Hey! Just asking, do you have any tips for socially transitioning? I’m already out as bi with a few people but I don’t really know what to say with this one because with bisexuality I was asked if I was bi, by someone who actually is bi. Anyway, could use some tips, thanks! -octo she/her they/them
Remember the “Rainbow Devil” video? At the 8:59 minute mark, the reason they shown that is because there are seven flags that show we are finally allowed to have our rights, meanwhile, the jerk only wanted one confederate flag.
You might be wrong about where on the aromantic spectrum you are (or it might change over time), but it’s extremely unlikely that you’re wrong about being on it at all.
I'm currently using aroace for myself and I'm happy with it. I'm very sure on the ace part, because never in my whole 35 years on this planet have I looked at someone and wanted to kiss/sleep with them. I am very certain on the aro part as well, but I've not been around enough people that I could've fallen in love with. If it turns out I do have the ability to fall in love or I'm demi, then I'll change my label. It's not set in stone and you might discover a new side of you with time. There are people that only use the term queer for themselves, because everything else seems too restrictive. So if you are struggling to find a label, don't stress about it. You are you, no matter what you call yourself. And if a label feels good now, but doesn't anymore in a year or so, keep adjusting it, until you feel comfortable. It doesn't need to be complicated, because in the end it's about how you feel, not what label you give yourself. You are all valid regardless.
It's descriptive, not prescriptive. If something looks to be yellow, it makes sense to call it yellow, even if there's a chance later you bring it into a different light and it looks to be more of a green, you can just update the description as needed. That's how I've described how I feel about being aroace to others when I've been asked.
As a longtime country ball fan (I've even got all my nationalities as country ball plushes, Ireland, EU and the Netherlands) and a recently self-accepted bisexual I love this
These ball memes always make me think of how, in the year 2000, I got a German-flag ball-plushie. (To do with the World Cup at the time, afaik.) It was, afaict, before these memes (which seemed to appear around 2007-2009?), and it did have arms and legs which these memes generally don't. But yeah. Weirdly similar, haha.
Having a conversation about "choosing to be gay or straight" is exactly how my daughter realized she was ace LMAO. She's like "why would someone choose to be gay?" (She's 18 and autistic and has never had a relationship.) So I tried to explain that's not how it worked and you can't control who you find attractive and she just couldn't understand attraction, so I had to explain asexual is a thing too. A week or so later, she's like "so you remember that conversation..."
@know_how_games it wasn't something I'd considered at first. I tried to compare straight attraction not being a choice "so why would gay people have a choice". It was met with a deer in the headlights look. I then decided to explain to her the concept of asexuality and she spent time looking into it on her own. I asked her to feed the cat, and she came into the kitchen and said "hey remember that conversation in the car? I think I'm asexual." She's since come to me and asked more questions about LGBT and asexuality. I'm bi, but I was married to a conservative Christian man for 20 years, so I'm having to explain a lot to my kids for the first time. I'm glad they feel safe coming to me. 💚
sounds a lot like how jaiden (animations) figured out she's ace. spent her whole childhood/adolescence trying to engineer having a crush on someone just to fit in only to eventually realize "ohhhh nobody else has to force it?"
@dietotaku I think my daughter had one crush when she was about 13. But he moved away and she never spoke of him after that 😆🤣 I'll have to ask her about it and see if she even remembers him.
@@dietotaku Same here! When I (cis F) was a teen I "had a crush on" people I'd have zero chance of even being in the same social circle with. Usually music/movie stars so nobody I knew IRL would hold it against me for not saying anything to them. I didn't realize I was ace till my late 20s, so this was 100% a subconscious attempt to fit in with my peers. When teen girls hear "I don't have a crush on anybody" they assume you're shy or hiding something extra spicy (or both), not that it's the actual truth.
