As a former Pennsylvanian and a former tech, the under carriage of this vehicle gives me the dry heaves. And you mentioned rock-crawling. Which segway's nicely into my suggestion for the next thing to build. This thing needs a low range transfer-case. Not sure if there's a bolt in solution, or if it would take major mods and many new or modded parts.
Since this is an Overlander. It would be nice to see something that change body line of the car alittle bit more to the offroad type. Like rack for a jerrycan container type on the back or on the sides or a tool rack. It would be really cool to see the back side windows deleted and turn into storage holder that could be acces from inside or outside.
It's great to see you guys supporting this platform. I've been wanting those monoball thrust arms since I got my X5 and I think you just sold me on them! New part suggestions: It would also be nice to have additional options for adjustable rear camber and toe arms. The only decent option currently is hard to get. Subframe spacers would free up some additional lift/droop as well! Off-road coilovers would be super cool. I got a set from FlatOut last year, but still working through some kinks on them and it has not been a good experience. I think there is potential to make BC coilovers work with longer dampers & longer/softer springs - I wish I would have gone this route. I could have used a snorkel through the flooding this morning!
Would really love more videos on the E53. On all your products that upgrade from oem. Really really would make me purchase so much more to have a tutorial from u guys.
I agree, would be nice to have something to get you out of trouble etc without destroying the entire look of the front of the X5. Would be an awesome challenge for design by keeping it as covert as possible, it would definitely attract the attention of many also. Would be also nice to be have the capability of being able to rescue others, instead of being the vehicle reliant on others kindness etc. There are many that would like to get a little more off-road, but reluctant to give up their beloved X5 for a full on 4X4. We bought an X5 recently because of living in the high country in Australia, but we still do a lot of highway traveling, kind of wanted the best of both worlds as a family. After living through the last major bushfires, I’m kind of wishing it had a little more capacity for off-road as a means of escape in emergency. Your video has certainly peaked my interest as this concept has been on my mind of late, great video and design skills, nice to finally see some real world evidence of a new idea brought to life for a vehicle that big 4X4 companies don’t really cater for. Any ideas you come up with that don’t completely destroy the timeless look of the X5 will more than likely be extremely popular, I’m also with you guy’s on “being able to still drive at speed “ 👍🏻 it’s one of the thing’s that make the X5 3.0d so awesome. Another design factor that would be nice to keep in mind for these vehicles, it would be nice to have products that are reasonably cheap to maintain after initial purchase, only because good maintenance on these vehicles isn’t.
The monoballs and harder bushings wether poly or delrin pretty much anywhere you can get them on the thrust arms especially make such a difference on these cars for feel. I ran the moosehead setup on a few e34's along with bumpsteer correctors. Nice difference along with the Ground Controls. Nice solution for the e53 chassis Mike. Thank you for sharing. I'd do a snorkel, bull bars and skid plates.
Enjoying this series, Mike. I've thought about having some custom softer springs made for my E53. I haven't seen any info on the stock spring rates, but I think it'd be interesting to figure that out and work with a custom spring builder to work the road stiffness out of the E53.
Ufff guys, hipe u keep X5 , i have second e53 already and just getting to know all about them more and more.. been really cool to watch this Video! i will follow u guys
Hi Mike. Great content as always. I did some of this stuff maybe 7 or 8 years ago, and using way more old school techniques 😂. Watch out for the alloy suspension arms. They break without warning and leave you stranded.
We don't have a build series planned on the E70, but we are doing development on parts for the E70! We currently have a lift kit available for this platform as well which can be found here: bit.ly/3XUqRQ4
Maybe design a set up front and rear tube bumpers with some tow points and gives you a better angle on decent. Something you can mount some nice off road lights. Maybe make it like an overlander.
+1 on this, I could really use a form fitting bull bar with tow points and LED light mount points. Added rear hitch to use as rear recovery point. Already run 3 peak tires for ski trips, but we're lacking a few things that would take the e53 from good to great snowy mountain driver.
Is Mike going to revolutionize the X5 industry? Will older X5s be harder to find on used lots because everyone is going to build their own overland X5; all because of Mike? Keep it simple and it should do well.
Can't wait to do this on my e70 diesel. Any chance I could get a link to those monoballs? Also a nice low profile roof rack would be awesome! Let me know if you guys ever design one!
Mike, I see you are making a lift kit for the E70 now as well. Is there any development in the works for the F15? I know the E70 and the F15 pretty much share the same suspension so maybe just test fit the E70 kit on an F15? Let me know your thoughts!
How many inches did it lift using the spacers and everything else on this X5? I’m planning to do DIY project on similar model here with my neighbor. And also what’s ur estimate for the price of it and timeframe u got it done? Thanks Mike
Question at 12:15 About loosing at tighten bushing at ride height. I’m trying to add a 30mm lift kit block for a 2011 bmw 135i e82. Will I have to retighten all the suspension bushing after installing lift blocks.
Just got the kit, and the 6 bolts are missing. The bolts that you use at 03:35 to screw the spacer to the rear strut were not in the box... What are these bolt specs? Cuz i feel like finding a replacement will be faster than dealing with customer service...
@ecstuning great, I would like to install the kit on my x5, what is the calibration procedure for the rear airbags after assembly? the calibration is done without difficulty? delivery is possible in France ? thank's :)
You can, but it requires some custom fab work to be done. Mike talks about it in our subscriber idea episode that can be found here: ruclips.net/video/zkA_mzC46fk/видео.html
are these offroad tires any good for winter driving? like if I decided to commute to work on a wet salty mushy snow and ice mix covered road, would I be able to do an emergency stop without rear ending someone?
An all terrain off-road tire will be pretty killer in the snow. A mud terrain like these usually have a pretty large tread block and aren’t great in small amounts of snow. More than an inch or two and they’re great. That said, nothing beats a designated snow tire.
Pointing compressed spring with tool on it toward your body is really a bad idea. I have great respect for your skills so I'm actually quite surprised to see that. It can really ruin your day in a hurry.
“Click” 😂... awesome product! Question. Any issues with front brake hose installation after installing the spacer? Is the OEM brake hose length long enough?
I went with a taller lift on my E53 (yes the inner CVs would bind at full droop) and my brake hoses pulled pretty tight at full droop + full lock. If I did a spacer lift again, I’d dial it back and go with this ECS kit.
Remember to comment what part you think we should create for the X5!
An exhaust system for sure ! 😜
👀🤔
Is it possible to use the same system for an x5/M e70?
Get an e70 and lift it!
@@E70dino I have one but I can't seem find a good lift kit.. not to mention, I'm trying to go 2-3" lift...so..
Lift kit looking good. Next things to install should be a snorkel, a Sherpa rack, bull bar and loads of led light bars.
Skid plates . I have the same spherical bushings on my control arms on my E53 and what a transformation!

