I watched this music video 3+ years ago, and it changed my life. I thought “OK, I will watch anything these guys do, because this was phenomenal.” When they released it in November 2017, it hit number one on iTunes in 80 countries in a matter of hours. They had a great year that year, but this MV and remix put them into the stratosphere. I still have not heard any song even remotely like it. It is an exquisite mix of styles. Genius stuff.

Hi, I am back. Good reaction. ty. Steve Aoki is a DJ yes. He has a song called Waste It On Me Ft. BTS members pls check it out. There is an MV. Rush Hour by Crush ft. JHope has a part of Mic Drop choreo. Yes, they naming their song I'm Fine. So glad ur loving this one. This song was the 1st time i heard Steve Aoki. Never heard of him before. Mic Drop: It's a slap in the face for their haters by saying they're at a point where it doesn't matter what you say because your words don't matter anymore. It's also a flex song by pointing out how many trophies they have because at this point they'd need a U-Haul to get them all. Just for an example, in Korea there are weekly music shows by various stations and the winner gets a trophy. Dynamite has 36 (I think) award show wins and that's without any promotion on their end. Fun fact: Mic Drop was inspired by President Obama's mic drop when he left office. =0] The dance break they added to the live is cool. There is a practice video for that. And they have performed this song with the new choreo for a while now. I saw another live with it. It is a perfect addition to the original choreo though they just made it harder as usual. =0p Hope u check it out. Hugs. Stay safe. -NY USA 2019 Army💟

    - Fun fact: When Suga drops the mic live it's an extra fake mic and Jin taps his mic for the sound. 🤭
    - This is from the famously fandom-nicknamed "Dior performance". Their outfits were specially created for each of them for this tour by one of Dior's youngest, hippest designers, Kim Jones who really likes them.
    - I can't wait for you to dive further into the rap line... Mic Drop is sort of the 5th Cypher which is why they say "the last farewell". They were just done with addressing the haters. 😏😎
    - The Dior Performance of Outro: Tear is a rap line must. The song is from when they thought about disbanding and their emotions really show. 💔

fun fact, in some live performances, SUGA drops a fake mic(bc it would be crazy to drop their customized mic actually) and Jin hits his mic to create the sound of a mic dropping.

The lyrics "Did you see my bag? It's hella trophies and it's hella thick" are extremely meaningful. A lot of K-pop fans were mocking them for not winning any daesang (grand prize) - despite coming from an almost bankrupt label with no power - compared to other groups (from bigger - to not say biggest - labels). But at some point they started winning more and more, sweeping most of them in a few years, surpassing the biggest groups. As of today, they hold the record of most daesang wins in South Korean history with over 70
They are the biggest group in the world and are all successful soloists as well! They all are lyricists (especially RM) and producers (especially SUGA) but they all write, produce and compose to different degrees. The Rap Line - RM, SUGA & j-hope - participates more because they have more experience as they are rappers. RM and SUGA even used to make music before joining BigHit and BTS
    - RM writes and produces a lot for BTS and himself. 'Intro: Persona' (BTS solo) and 'Nuts' (solo) are some of my favourites (He did too many, it's hard to recommend just a few),RM(1st mixtape), Mono(2nd mixtape), Indigo(1st album), Right Place,Wrong Person(2nd album). [RM did write (participated in writing) a song for TXT Lovesong it's his 1st song for another group.]
    - Jin: 'Moon' (BTS solo) and 'The Astronaut' (solo) are my favourites of his. He came back from his military service recently and plans on releasing an album in Nov/Dec.
    - SUGA aka Agust D produces and writes a lot for himself and BTS but also for other artists. I'd recommend 'Haegeum' (solo,2 part to trilogy(1st Daechwita, 3rd is Amygdala)) and 'Interlude: Shadow' (BTS solo). Agust D(1st mixtape), D-2(2nd mixtape), D-Day(1st album), etc.
    - J-hope: he writes and produces a lot for BTS and himself. my favorites are 'More' (solo) and 'Outro: Ego' (BTS solo). Hope World(1st mixtape), Jack in the Box is my favorite 1st album. He come back from military service in October 21. Hope on the Street (2nd album).
    - Jimin: 'Like Crazy' (solo) and 'Serendipity' (BTS solo) and are my favorites. Face(1st album), His 2nd mini album - 'Muse' -Who tittle track and 'Smeraldo Garden Marching Band' pre-release =0p
    - V: my favorites are 'Slow Dancing' (solo), 'Inner Child' (BTS solo) and 'Blue & Grey' (BTS), layover(1st album), etc.
    - Jung Kook: 'Begin' (BTS solo), 'Magic Shop' (BTS) and 'Standing Next to You' (solo), Golden(1st Eng album), etc.