I lost, basically, my entire friend group when I came out. Some long term friends pretended to accept me but laughed and teased behind my back. Until, eventually, one of THEIR friends decided to start bullying me and when I pressed my friend on their behavior they took his side. I couldn't stay and walked from the friendship group. One afirming things is - I NEVER trusted that guy and he always gavce me a hard time before even coming out... guess he knew.
I'm proud of you for being able to leave that group, but it must have hurt so much to realize your friends don't love who you really are. I hope you're able to find people who truly care about you. Because the world is filled with them, if you look in the right place. Stay safe
My Mexican grandma is coming up to visit. The last time we saw each other was the first time she saw me post transition and it was awkward. Now she's calling me "mijo" 😊
To those who don't know, the translation is a shortened version of mi hijo, literally "my son" but it's used by both parents and grandparents. Mija is the feminine equivalent.
I feel like the term “swing that way” comes from baseball - people swing either left-handed or right-handed. And sometimes, the ambidextrous switch up how they bat as a strategic move. Similar origin as “batting for the other team.”
People that don't want to use "they" for a singular person, have to use "thou" as well, because singular "you" is a more recent development than singular "they". That being said, I haaaate that my native language is very gendered and doesn't have singular "they" and genders jobs and such... I struggle so much referring to people I don't know the gender of (like artists etc).
That's something I don't like about my native language as well (German), every article is gendered, as well as most job titles, which makes it harder to talk as inclusive as I want to. There is even a whole stupid debate about how and if jobs and so on should be gendered (pushed only from the political right spectrum, but they make it look like the others want to forbade certain words/spellings and so on, while the rights are the only ones talking about it). Funny thing about gendered article in German: the article for girl is neutral (das, usually never used for people except this case) while woman had the feminine. And boys have masculine ones oc.
@@josi_k. I'm German as well! And I'm so glad that, despite me being agender, I don't mind people saying "she" referring to me. I'm fine with any pronouns as I don't particularly vibe with any of them, but I hate that I can't use neutral pronouns for others. Though I mostly think in English anyways and when I see someone I find aesthetically pleasing, I often think "Oh, they look cute/beautiful/adorable" even if they are very masc or fem presenting. Somehow "they" is just the default for me.
Since this is the last video of the year I thought I’d share a story so here it goes: You probably don’t remember me but I was at your book signing in Washington ( I was the one hiding in the corner ) and during the Trans Joy segment I was handed the mic and the first words I said were, “ I’m not trans but.” This however was very VERY not true because in early November I realized that I was, and your book, even just looking at the signatures in it from you and the rest of the people was a HUGE comfort so thank you for existing.
As someone who has studied my own first language at university, I can only laugh every time someone whines about their language being ruined. Language changes all the time, new words are invented or imported, words fade from not being used. Sometimes words even change meaning. Nothing is ruined, it's just not as static as a lot of people want it to be.
My mom deadnamed me and instead of correcting it she just justified it?? Even though she claims she supports me and I was feeling a bit sad, so thanks for the video! Definitely cheered me up :]
I'm so sorry this happened to you! (When I told my parents I wanted to be adressed differently, my Mom offered that I should call her by another name (Willy) if she accidentally deadnamed me and I did that, she got accustomed to my chosen name quickly after that! Maybe you could call her a different name if she doubles down again. )
This gave me flashbacks to when I was having dinner at an ex's mother's house. She was gendering me fine, even saying she related to some of my struggles as a lesbian. But once my partner at the time was in the bathroom, and her mum started talking a bit about the last few years with them, she kept using the wrong name and pronoun and I challenged that. She was like "it's just so hard to remember after so many years using the old names! Besides, why do you care? You're not trans." and I responded saying "because it's about basic respect??" without confirming or denying her statement. Then, she started visibly scrutinising me closer while I ate, while I drank. A few minutes later, she started misgendering me. When I noted that out-loud, she launched-into the exact same excuses about "having to get used to the change". I pointed-out she'd only just met me, and had no problem using my name in our first hour together. She floundered, and blustered, and that was actually the final straw for that ex giving her mum "a chance to get better". We left to go back to her dad's house. On the drive there, she fumed about how she believed her mum's excuses about "trying her best but getting-used to the change"... until she saw her flip on a dime about me. That was the moment which opened her eyes, that it was all just an excuse to get out of putting-in real effort. I'm so sorry your mum is acting in the same way. I've learned many times over the years, anyone who launches into excuses rather than displaying actual contrition is not someone who is on your side. Usually lacking self-insight, and consequently lacking in the capacity for growth. They might be great fun when things go well, but as soon as you have a problem they will flake instead of trying their best.
