Wow! This symphony never lets up! Really bracing. The YT computer thought I would like to view this performance. I am glad it did. And on the Berlin Classics label. One of the very best. Thanks for posting
Henri-Joseph Rigel (1741-1799) may have decided to move Paris after 1767 but he was still German-born at Wertheim-am-Main - he wrote at least 16 operas in the stile of Gluck & at least 6 sacred oratorios & concerti for various instruments along with 12 string quartets & violin sonatas & at least 25 Sinfonias - thankfully most of his music has surviv’d - so he is a late 18th century contemporary of Mozart & Haydn very much worth listening-to and studying !!
Delightful discovery! So hard to describe it's influences-but certainly the music of Bizet seems to share some affinity-particularly His own C major symphony which came 5 years later....
