After editing the video, I tested the powering the X2L with my power bank and it went ok. I removed the WiFi module and a USB device I had plugged in. It has not crashed since.
It has 2x PCI express slots!! 1 for WiFi and 1 for a m.2 SSD!! It doesn't need the WiFi module because it's got 1gig ethernet and if you really want crappy WiFi get a cheap USB WiFi module to use. Then put a adaptor in the WiFi slot to convert it to 2x SATA SSD ports (its bandwidth is enough to be snappy) and get a second adaptor for the m.2 SSD slot (its 4x PCI express lane's) to run a dedicated GPU!! Something like a GTX 1660 or a (RTX A2000 needs only slot power) and a 3D printed egpu enclosure or a cheap Chinese egpu enclosure.. that will really turn this into a machine that will game decently..
What are you running your own Home Assistant on currently? I might get this one for my Home Assistant and especially to overcome transcoding limitations of Rpi for my Plex home media server.
I haven't transitioned to Home Assistant yet. I use a solution from Universal Devices for home automation. I do use Node-RED pretty extensively for automation

Also interesting are mini-PC solutions mounted inside electrical boxes placed in the walls. The solution consists of several round PCBs forming one device. Very exotic. 🙂 Regards. M.
I think this might be a good option for creating a portable mini laptop type device. Is it possible to power it without using the USB-C Port? I could see the RP2040 acting as a controller for displaying battery information
Heard about the 12L by Radxa , The NIO 12L looks like a great option for a budget NAS build! #NAS #HomeServer Genio 1200 + expandable storage = perfect combo!
i once read specyfication of n3000 series of intel low power soc's and those things are loaded by default with 2 channel memory controller, 2 sata channel multiple usb and pcie lines and gpio pins all baked into the 6 watt cpu with integrated graphics you mostly limited by board design and bios used by whoever lock the cpu down on hp stream laptop motherboards gpio pins are used to configure hardware in crude 1/0 format while booting up the bios
@@makerbymistake yeah I would assume drivers are the limitation there, but could be interesting to benchmark it. the CPU performance might be lacking, but I wonder how it would compare next to a Orange pi running box86/64 and proton
@@CSLRProductions Orange Pi makes several SBCs with different CPUs. I compared the X2L to the Rock 5B, which uses a very similar CPU as the Orange Pi 5. As to the eGPU that you are looking for, just check if it has Linux or Windows support

I think powering without USB-C would require a solder job, which is doable
What do you think about the combination of the Radxa NIO 12L and its Genio processor for tasks like running a home server?
I'm sure it runs just as well as any ARM system. It has a nice CPU and GPU but will rely on support from Radxa

Yep, pretty much all chips have GPIO but very different than the GPIO on the RP2040, where you can do SPI, I2C, PWM, ADC, etc

As long as there is a driver for the he OS you are running.