I went to a state fair once when I was younger and there was an LGBTQ+ booth giving out rainbow and ally pins. When the friend I went with (who was every much not queer and not an ally and was very vocal about it) was in the restroom, I went back to that booth to get a pin. Yeah, we did not stay friends and I did not stay in the closet. But having that little rainbow pin in my pocket made me soo happy.
2:05 well there are basically songs about trans experience or that can feel like it describes the trans experience. There are songs by trans people that literally hit so hard in the feels. Examples being Daughter by Ryan Cassata, The Village by Warbel. I know of others and songs like Son of Man by Phil Collins (some might recognize this from Tarzan the animated movie)
Another good song about being trans is called "Second Puberty" by Jake Edwards. It's mainly about the Trans Male experience, but I highly recommend giving it a listen to!
"Thy" isn't a poetic/religious word. It's the informal, singular version of "your." If you know any Spanish, "thou/thee" is basically the "tu" to you's "usted." It's mostly remembered in a religious and poetic context since it stuck around in Bible translations and hymns for a while after it was no longer in common usage, but when it was put in there it was emphasizing the closeness of God and man. Quakers (my peeps, lol) kept using it for longer, due to their conviction that all humans were equal and deserving of equal respect, though it's not used nowadays because it would just sound weird and not make the same point anymore.
I am aroace and agender, one reason why I had LGBT+ phobic thoughts, because I just didn't understand sexuality and genderidentity, but I always accepted them and now after understanding it, I support them even more.
“How can man be atrackted to men? How can woman be attracted to other woman? HOW CAN ANYONE FIND ANYONE GODAMN ATRACTIVE IN THAT WAY?! PEOPLE ARE STUPID!” /j
Fun fact about new years! In Idaho, there's a potato drop! It's like the NY ball drop, but it's a crane lowering a giant fake potato in front of Idaho's capital and there are a bunch of fireworks behind it. I used to live in Idaho and it's a huge deal over there. Just a nice spud fact for this time of year!
I had a two best friends I stuck with through the absolute trenches of it and when I came out to them, they both became hostile to me and said I would never be happy but they loved me “anyways” but stayed hostile 🙃 one of them just came out herself and she messaged me all excited hoping now we could truly “bond” 💀 I hard turned her down. She was flabbergasted. Like babes we DID bond, that’s why we were friends! You just were an asshole when it was my turn to ask for support!
Yeah, when someone burns a bridge like that they got to at least do some proper introspection and apologise without expectation of automatic forgiveness before I can even consider trying to rebuild the bridge they burnt. People change, but sometimes not as much as they think.
