    That sucks. I really hope your channel gets more views, I found you through the LS swap video and I think you/your friend has the coolest e92 swap on the internet. Maybe make some more content with that car? I dont know, the way youtube works is really weird, how some people blow up and some people get few views. Its another single turbo guy I watch, who's very knowledgable and also has like no subs and views, I dont get it. Somehow full bolt on guys get all the attention

    Bro that just happened to me, is a shit. I didnt know about this issue with the crack hub in the n54 because is not so common as the s55 engines. Now i had to buy an other entire engine and do the crank hub job to this as is not happening any more. All my support to you bro!

    Get a crank cap kit . It goes over the original crank bolt and locks it in place so it does not spin loose under throttle.

    people need to know 1st mod to do stock or not is upgraded crank hub. mine slipped even though i was stock. damn bmw for making that a weak point. luckily timing is easy to do. new chain with new guides and one piece crank hub is sleep easy nows.

      Seriously though... I even knew it was a thing, but thought "it would be rare anyways since it's not a huge issue on n54's"

    Hey bro did you have the Crank Seal Guard installed when this happened?

  • @BozoBlaster12
    @BozoBlaster12 10 месяцев назад

    So this happened even after you put in the crank capture? Too much torque from the diff? How much HP were you pushing at the time? I'm going single in my e92 automatic, sure I might not need to worry, especially if I'm usually doing rolling pulls but it worries me if this can happen even with one... definitely gonna get one for when I do my seal guard, I've been putting it off since I replaced my power steering pulley (got chewed up from potholes) and fixed my oil filter housing leak, but gonna be doing a major overhaul when swapping the single turbo in so I'm gonna add that to this long list for sure. Still makes me nervous if it can still break and slip the hub. I guess I'll just have to get a moderate tune until I'm ready to completely rebuild the engine and go with a splined or pinned hub.🤔 I don't like seeing fellow n54 friends have any sort of failures but thank you for putting it out there for everyone to be able to learn from these mishaps so it doesn't happen to others, taking one for the n54 team!

    • @BuiltInTheRain
      @BuiltInTheRain  10 месяцев назад

      Yeah, even after the capture. That capture is only there to prevent the bolt from backing out, which wasn't my problem. I've been running the VTT Spline lock without any problems though

    • @BozoBlaster12
      @BozoBlaster12 10 месяцев назад

      Sick, good to know, I just ordered up their valve cover and external pcv system for their Black Friday sales. Do you know or have had any experience with those? I know vtt has a... reputation... but those were probably still the most often purchased and available components. And I also have to say that they look like they would definitely look the nicest..

    Spun a rod bearing on me f30 n55, sent it to be rebuilt. Over 4 months later (covid shit made the shop have to wait on parts) I got it back and local shop reinstalled along with pure stage 2 turbo. 600 miles went by and the car was running super strong, flashed xhp stage 3 after waiting for full break in and drove all day long it felt awesome. Shut it off and literally just started the car the next morning made it 20 ft and I got a power train error.. intake and exhaust cam out of tolerance. Pretty sure she spun the crank hub. Strange part is motor has 0 weird noises, idles and cruises perfectly fine just with reduced power from the dme. Sucks but we'll get the valve cover off and manually check timing. Best case scenario is putting timing back in spec and re torquing crank bolt along with adding a capture plate for further safety although I wish I had the funds to do a pinned hub. Unfortunately I'm $10k+ into the rebuild and ps2 along with other items I replaced for preventative maintenance while engine was out

      What made you go rebuild instead of just buying a new motor?

    • @mustafay4427
      @mustafay4427 2 года назад

      Did you figure out what caused it same thing happened to my buddies big boost n55. Same codes we’re gonna try to retime it and put a new chain tensioner to see if it solves it before redoing the entire timing system. Cars got like 200,000 on it

    • @ashtonreich1154
      @ashtonreich1154 2 года назад

      @@mustafay4427 no I actually haven't yet to be honest, but at this point I'm more inclined to think I broke the valevtronic servomotor/eccentric shaft. We ruled out crank hub because the shop took off valve cover and they confirmed with the special tool that the car was not out of time. Very confusing as the codes have changed since when it first started having a problem. It also got worse when I drove it to the gas station to put new fuel in as well as get a data log for more Intel. For the first time since getting the error codes, it actually started running rough when this whole time it appeared to idle or cruise just fine. Had to end up pulling into parking lot because i wanted to shut it off for a minute, restarted and actually wouldnt even shift into drive, and shifter wasnt lit up even with car running. Towed to shop and see theres oil in the engine bay cant tell exactly where from with only a quick look at it. Have been too busy to continue deal with it and told shop to let it sit until we get a new gameplan. Long story short I think theres apparently the possibility of oil being able to get into a wire harness due to the breaking of servomotor/eccentric shaft and apparently make it down to the dme. Oh also I am now getting about 15 codes talking about canbus errors so it's not looking great. Either way I know I'm spending more money but I just need to fix it and enjoy the new turbo 😅
