John Wetton gives this beautiful song a new meaning. He could sing anything! This sounds like a mix of King Crimson and Genesis. I miss Tony Banks! RIP John Wetton! 😢
Thanks for the upload. RIP Ian Mcdonald and JW, who was a brilliant vocalist. Both gone too soon. Hackett always a class act. I think they did the song justice considering the missing original players.
Wetton adds his style to a song that you wouldn't think anyone could make good after Gabriel, but the song really fits into John's vocal style real nice.
Tony, Tony Tony...how could you prefer playing drum machine driven pop music instead of masterpieces like this? ( cash aside)...amongst the best music of the 20th century!!
I love these collaborations. It's fantastic these guys are keeping each other's music alive. I love that they know each other's music this well. Excellent version. 👍🏻
My intro to Prog Rock!! First heard this song in 1973 on "Midnight Special"(?) and have been a Genesis/ Steve Hackett/ Peter Gabriel/ Mike Rutherford fan ever since. Great version with Asia(?)!! Thanks for the post!
Even though Peter looked absolutely goofy in that performance, I too loved it. And this is still one of my all-time favs. I learned "just enough" of the chords to play it on my little Mellotron synth thingy on the iPad.
This is magic. King Crimson blended with Genesis. Steve Hackett keeps the Legacy of Genesis. RIP Mr Wetton. Whatever he sings he makes it sound like he has written it! Thanks for uploading this!👍⭐️👊 (Is it Chester on the drums?)
Everyone has gotten a mention in the comments except Julian Colbeck, who plays the Mellotron during the intro and the traditional keyboard parts throughout the song.
Great version, really. The studio version with the orchestra mixed with the mellotron is great too. In both cases, John Wetton sings so well.... Marvelous, better than the original version, I'd say. And I very rarely say such a thing as I do love the original Genesis from the early seventies ! And better than the recent versions featuring Nad Sylvan whose voice is really a caricature of Gabriel's high pitched vocals of the early days...
@@tynothdorft7374 : I guess you are not a big fan of him either... That wasn't very kind of me to write this, as the guy has some talent as an instrumentalist and can compose some good tracks, I've learned later on, but as a singer, he's not my cup of tea.
I don't think he emulates him very well. his singing is quite often too mannered, effected. Phil Collins sang Supper's Ready and some other songs from the PG era better than him...
Can't say I care much for this performance. As great as Chester Thompson is as a drummer, Phill Collins fucking KILLED it in the original recording! I also love John Wetton, but this is not the right vehicle for him. What does stand-out is the incredibly poignant Mellotron introduction Tony Banks created! It's one of the most Iconic Prog-Keyboard intros EVER!
The rest of the band is faltering, and the great John Wetton is out of his depth trying to emulate Peter Gabriel, but Steve Hackett is THE most sublime guitarist in progressive rock - his version with Nad Sylvan in "Genesis Revisited" is sheer perfection.
Chester Thompson, Wow, one of the only drummers that can play alongside Phil and has done as much as anybody to keep Genesis music alive
I totally agree. Fantastic!
I believe Chester influenced Phil into the hard hitting style of In the Air Tonight. So props for that too!!
Never impressed with Thompson
@@tommyrawlings3046 Drumming with Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention, Weather Report, Santana, Genesis and Phil Collins are pretty impressive...
John Wetton’s vocal is top class in this rendition of the song. RIP sir you were so underrated.

RIP John Wetton! 😢
RIP John Wetton
❤
Wetton was magical and sorely missed!
RIP John. You are missed.
OH YES! Watcher of the skies was one of the greatest Genesis songs ever!
Thanks for the upload. RIP Ian Mcdonald and JW, who was a brilliant vocalist. Both gone too soon. Hackett always a class act. I think they did the song justice considering the missing original players.