The pin one is such a mood lol. As an ace person I’m not “out” to very many people irl, but I have this swanky pin collection. So any time I want to share a photo of my pin collection and how its grown I have an internal panic that someone is going to mention the 20 or so pride pins interspersed within the collection 😅
If you don’t want to tell people you could say you just thought they looked cool or if they’re more obscure ones you could claim you didn’t know what they meant or smth. Idk just a thought but if you’re ok with explaining then go ahead
Ty for the suggestions! The current plan has been to say that they were gifts from friends (I have a few who would corroborate without a second thought if it were ever brought up to them ;v;). For anything Ace specific, thankfully I doubt anyone would think twice about it since I do fancy purple, but if someone were to mention it my plan is to say “it’s an inside joke from my d&d campaign” and let decide for themselves what that means (I also have a flag that I want to hang up, so that’s where that plan came from lol). Unfortunately I was raised in a very rural community, so the people who I’m comfortable with knowing are those who already know, and those who don't know are probably better off not knowing ;v; That being said, I’m a horrible liar so I cross my fingers and pray it never comes to that ;v;
17:59 this happened to me last night. I was at a restaurant with my family and my moms friend, and naturally, they were teasing me about getting a boyfriend ( Im only attracted to women) our waiter was obviously queer, they had a pride pin on. and right as they were refilling water, my moms friend said “you just haven’t met the right guy, maybe you’re into younger men” and then I had to endure her trying to convince me to do this. I could literally see the waiter trying not to look weirded out 😭
"just haven't found the right one" is exactly how people react to me, straight edge, telling them i don't drink alcohol. not because i'm a recovering alcoholic or anything, i just don't like alcohol. i don't know why i can tell people i don't like the taste of diet sodas and it's fine but if i say i don't like the taste of alcohol it's "YOU JUST HAVEN'T HAD THE RIGHT DRINK YET, TRY THIS." does it have alcohol in it? "yes..." THEN I'M NOT GOING TO LIKE IT.
@@dietotaku same!!! i hate the taste it it makes me gag and my parents are always like "your acting up" and "you wouldn't be doing that if you didn't know"
yah i get it. my grandma kept doing that, and the "you don't know until you have s*x"... until, i described a very VERY detailed description on how i physically and mentally crave women... after that she gave a side eye and didn't ask again
@dietotaku I do drink alcohol, but I can c o m p l e t e l y understand why you don't like it. All alcohol has that certain taste, even the drinks where you "can't taste it." For some things, I'm fine with that taste, (Spiced rum flats out and gives flavour to coke slightly so coke is drinkable to me without watering it down), but for some drinks, usually those with more of the stronger alcohol taste, theyre kinda gross and the only reason i drink is to be drunk/not waste the bottle. (Usually hanging out with certain people). Anyways you are completely valid in not liking the taste at all, from an occasional alcohol drinker
I was in a conversation over Christmas with my parents where out of nowhere they brought up „men who say they are women to compete in sports“. I’m still not prepared for how to have that conversation, I found out. I did get them to agree to using the chosen pronouns of athletes, but that was it. I feel disappointed.
I tend to bring up: 1. The CCES meta-analysis of studies on trans athletes finding no statistically significant advantage. 2. The fact that there are so few trans athletes, most people can't name a single one. 3. The original reason for sports segregation being that women started beating men at their own game. 4. The real issues in women's sports being lack of funding, regulation, and media coverage. 5. The biggest disparity in fairness coming from the economic class of an athlete, not sex or gender. 6. All the issues of actual importance affecting the world, like climate change.
@@FrozEnbyWolf150-b9t 2 LeaThompson I'm spelling the name wrong went from 244 place as a male athlete and won the national competition for the 200 m or something like that I can't remember the exact competition it was pathetic you had this giant male standing next to two tiny females it if you saw them standing on the podium and you didn't want to kick me and Thompson right off the stage there's something wrong with you when you have a 2 ft wide male competing against females
Trans music= songs written by Trans musician about being Trans/ the Trans experience. 😊 for example, the village by Wrabel and This is Home by Cavetown.
