It seems like Hollywood is going through what the auto industry did. In the 50s and 60s, everything was booming and money was flowing. All the smaller companies had been absorbed into the Big Three. This attracted a lot of bloat and waste. Not just from the auto corporations, but also unions, politicians, and even workers. There seemed to be infinite money...and everyone scrambled to get more of it - legitimately or not.
The industry started churning out products that didn't appeal to consumers. But nothing changed because there really was no competition except between the Big Three...and they just fought little slap fights for marketshare. (Sometimes colluding with each other as well.)
And then, the US market started getting competition from Japanese auto makers that were giving consumers what they wanted. And the US auto industry started to implode.
Will be interesting to see if Hollywood becomes the new Detroit.

Not interesting to see, HollyWoke is the NEW Detroit.
      They are already there.
A key difference this time, is that HollyWoke hasn't done a 180, like the Big 3 did in the mid to late 90s after watching their Market Share Erode over the last 2 decades.
      Why?
Because HollyWoke is backed by not just BIG but MASSIVE Hedge Funds and Asset Managers, such as BlackRock, Vanguard and StateStreet amongst others.
These are TRILLION Dollar Entities with very VERY DEEP Pockets.
Look up Larry Fink. Watch the vid on what he has to say about "Changing" how the Consumer/way we think.

      It is by DESIGN.
      It is about CONTROL.
You will Own Nothing and Be Happy.
While you Eat Bugs and Smile.
      This is their way.
      This is what they do.
They want a Modern Feudal Society, where they INSTALL themselves as "Leaders" and Overlords for Eternity, while you and the masses are nothing more than Serfs.
Read up on Aristotle and his explanation on the different types of Government.
It comes down to 3 that are semi good, going from Good to Not so Good, and then there are 3 Awful, a Evil Mirror Image of it's opposite form going from BAD to Beyond Worst.
As Confucius once said, "May you live in interesting times'
      That's our stop.

    • @Texscripter
      @Texscripter 3 дня назад

A very astute observation. I'd posit that they already are at that point, their infrastructure crumbling yet those in power refuse to acknowledge that they are the problem. I don't remember the Big Three ever insulting their customer base, though - at that level, Hollywood is moving their own version of Detroit to ruin more quickly than anything else.
Like the Big Three, you can't just heave money at something and expect it to magically create ten times as much cash and then act surprised when your consumer base isn't picking up what you're dropping. Hopefully, sooner rather than later, studios will see that chastising and lecturing their fanbase for not buying into their crap, is not a solid business model.

@@RCAvhstape That's what back-room negotiations during the WGA strike actually were about. However, there's actually no additional law required; what the Ho'Wood corporations are doing (use of likeness without permission going forward) is patently illegal.
What's happening, is a virtual equivalent of hiring a Joe Estevez look-alike for a role Martin Sheen is cast for. The "MASSIVE" engine used for the orcs in LotR was pioneering work in making virtual, autonomous animations, but the studios want to be able to create hordes of celebrity characters without actually paying them for using their likeness.
There's going to be a middle ground sooner or later, but the most likely result is that actors which used to be hired for walk-on roles or background characters will now be automated illustrations. It's going to change how actors learn & mature their 'craft' at a minimum.

I live far out in a rural area... so far out, I have to be careful about wild animals walking through my yard at night. I'm also a widow without a lot a friends and family. (sadly, death happens) The Closest real theater is at least 50 miles away. Does anyone think I'd bother to travel that far? Also, I'm an old Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, Superman and Batman fan. I've got spare money to indulge myself for Entertainment's sake. Entertainment is important to the human spirit. We need diversion, amusement and relaxation, we have needed it since we were sitting in our caves at night, listening to the wolves outside, while waiting for the ice age to end.. This 'wokeness mind virus' is ruining everything for me. So does the condemnation of my Christianity and Conservatism by mainstream media and entertainment. All I've got is You Tube and my large collection of DVDS. And, I know I am not alone. I'm going back to the 1940s-1990s for my entertainment.. buying what I can find. I am also watching the luminaries like Gary and Critical Drinker On You-Tube. What shocks me is even while some modern entertainment is bearable, it is frequently also weak, barely amusing, does' live up to it's promise of escapism -- like a soda when the ice has all melted and it's lost it's sting because there is no taste left. They can throw all the money they want to at a project but if it doesn't really entertain, what's the point?
Final point : If Hollywood was smart they would create for both normal people and this "Modern Audience" they keep seeking.

RMB is exactly right. Con's were great in the late 70's and early 80's. The Galacticons and Phantasmacons. So much fun. Cute, smart girls all over. Dealers rooms full of hand made items you had to have. Stage skits put on by your friends! Costumes made by the people wearing them! No sex workers or models!! Writer panels full of your favorite writers. Video rooms showing movies not out for months or shows not available for decades. And the people were cool, not just the cute girls either.

    Something else to note.
When Netflix brought in all these shows from around the world, you met new actors and stories that you would never have seen before.
Do you REALLY think that Lee Jung-jae would have gotten a spot on The Acolyte if Squid Game hadn't have been shown on Netflix?
Also.. The sheer number of people in the west that are now learning Asian languages because of shows that they now love to watch. This is LITERALLY how you start a cultural shift.
