I just wanna say I love the new directions you are taking for your channel. I love your personality and enjoy listening to what you have to say, but listening to all the terrible news coming out all the time can be so draining to listen to, I can only imagine how draining it must be to have to listen to even more and then talk about it at length. I'm glad you're doing things that make you happier and it is stuff that makes me much happier to listen to!

As a father of two kids living in Oklahoma, I am scared for the future but I will never lose hope that everyone will feel safe to live here...

The best part of the film is that they undercut a lot of the conflict and didn't make it about the conflict, though you felt it. It wasn't about how Will was being a terrible friend and huge confessionals, etc. But more the feel of how do you become a good ally, how do you act like a good friend and also had that tension that maybe we all misjudge and prejudge people on appearances. Instead it emphasized the discovery process and what that meant on the basis of the friendship, which then brought the larger emotional heights to the film. It tried to answer a lot of impossible questions which don't have definitive answers, but ended with this is the best way we could answer them, which felt satisfying.

i was pretty ambivalent about this doc, since i had (still kinda have) a preconcieved notion about how out-of-touch Harper's trans experience is to most of ours...
but your descriptions of many scenes made me cry; made me feel like there is still connection and solidarity to be found there, despite that
ty for doing the review 💟

trans experiences outside of the norm are just as valid and are likely to have just as many struggles

Harper is still early in her transition. It took me 4 years to really be comfortable as a trans woman. To feel it. I had much the same experience as Harper. I went on HRT the 29th of September of 2016. And you know what happened a month later right ? Anyway, I was 58 when I started. I'm from Kansas City. So we had a lot in common. + When I was that far along I wouldn't pretty much go anywhere other than a few places like the trans bar in town and the support group and stuff like that. But it does get better.
I kept saying to my wife how much I love this. Show this documentary and how real it was. It would be very nice to have a Will Ferrell with you when you go out in public.

I'm on 🔥. I have been waiting to see it but I don't use Netflix.
I've been living in the closet my entire life, over three decades and traveling as a nomad full-time for nearly six years.
My comment was three pages long and I had to stop for editing.😂😢
So much to say. My experience traveling in the closet has been much different.
I often wonder if it would actually be worse if I was out.
Queer people are not the enemy.
We need to build a stronger community now.
Together face to face, hand in hand, not spread out or alone just wishing and talking about what could or should be, but together spreading the truth and educating the ignorant.
    We need action.
    ✌️💜

Watch this movie two nights ago with my parents. Seem to be pretty eye-opening for at least my mom. I don't think she fully got it. But I think at least explained a little bit better where some of my emotions were coming from.

44:30 If she had transitioned in the 90s she never would have made it to being a writer on SNL. She wouldn't have made this film. Depending on the class privilege of her parents and if they'd supported her or not, she'd be either poor or have a generic job.
If she'd lived in a place with good trans/queer community she might have had a great life though.
But my point is that even if it's not a choice she really had, there was a trade off between career and creative autonomy and personal autonomy.

I am right at the end of the Will and Harper documentary which I wouldn't even have known about if it wasn't for you, it was absolutely fantastic, made me tear up a couple times, thanks for the documentary review, it was nice to see with all the hate and negativity being thrown at our community it's been a little ray of light

I have been curious to hear thoughts on this movie from trans perspectives. Watching some of those moments in bars was nerve wracking and I was concerned that it might not be realistic.

I didn't even know about this movie until you posted this! I definitely want to check it out now, even if it will be a difficult watch in places. I recommended this video to my discord server so more people can hear about it too

Great review. I will try to watch this now. I know what you mean about wanting to make more content about your interests rather than your struggle for existence. This video seems like a good segue from politica to media analysis. I love both, so im thrilled for whatever you make. Most importantly, im thrilled you'll be making more of what makes you happy and fills your cup rather than what drains it. /m

Thank you so much for this video. ❤ In some ways it helped put me at ease.
I’m transmasc nonbinary, early in my transition and I haven’t come out to my family and friends yet. I was close once, I’d gathered the courage to come out, and literally the next day I saw the news about Nex’s death. I live in Oklahoma and seeing something like that happen so close to home just scared the shit out of me. So I bottled everything up again. :( I’m working on finding that courage again but it’s been a long road. Seeing that guy in Meeker be accepting healed me a little. It’s not safe here by any means, but I take solace that there are safe people out there. I’m working to build a kind and accepting community 🩵

Really insightful video- as always. Thanks for covering difficult topics like this, it honestly makes me feel better as a trans person to see other trans people existing and making content. I hope you are able to get to a safer and better state soon- I know you've been wanting to for a bit now. Thanks for posting and stay safe out there. Also, random question if you dont mind sharing, where did you get your cool gamer chair?

41:06 I’ve experienced the same, most people are way more transphobic online than in person (as a visibly trans nonbinary whos always lived in texas) I can certainly think of times people have said direct transphobic bs to my face but people online will twist the whole conversation to start whinging about the they/them in my bio. The irony of them calling us snowflakes is wild

Dragonheart would be such a good start 💟🐉
i looked up films w/ dragons and apparently there's a classic Disney film about a pacifist dragon that i did not know about called, "The Reluctant Dragon" 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hey, Moss…. I wanna say, I like your voice exactly as it is. It feels like a slightly odd thing to say and may not mean much from an internet stranger-
It’s more important that *you* like it! It’s a privilege for me to be here, learning from another person’s POV.

Thanks for making it crystal clear that the constant mantra of "feeling unsafe" comes from ignorance, bigotry and hatred of the working class. People from "Podunk" aren't stupid. People with bad teeth aren't bigots. But you won't stand for anyone taking that message from this film. Thanks for the clarity.

I think these fears are reasonable, many of us come from families like that so we know how people can be. I do appreciate the somewhat hopeful message of the film, just not sure it's a good idea to convey the impression that the anxiety is "all in trans people's heads" while Proud Boys march around Portland and stuff like that. As I mentioned in the video, Oklahoma is where Nex Benedict was killed, so. Obviously not entirely unfounded, those fears

In a show of support for their nonbinary children and their trans fem child-inlaw(me) my in-laws decided to play this documentary when we were visiting for Thanksgiving. Being a trans person living in IN at the sight of Gov Holocomb being pretend nice for the cameras I proceed to excuse myself to go take my HRT but didn't even making it 20ft before crying my eyes out of rage and frustration. My in-laws got to watch me have a full on panic attack at the stress of being trans in IN, a place their older nonbinary child fled to because increasing transphobia in their home state.
Yeah didn't make it that far into the movie.
My in-laws are wonderful supporting of both their kids gender identity. Yes the struggle getting pronouns right but both child just came out this year but I'd don't think they truly understood the fear that their kids face constantly.