me at 12: i think I'm aroace me at 16: she's pretty but i don't think it's a crush @_@ me at 17: yeah im aro it was allonormative culture getting to me in truth i just wanted a best friend😭
Me as a teen: I really hope I'm a lesbian, because guys seem yucky to date! Me at 22: Yay, I have a crush on a girl! Phew! Me at 26: Actually, I'd be okay with never having sex with anyone... Me at 27: God, I'm slow... I'm asexual! Me at 35: Actually, I might be okay with not dating anyone again... Me at 37: I'm good for now! If a girlfriend comes along, I guess that'll work too 🤷🏽♀
"swing that way" is simply another baseball/sports metaphor common in American english like "batting for the other team" and i don't necessarily see any detriment in that although it can be seen as derogatory given that helping the opposition is bad
It’s only bad in the context of a game though and also it’s fine if your just on the other team anyway, that said being trans isn’t in opposition to cis people
The bi-cycle often hits me hard, usually around the times that I end up having to deal with peoples' biphobia. The only thing harder than dealing with the bi-cycle away from biphobes is dealing with the bi-cycle while biphobes are chattering hatred in your ears and making your doubt and questioning of yourself ten times worse... 😒🙄
2:10 Jamie, overanalyzing everything isn't a age-thing, _it's a PhD thing._ Everyone I've ever known with a PhD, which includes myself, _overanalyzes _*_Everything!_* Comes with the training. 😉
@@elaineb7065 Possibly … but then that would make everyone with a PhD autistic? Seriously, everyone who's been in grad school for a PhD, regardless what department or subfield, is trained to analyse everything to the finest level of detail. "Overthinking" becomes second-nature after a while.
Jammidodger videos on reacting to LGBallT memes are like my comfort videos and a treat to myself after a hard time is watching them and it feels like every time I’m having a hard time there’s a LGBallT video that comes out just in time! Thank you Jamie
Sexuality is confusing, man. I know I'm ace, but I get SO confused by other forms of attraction, and people get me all tangled, telling me that finding someone pretty is sexual attraction or whatever. Even worse is the people saying that you can be ace and still experience sexual attraction!
This is kinda off topic but my friend came out to me yesterday (coming out is not a big deal for me, I have never cared about sexuality) and I yust said ok and moved on, I’m now realizing that might have sounded weird, help am I overthinking it?
It might’ve seemed a bit to them like you weren’t recognising the gravitas of the moment, but most likely they were relieved at how you took it and maybe really loved that it didn’t have to be some big thing and they could just get it out there and over with I’m not an expert so don’t take my word for it but that’s what I would say
This year i had an assignment at school where we made editorial cartoons and mine was quite literally that USA on fire lol. But the usa ball was trump. And people were running away.
I’m a semi-religious Conservative/Masorti Jew, and I feel so fortunate that my religiously observant rabbis fully accept me, a gay trans guy. My rabbis (and I) would never touch pork or shellfish or work on Shabbat because, yes, they still follow that 2,000-year-old book, but they would just as surely never intentionally be homophobic or transphobic toward anyone. Coming from that perspective, I really can’t understand why the majority of Christians, who don’t seem to follow most of the Bible because the New Testament supposedly says they don’t have to, have such a big issue with LGBTQ+ people simply existing.
I'm really glad for you, that your religion and rabbis accept you snd queerness in general. Now, as a queer christian I can say that Christianity in itself is not the problem that causes homophobia and transphobia. The "christians" that misinterpreted the words in the bible to justify their behaviour are the problem. Christianity itself is accepting and welcoming everyone, but some people apparently missed the "love everyone like yourself" rule which is the most important one. To sum up: I agree with you, why are some "christians" behaving so awfully in the name of god?
As someone who just figured out things about my own orientation as recently as today, I don't think most of us will ever be finished with our journey of discovery. But we are in this together.
@@missnaomi613 I'm bi too. As well as aegosexual (which is under the ace umbrella) and idemromantic. What I didn't know was that idemromantic was under the aro umbrella. Even though I had the gist, this new context has really helped me.
Took me the longest time to realize why you were talking about cows until I looked at the screen and my brain finally turned on. I’m truly an idiot sometimes.
When people hate who I am or almost worse when they pretend it’s ok but hate it and completely back away. Thank you for all your videos. I always look forward to them. Such a safe place here. Really appreciate you 🏳️⚧️🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈🏳️🌈
Trans Music? You mean the Celest OST? Real talk though, there's 'Angry Lesbian Music' where its sapphic and raw, so maybe Trans Music is sorta the same idea? But I'd love to try and explore this myself.
