Saved this video for Christmas Eve here in the U.S. and it did not disappoint! Totally put me in the holiday spirit and I could not stop laughing at Jess's description of the "poop log" HA! Watching these podcasts always makes me feel like I'm hanging out with friends and I'm so glad you started it this year! Merry Christmas!!

Love both your RUclips channel and now this podcast addition. My kiddos have started watching with me, and my girls adore little Hunter! My New Year resolution is to get to take our four kids on adventures while we live here in Alaska (military). Top of the list is dog sledding, whale watching, and taking a glacier tour.

Hi Stephen and Jess and Chloe, thank you again for putting lots of smiles on my face. Talking about traditions was interesting for me this year as my husband died last month so this was our first Christmas without him so we kept some traditions the same and started some new ones but most of all made sure we made it about being with the ones you love. Love hearing and watching your stories. Can't wait to see Hunters first Christmas and more of the van! God bless

in Russia, we don't really celebrate Christmas (some of the families do but on the 6th and 7th of January). Instead, we celebrate the New Year. We sit with our families, eat dinner, drink champagne, and watch the countdown and different old soviet movies. Then some people like to set off fireworks and everyone watches it from the window. Presents are given to kids by Ded Moroz (grandad Frost in English) before or after midnight. And every family has its own traditions, different in every family. Loved the podcast!!

St Nick's day is the best. sometimes prefer it to Christmas. My mum is German and we are going to continue to do it for our babies too. So cute. Jess you should add it to your Christmas traditions :)

Santa would always give out the presents in our household too (they would have to wear the Santa hat) and it would take hours and hours for us to open them all but was such a nice way to do presents. We still do it as adults.

In Spain it is also celebrated on the 6th of January the visit of the 3 wise men who bring the presents to the kids. That same day is typical to eat “roscon de reyes” which is like a cake that has a small present or money inside. It is said that the one who gets the present has to paid the cake 😂. Love the podcast 💚💚

I absolutely looove watching this vlog again a year later! So much to cover! I would love to join you guys on a Christmas Market Expedition! I am SO there already in my mind!!! I also love that Hunter will get her Christmas card this year!
We have Ukrainian and UK traditions in our house on Christmas Eve! We take 2 - 3 days making everything as it is truly a labor of love - this consists of home made Potato Bread Rolls, Cinnamon rolls, Christmas butter cookies dipped in dark chocolate, Chocolate dipped gingerbread cookies, regular sugar cookies (these all have Ukrainian names which I won't confuse you too much with) then we make the savory things such as Borscht with a mushroom homemade type dumpling inside, Fish in the oven, Breaded Shrimp, Tarter sauce, Honey Barley and poppy seed salad and last but definitely not least two of our favorites - what you would know from Poland as Perogies - but these are pronounced much different in the Ukrainian language which are stuffed with a cheesy mashed potato and covered with scorched butter or sour cream on top! It is the most scared of recipes in our family and we absolutely love them! The second last thing was also a desert dumpling pronounced or called, "kinedly" which are the same kind of dumpling but have a sugar plum filling inside again with scorched butter on top - to die for!!!! ❤❤❤❤💖💖💖💖
We would not start to eat until the first star came out at night and if it was cloudy we would wait until it was dark.
Then after dinner we would open 1 present each on Christmas eve and then wait until early morning for the rest after Santa would come! :)

So here writing from Spain! Just to clarify a little bit more about the poop log situation: this poop log lives in the forest during the year and when Christmas season arrives it comes down the mountain and one day (beginning of December) it arrives at your door step; also there are families that go into the forest and search for him when this time of the year arrives. Actually, a lot of people in Spain don't know about this tradition because it's only celebrated in Catalonia, a region in the north of the peninsula. Maybe we'll sent you some videos on Christmas Eve :)

Hi, Sint Nikolas is also a big tradition in the Netherlands. Here he is called Sinterklaas and his helpers are called Piet. It´s on the 5th of december and children put their shoes in front of the fireplace or next to the door. In the shoes are carrots for the horse of Sinterklaas. Sinterklaas and his Pieten come from Spain with a boat and he rides across the rooftops to put presents through the chimney. But secretly the parents take the carrots out and put presents and sweets (pepernoten) in. When the children didnt behave that year parents threaten that you don't get presents and that Piet can come with a bag and take you back to Spain. There's also another tradition where people draw numbers with a person's name on it and buy gifts for each other. The gifts are wrapped in a handcrafted piece, which is called a surprise. You also have to write a poem for the other person and you need to read the poem out loud. This is also done by adults.

