror that the 6x6 designer can hold 15 assemblers if you nudge them 1/2m off the grid, so you can squeeze 3 rows in there. I don't know whether I'm looking forward to designing that. I mean I could just not, but that's no fun, so I guess that's my answer lol.
@@excrubulent I guess there is a balance in cramping as much stuff into it as possible and keeping it 'readable' - for Assemblers and the Big Machines I'll stick to the logistics floor mainly but anything where I've set up rows of constructors taking up huge spaces is piece of the past - thanks to this point and click solution. And since Power Shards are not really an issue anymore I like to build preferably less machines - means also less beltwork and so on but I get the concept and am glad to underclock where possible under the given mindset since I need to keep track of my power consumption - keep it growing!

Thanks for the incredibly useful video, that taught me a lot, I did deviate from your build slightly, I painted the columns white. Creating Borg type units will help me get my mind around some of the more complex recipes... touch wood
Wow, I'm new to the game, and this is smaller than my manifold 4 smelter blueprint that I made, plus it's balanced and stack-able! I goofed changing the splitters on the second set of smelters, so 2 of them weren't working. That was OK though, because partway through rebuilding, I started understanding better and stopped referring to the video. On my 3rd attempt at a fix, I didn't use the video and got everything sorted out. I look forward to more tips and blueprints.

The tutorial is amazing. I had to set it to x0.5 speed and rewind it many many times but it's amazing.

And since Power Shards are not really an issue anymore I like to build preferably less machines - means also less beltwork and so on but I get the concept and am glad to underclock where possible under the given mindset since I need to keep track of my power consumption - keep it growing!

Thanks for the incredibly useful video, that taught me a lot, I did deviate from your build slightly, I painted the columns white. Creating Borg type units will help me get my mind around some of the more complex recipes... touch wood

Wow, I'm new to the game, and this is smaller than my manifold 4 smelter blueprint that I made, plus it's balanced and stack-able! I goofed changing the splitters on the second set of smelters, so 2 of them weren't working. That was OK though, because partway through rebuilding, I started understanding better and stopped referring to the video. On my 3rd attempt at a fix, I didn't use the video and got everything sorted out.
I look forward to more tips and blueprints.