5:20 i think this guy didn't mean that the guy has to be into him or anything, it's more like he just wanted to get advice / feedback whether he looks attractive. Ofc not everyone that's into men will have the same tastes so it's not necessarily that useful but i think it was meant in a pretty wholesome way
Not so fun fact abt terminology on attraction: In my country who you are attracted to (usually said abt men) is called "prey sceme", like what kind of prey a predator animal prefers from biology. 🙃
Id say for the "trans music" bit, it could either be music that specifically about being trans or stuff that trans ppl find relatable, or it could be music that is popular within the trans community.
@lesbian_baguettewait wait wait wait on jamie’s last video i replied to ur comment saying i wanted to identify as a lesbian baguette I DIDNT REALIZE IT WAS YOU!
Hey Jamie! I’m a trans woman, been out for a year and I’d just like to say I’m so happy and thankful that I found your RUclips channel! I really enjoy a ton of your videos and they give me hope and inspiration in a world filled of hatred against people like myself. Thank you and a happy new year!! ❤❤🏳️⚧️⚧️
17:56 I have made it a standard response to idiots saying something like "I don't use pronouns and you can't make me." by counting the pronouns and replaying "you used 3 pronouns"
14:30 I can so (!) feel that! I am nonbinary and tried that myself, and it made me into the most disheveled and unkempt version of the opposite of my agab. That was one of the biggest disappointments of my online life, definitely.
@Alex-72726 the lot= what you like, you still like the same lot as in you still like men(sorry if that parts wrong) the house=being trans, because you changed/are changing the house to match your inner self... aka transitioning
11:58 I personally am attracted to women. However, I can appreciate the attractiveness of some men. Maybe I'm biromantic, maybe it's just aesthetic attraction. 🏳️⚧️ We shall overcome. 🏳️🌈
18:45 not quite. That's what it mostly gets used as today, but "thou" was originally just an informal second person singular pronoun. So basically it was what you called your family and friends instead of "you".
For trans music, "I don't know if I'm a boy" by Blue Foster pops into mind xd also "Das Universum ist nicht binär" (The universe isn't binary/is nonbinary) by Die Schrottgrenze and the whole album it's on. Oh and the Japanese band Queen Bee/Joubachi, yes, the whole band. 😂 Ooooh the "you just haven't met the right one" bit, gooood, the number of times I got that from family...
My favorite thing with the Genie and the trans person, is the next line "Look, im thrilled at the afirmation and support, but i want the phisical changes" i am failing at wording it, but ive seen the same idea a few times.
18:45 grrr no. “Thy” has no direct relation to poetry-“thy” is one of the possessive forms of “thou” (the other being “thine”: compere “my”/“mine” for the same vowel shift between the possesive forms) which was historically the informal second person singular pronoun; so whereas “you” was the unmarked pronoun reserved for most instances, “thou” (and by extension “thy/thine”) would be used between close friends, from a superior when addressing an “inferior” (that sounds real wrong, doesnt it?) or in insults. This idea of thou/thee/thy/thine being “poetic” is probably caused by the fact that its use is fossilised in the occasional poem from the era, but, in the time that those poems were written, it was a word that was in common use.
my boyfriends brother asked him what his type in women was and then after he just said no to all of them he pulled up a man and was like "is this ur type?" and when he told me i was actualy crying 😭
youtube decided to give me a top sergery advert right underneath this video! thats ironic... whats more ironic is im AMAB so its useless! 😂 (I am Nonbinary though)
I have to share what happened at work today because the timing was too perfect. For context, all of my managers wear name tags with their pronouns on them. Anyway I overheard 2 customers talking and one of them was complaining about the name tag she noticed on the manager that had just helped her, saying things like "I don't get the obsession with pronouns" and "Why would anybody use they for a single person" and my favorite one "You just have to look at a person to know what they are". At the same time, I noticed the a previous customer had forgotten their phone so I called out to my manager and said "Amy, someone left THEIR phone here, I hope THEY come back soon. Hopefully THEY realise before THEY make it to THEIR car." (with the emphasis on the capitalised words). The 2 customers just grabbed the stuff they were trying to bag and walked away. Later my manager asked me why I said it like that and I told her. She said I shouldn't have done that, but she also laughed when I was explaining, so I think l’m okay lol.