Great to see this combination of players; Kon Wetton does an amazing performance on vocals. R.I.P. John Wetton and Ian McDonald.
'John'
RIP Ian McDonald.
IMHO...this is best version of “Watcher” I’ve heard. RIP John Wetton.
King Crimson meets Genesis

Great track and so well realised here. John Wetton's vocals really are top class, a totally under rated musician IMHO. Thanks for sharing :)
Best version of "Watcher" EVER !!!
Tre miti! R.I.P. John e Ian❤😢
The definitive live version of this song.
Pezzo fantastico,Phantom a 1000❤
Beautiful rendition of one of my favorite Genesis songs. very nice. atmospheric stage and all
never knew these guys ever got together - great rendition and a lot of talented legends on this stage
Thank you for sharing ... what a line-up but firstly great humble musicians

I saw the same show on "Midnight Special" & share your experience!! The songs from the TV broadcast are on RUclips, I watch them often!

A truely great voice can sing anything. Wetton can sing Genesis.
No he can't. Listen to his rendition of Firth of Fifth. It's pretty poor.
@@NiravShah1982 What are you on about? It's 10 times better than the original.
Cantala tu pa ver. No seas huevetz.
R. I. P. John 😪
BRILLIANT WORK
EVERYONE OF THEM
Oh my. No words. Thank you.
It does not matter whose music it is , John Wetton sings it best.
This is magic. King Crimson blended with Genesis. Steve Hackett keeps the Legacy of Genesis. RIP Mr Wetton. Whatever he sings he makes it sound like he has written it!

Yes it's Chester on the drums.
RIP Ian McDonald
Beautiful.

For those of u that don't know Ian sadly passed away today
Man, do I miss wetton so much talent
Magnificent!
Ian Macdonald did the bass line in the keyboard
This is soooooooooooooooooooooo good!!!!!!!!!!!
Those going on "cruise to the edge" watch this now!!
Wetton never had to put anything into it. All he had to do was open his mouth and sing; and it was beautiful.
I have come to think JOHN WETTON was so perfect about everything because he was an ANGEL.
Mr. Chester Thompson, What Snaredrum Power !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
brilliant band with magic chester on drums ... wetton is genius as well hackett
Amazing great sound
John wetton What a beautiful voice what a perfect progressive rock real music
And why the hell isn't John playing bass on this one? This has a great bass-line.
Its ian playing bass rip ian
playing that bassline and singing the vocal part together would be pretty much impossible
Maravilloso día
The first time I heard this version somehow echoed King Crimson ,the explanation is obvious.A really good version!
Great, but where's that Picardi third? They end the song with a minor chord!
Good point.
yep, that felt... wrong. ah, well -- chalk it up to "interpretation," I suppose. ;)
Epic....
Is that Chester Thompson?
Yes Sir
💐💐💐💐💐🕊✌️
I love Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins both but John Wetton had one of the most powerful voices I know
❤
Is it Chester Thompson on drums ?
Yess
Nagyon szép produkció Gabriel nélkül is.
Is that Chester on drums?
Oh yeah
Sure

Y ee a h ...!
Magnifique version aussi mais je préfère avec peter gabriel cette chanson 🥰
Drums:Chester Tompson ?
1 the 10 cc
All I miss is Collins on drums. Irreplaceable.
Itsme
nice - but Steve Hackett was only half of the equation - his keys plus Peter Gabriel's voice is what made this tune
Would much rather be watching/listening to Phil play... brought far more life to it... love Chester - but not this time...
genesis and crimson together? ok

Wetton didn't intend to emulate Gabriel. He's delivers his own excepcional interpretation.
Totally wrong. Wetton sings like Wetton, he does not have to emulate anybody. Tas freaking perdido.
You estas bien freaking perdido huevetas.
The one faltering is some guy called huevetas bl101
CHESTER RUINED THE WHOLE SONG!!!
He always plays too heavy...not sense of the nuances...
@@jeanlucchapelon I always thought so too, but the masses loved Chester more than Bill.
They were wrong, of course 💕☺️
Go hear katy perra
Oh yeah go and try it. No puedes ni play a cube huebetas.

Good GOD THIS IS HORRIBLE!!!!!!
Frankly I like this over the original. Wetton sang it better IMHO, and I generally prefer Gabriel as a vocalist.
Joseph Arruda chester changing thr beat just fucks up the whole song imo
You debes tener pupú in your ears. Bulto de this
RIP Ian McDonald.