I think that there are aspects of the theatrics and glamor of bts that also really fit with metal (or rock/glam rock), and metal also focuses on the personalities of band members, interrelationships, has a lot of fun and experimentation, long careers with a lot of lore, big stages and productions, and sometimes the glam costuming and makeup...all things that bts bring with their career as well, though in ways that look different of course.
a lot of creatives or music fans do actually enjoy multiple genres even if they tend to work in one or gravitate towards listening to one...even namjoon is a good example of this since rap and the poetry of writing rap music is what he loves and what brought him to music, but i do believe he also truly enjoys pop and playing in other genres. suga also enjoys playing in different genres and has described kpop as integrated content (metal bands imo do some of that as well, where they focus on a whole experience).
idk if I put it well, but i think part of what metalheads connect to when it comes to bts are some overlapping aspects that both genres have, but no one expects them to sound the same or be the same. The fans of other bands/metal bands or rock bands may come for their interest in more genuine people (dorks!), glam, theatrics, big production, storylines or symbolism in music videos, passion for performance in general, stories both of the members personal experiences and in the context of a bonkers career trajectory, interactions of band members, and some of these elements can help connect them to bts because once you dig deeper past a few mvs, bts show a lot of their personalities, flaws, fun and genuine sides and show their process (even if that can be a very different process than a garage band or a metal band), their passion comes through in how they talk about music and how hard they work and i think people who love music and performance in general can connect with that. I think that fits well with some of the big personalities and performances in the metal world or in the rock world, just in a different cultural context with different genre expectations to play around with.
also, in rock or metal there are a lot of bands who have really deep connections with their fans, and bts has shown how a passionate fanbase can bring a band around the world and to new heights, and can bring people together...so there may be a curiosity about how that fandom passion happened and people who are fans of metal groups with long careers and dedicated fanbases may find that aspect relatable, fun, and inspiring. the communities in metal (and other rock genres) can be really close and go for a long time, in pop it isn't usually really that way (though there are exceptions) so it does stand out when people have that. fame and success isn't quite the same as a passionate fandom that forms it's own mini subculture or counterculture and bts have that and have a community around their content, music, and lives that is interesting and maybe relatable with people who have seen what metal communities can be like (and it will look different of course but some of that community feeling, love for expression and human stories, appreciation for spectacle, etc...is relatable across genres.) I think also that what can draw people to bts who usually enjoy other types of band music is a curiosity for human stories in general, which imo, is an aspect in music that is often forgotten but plays a huge roll, we like to connect with and understand people and music is a huge form of expression and bts being korean and having this huge success that they do will bring in people who always have loved how music brings people together or connects people and are curious about a new culture and the band that has had that worldwide success that can be really hard to achieve across language barriers...that is an interesting human story! imo for metal fans, lyrics, personalities, performance, and glamour/visuals are already things that they experience in the metal genre and are threads that tie some metal to bts.
Sorry my comment was so long! I just think about this a lot. I know this wasn't exactly about what about the music itself draws new people to bts music...but I think that a lot of people who love music also love some of the performance aspects, human expression aspects, and stories....so there are more things in common across musical genres in general than people may realize at the surface. It might be part of why a lot of people who are initially curious about bts end up wanting to know more about them and more behind the scenes, because it may actually draw people who already are interested in music beyond just hearing some songs. so maybe metalheads who just casually listen and aren't interested in the stories or have assumptions about the 'shallowness' of pop aren't going to give bts a chance, but I think it makes sense to me why many people who do give them a chance end up connecting more than they might have expected to when they see these overall music elements in bts.
For example, I was skeptical for a while and I usually lean toward lyricism, alternative rock, indie singer/songwriter type music, or musical theater and pop singers (divas mainly) but not really boybands...but when I learned more about bts and kept hearing all of these surprising songs in their discography and then seeing all the behind the scenes content they have to let us in on their journey and lives as well as how much fun they share...it is like this was a group tailor made to make me geek out about music in general again. idk really how to explain it, but for me it is like they take me back to high school hanging out in front of the choir room singing with my friends and sharing music between us, or to rehearsals and hanging out backstage getting stage makeup on and getting the jitters out before a show...even in the middle of their huge pop careers they keep things very human and center their love for the experience of music and performance in general and they don't just make it about their egos or about stardom or pretend to be all perfect w/out effort, they let us in on the process.
I think in metal there is also a lot of just pure love for the /process/ of music and creativity, playing around within the genre, fun personalities or interesting personas, the 'dorky' aspects of music, the fun of it as well as the lyricism and human stories and expression kind of stripped of ego (or the ego is part of the show and made into performance), an emphasis on the performance aspect...so it makes sense to me that people who like metal may be interested in and connect with what bts are bringing, even if maybe they don't connect with alllll of the aspects of it.
