Accidentally Flying Paramotor in a Military Controlled Airspace!!

- Always check your NOTAMS... It slipped my mind twice. But to be perfectly honest, I still would have flown there based on what that NOTAM said. It didn't designate the airspace any differently than what it usually is - Class G. I'm guessing that was a miscommunication with the airport and the military. No biggie because they were kind enough to let us know and offer a solution.
Even if you're flying from a field 2 miles away from a class G airport, check that airport's NOTAMS. They could do what happened in this video and set up a temporary class D airspace with a 5 nautical mile ring which now puts your field in an area you can't fly in without getting approval from the controlling authority.
Part 103.17 Operations in certain airspace:
No person may operate an ultralight vehicle within Class A, Class B, Class C, or Class D airspace or within the lateral boundaries of the surface area of Class E airspace designated for an airport unless that person has prior authorization from the ATC facility having jurisdiction over that airspace.

respect to those guys - they did their jobs, but did it with consideration. In other words, they were cool about it, which a lot of folks wouldn't be...
Agreed. skateboarders get the police called on them for skating on sidewalks but paragliders just get a notice/requirement warning from the military lmao
STM Saiiyn because you're more likely to hit a person or car while skateboarding than hitting a person while paragliding, it's not like skating is illegal, it's just that it might be bothersome or dangerous for the people around you.
STM Saiiyn the main problem with skaters is they damage property when they do tricks and they run into people more often. Skaters have designated areas to skate and so do paramotors
FlipYap How the hell could a skateboard damage property? & never seen a skater run into anyone
STM Saiiyn when you do rail slides on a skateboard you wear down paint on the surface of the rails and it makes property owners upset. Also sliding can leave behind skid marks. Anything you do with the board that involves friction basically can cause damage. People are hit by skaters a lot and they complain. Idk why skaters are targeted though, a lot of things can cause property damage

..Pathetic. Just the attitude..
This is a prime example of who really runs the show in the military. NCO is doing all the talking while the captain just listens and minds his manners. Either way, I think they handled it very nicely on both sides.
You mean the captain runs the show and doesn't need to talk, right?
A good co will give command to his nco’s and staff nco’s until he or she feels they are needed. It’s part of field training. Gives them a better look at the progression of their troops. See who is ready for the next step.
Officers don't do anything besides tell ncos who to yell at, its not an officers job to do any type of grunt work including mps. They are behind the scenes. You can cuss out your lt as a private and he will tell you " your right " walk away with a smile and tell the NCO to destroy your world and then act like the nice guy after it all....

Both times for speeding, the first time I was doing around 20 over and the second time 10 over. Everytime I get pulled over I accept that I’m going to get a ticket, I’m relaxed and just treat the officer like the average person. Still have not received a ticket. I called the airport about their notam being vague the next day and they added another notam to clear up that it is indeed class D airspace. check her out!
www.notams.faa.gov
edit: they're gone so you won't see the notam anymore
Even if it wasn't made a class d by notam, class g/e communications areas (controlled e/g airports) are a thing. §91.126(d) and §91.127(c) cover this... except 91.1(e) specifically states that 103 operations aren't subject to 91, thus not subject to the e/g communications areas? Once it was notam'd a D, however, 103.17 comes into play regardless.
Matthew Kosmoski right. there's a lot of diving into the regs for figuring out miniscule things in 103
Correct, but the airport in question is a no-tower, uncontrolled, class G airspace.
A NOTAM can open a tower at any untowered airport much like it can close a tower at a towered airport. Towers can absolutely exist at Class G airports. KTME was a G tower until recently. KLCQ is another well known example. Both had Ds put up recently. Class E/G towers are uncommon, but they exist. Read the regs listed for more information.
I wasn't disputing that. The normal airport operates, however, as a uncontrolled/un-towered Class G. I totally understand the NOTAM changed that, only for the time period in question.
Yup, I landed at this exact airport in a Cessna 152 last Monday without realizing it was Class D. The embarrassing part is that I did check the notams, but very quickly by glancing over them and I must have missed it. Lesson learned, pay closer attention to notams. I'm still a student pilot, still learning...