Do you all celebrate the 6th of January? We have a tradition in Belgium on 'driekoningen' so the three kings day (refers to the 3 wise men from the Bible who visit baby Jesus). On that day we eat a cake BUT in the cake there is a 'bean' hidden (this is often a small ornament) whoever finds the little bean in their piece of cake is 'king for the day' and gets to wear a crown 👑 (often that's delivered with the cake you get from the bakery)

    • @yayisrv3147
      @yayisrv3147 4 года назад +2

In Mexico, we also eat a special cake called Rosca. There are a few dolls representing baby Jesus hidden inside the cake
(they are around 3-4 cm long). The people who get one baby Jesus have to buy tamales (a Mexican traditional food) on Feb. 2nd (I don’t know why in that specific day) for all the assistants to the gathering that took place on Jan. 6th, so it’s kind of a punishment 😂😂

    Hi Stephen Jess and Cleo.
I'm a South African, regarding the Christmas tradition held here in S.A Mopani worms are a traditional dish for the African ppl. Its not popular amoungst the white ppl here.
Many family's here would eat a traditional Christmas fruit cake, which is famous in S.A. people would also drive around looking at the Christmas light at night or even go to the Botanical gardens / Melrose arch ect where the lights are set up there for families to enjoy. All depending on where in SA they live. We would also make either a big roast like a leg of lamb or also some finger snacks and have the family get together to open presents.

Our Christmas lasts until Jan 6 when we celebrate Epiphany or the Three King's Day. The night before, children fill up a shoe box with grass from the garden with a bowl of water for the camels, and a letter for the Three Kings with the list of toys or gifts you wish to receive.

[Japanese Christmas] Yes, as you guys said, we buy KFC Party Barrel for Christmas. (It was not a tradition in my family though. My mom is a pescatarian) And we eat Christmas cake. Not only plain kind, there are tons of variety for the cake.
KFC starts accepting orders at the beginning of November. From 23rd of December, KFC stores close and they just hand out these orders. I heard a third of KFC Japan's sales is during this time of the year. Family Mart (Japanese convenience stores) started promoting their Fami-ma Chicken (fried chicken) for Christmas, too. Also, In Japan, since Japan is a Buddhist majority country, Christmas doesn't have much religious meanings. It is a pure Hallmark-holiday type holiday. So many people spend time with their boyfriend/girlfriend, as you said. In the 90s, high end hotels in Tokyo used to be all booked up for the Christmas Eve for those who wanted to spend a romantic night with their partners.
By the way, thank you a lot for your hard work to put out your fun videos! Especially this year, your videos brought me A LOT of SMILE and JOY. I hope you can visit Japan with Jess's family soon!🙏Someday, come visit my home town Fukui, Japan. Merry Christmas!🎄🎅🥳❤️

I live in South Africa but my dad’s family is from Denmark so when we are with them we celebrate on the 24th so today(23rd) is my Christmas Eve (god julafrer). So we will celebrate all of our traditions on the 24th, some of our traditions are only opening out presents after dinner and we must dance all around the house to a song and we must sing Christmas carols. We have a traditional danish Christmas dinner which consists of duck, Caramelised potatoes, red cabbage and turkey with stuffing and gravy. I have more but I don’t feel like writing it all out but yip.

South Africa has to many cultures to be specific to what we all do. There is eleven official languages and everyone has a different culture.
My families tradutional is to open one gift on Christmas eve. The next morning we all would wake up and open gifts and then all the external family will come and we would open the gifts we got each other and have a massive lunch where you would be going to bed straight afterwards. 😂 I think South Africa is big on their food. There would be leftovers for the next week. 😂🤦‍♀️

On the eve of St. Nicholas' Day, children leave a shoe or a boot in front of the fireplace or the front door, hoping to wake up to it filled with gifts from Saint Nicholas. Not unlike the idea of Santa Claus leaving coal for naughty children, Saint Nicholas might leave a stick for misbehaving children.
Saint Nicholas Day, also called the Feast of Saint Nicholas, is observed on 6 December or on 5 December in Western Christian countries, and on 19 December in Eastern Christian countries using the old church Calendar. This is a Christian people tradition. In Romania we celebrate him on dec. 6th, and birth of Jesus/Sana Claus ghifting on dec. 25