Love the subtle lift look!
Might have to get a E53 now lol Hopefully there is a E70 version in the future 🤞🏽 as a suggestion for the E53 a snorkel kit would be cool 🤔
Great video! A hidden winch in the front bumper would be another cool thing to add.

wheel spacers and off-road style fender extensions to give it a meaner look with a modern style front bumper + winch.

Great job on the height sensor linkage! Similar to Johnson Rods on an LR4. Gotta have them for everything to work!
Have you considered making an adjustable set? Perhaps a threaded center part similar to a turnbuckle to adjust for lifts of varying heights.
Hi Mike. Great content as always. I did some of this stuff maybe 7 or 8 years ago, and using way more old school techniques 😂. Watch out for the alloy suspension arms. They break without warning and leave you stranded.
I broke one… but only after drifting into a curb 😅

Any chance of a future E70 build? The M57 off road would be the ultimate luxury off roader imo.

i believe cos ov back doors, hard to figure Fenders and wider stuff.. but would be cool to see something what could put around Arches front and back!

Any good suspension kit should come with alignment specs.
You should make all these parts for an e70 also! Tons of videos and some support for the e53 but next to none for the e70.
Great looking kit! 👌
I would make a hidden winch mount and a front skid plate. What 4wd/awd system do those have. I don't believe they have a low range.
The facelift like his has X-Drive. The early ones had an open center diff in the transfer case
Hi i emailed david, i think a transmission pan skid plate should be next! cheers!
Need a kit for an F25 X3!
Lol definitely need a winch bro. It’s a bmw. Gonna need that at some point to pull it out after it breaks down. #bmwlover

Some E53s come with air suspension on all 4 wheels. I would look for such a kit from a pick and pull and install it instead of spacers

What’s the tire size on that?!
They’re 255/75r17, 32” diameter
Can you or do you make lift kits for X3's I have a 2005 2.5i X3 i want to lift been having troubles finding one ?
locking diffs of that's possible
Doesn't putting larger chunkier tyres mess up the 4x4, and how much are your kits for raising X5 E53
The larger tires fortunately do not interfere with the xDrive
Also, here is the link to the lift kit: bit.ly/3WTW1H5
Have you done an actual ground clearance measurement with the kit? The measurement taken at the diff? Thanks.
What about front air X5’s? No love on a lift for them?
