I'm a blacksmith irl and i cringe so hard when i see what they make us do just to get some steel... Irl making steel is pretty much a primitive-level technology. You don't need refractory bricks, dirt will do, and you don't need a huge contraption, you just need a kind of pit you can fill up with charcoal, and blast some air inside. Then you throw in your bits of iron, and if you do it right and control the chemistry of the fire, you will get steel. (and then you have to fold it a few times). Steel isn't much harder to make than iron, it's just an extra step that takes time. Also WHY USE BORAX FOR THE WELD WHEN YOU CAN JUST USE SAND They really are looking for an excuse to make us grind the gale for hours. Also historically, sand was much more used because it was cheap compared to borax (borax needed to be imported).
Thanks awesome, thanks for sharing 😲 Once I tried speedrunning from bronze to steel and it took me 16 hours irl just to get my first steel ingot, so yeah, the grind is crazy xD
dude i follow several primitive technology channels and steel is really fucking hard to do, let alone consistently, at a primitive level. (also obviously its just gameplay mechanics you cant have people able to access steel right after spawning in)
The only thing I would have for reference would be the TFC mod and real life. In TFC after steel there is black steel and after that there is blue and red steel. In real life we have hard steel, quick steel, soft steel and etc. So in general it seems the answer is better and more refined steel than the last? I mean, we are simply making simply iron-carbon steel and not making any aloy like a simple nickel-steel aloy. Sooo that's my guess...
In the game files you can see stainless steel as a resource although we don't know how to make it yet,I predict it will probably be an alloy of steel using titanium or chrome just like in real life
@@FelniirFokiin _that's-a cooul_! But what use will it have? Because I may be wrong but stainless steel is too wak for making tools... maybe some ind of pot or pan? Or something else related to water?
@@Lights_of_Silver Every type of steel we use in today's world is considered stainless,we obviously don't make the same simple carbonized iron that the medieval people made,we have better technology and we can use different types of steel for different jobs, for example we don't use the same alloy of steel for knives and forks that we use in construction work.

I feel they are trying to get a good mixture of realism and balancing it with gameplay.

@@the_origame you should upload that, a steel speedrun would be very interesting
i also had the feeling making steel in vintage story was harder than real life 😂
The house you built is super cool! Could we get a build guide or some detailed screenshots? I love it.
Thanks! Unfortunately, I don't think I have this world anymore xD But maybe I could think about some build guides later, thanks for the idea!
@@the_origame Haha no biggie, I really love your buidling style; it's simple and homely but with nice little details that make it special.
Copper, bronze, iron, steel.. What's next?
Maybe new 1.19 release overview 😄 And then back to the grind xD

Question: can you us lava as a heat source instead of coal & what is lava us for in vintage story?
nope, it's pretty much useless for now