I do not see taking over Denmark as having an agenda. They're two separate concepts. We have no agenda. We just want to take over Denmark because we can and it's a really cool place. This has nothing to do with being ace. It just started because of the numbers thing.
5:57 Yeah. If liking men meant you knew what women like, I'd have been able to ask my bi and pan friends long ago and have no longer been a lesbian who has never had a girlfriend.
3:09 never in my life heard anyone be against that terminology. i'm trying really hard to try to wrap my head around how someone could find "swing that way" offensive in any way.
I can totally identify with the Sexuality journey and the spectrum it can be, especially when I was young and focused on fitting myself into boxes to find out who/what I was, as I have grown older, and learned more about the terms, their meanings, and been introduced to new terms, the journey from bi-curious, to demi/flux has been one that's been quite something, as well as the realization in the past decade that I never identified with any gender really, and coming to terms with a non-binary identity.
I wish I can be happy looking forward to the new year, but being an American and knowing what is coming, im just terrified for my safety and well being.
I literally spent a good portion of the day googling what citizenships I'm eligible for in other countries for this exact reason. Here's to hoping we can survive this.
@@RivWritesStuff i wish I could afford to leave. Otherwise i would stay in the Netherlands since it has the best LGBTQ+ protections, and recognizes non-binary as a real gender.
with the 'trans songs' same songs I consider trans are the village by wrabel, scumbag by noahfinnce (kind of its more about trans phobes) and a few others specifically about being trans.
Beside that old song from a French songstress don't like, with lyrics that translate to "Without counterfeiting it, I'm a boy". (And before you ask, no, she never came out as trans.) As for why I don't like her, it's because of her style and how hard she is to understand when she sings. (All because she was using a lot of electronic effects on her voice long before it was in.)
About the swing I guess it's a cultural thing. I've heard of "swing" related idioms used to speak about ambidextrous people (using both hands), bisexual people (attracted by both same and different genders), about "top / bottom / switch" dynamics, about many things I can't even remember right now. There's some with "swing both ways" or "double-edged swords" ... (I can't get out of my head Olenna's quote from Game of Thrones "oh not at all, a sword swallower, through and through" and I guess it's always the same thing, associating sword or power to s*xual activities). To me it doesn't sound homophobic at all but I guess it's always a "context matters" subject. I'd happily say I swing both ways (wink wink) and my friends can probably say that about me, to me, and I'd have fun. But someone I don't know...eeeh... weird, at best, but more about the implied innuendo than because of homo- or biphobia.
Sexuality is weird! For some reason I have always guessed I wasn't straight, but didn’t have any evidence cuz for a really long time I wasn't attracted to anyone who wasn't a man. Therefore I was really hesitant to call me bi. I was so relieved when I had my first crush on a woman. 😂
People talking badly about pronouns is just a way for them to be bigoted, I'm majoring in English studies and it's quite curious how certain words have been changing, bride used to be the word used for the man who was getting married, gay used to mean happy, etc, etc. But these people would rather spread hate on social media than pick up a book.
Ordered the potat!!! Love you Jamie! You gave me the courage to come out to my family. Some were accepting where some weren’t but I’ve never been happier. I’ve known I was trans since I was 17(almost 34 now) and despite the challenges life throws at me I’m happy I’m atleast living my true authentic self. People like you are needed in the world because you give us the courage boost we need to be ourselves. Oh on the record about me being trans I’m MTF
Im doing this on ot's channel so... Day 1 of wholesome lgbtq facts. Fun fact: In Greek mythology, Artemis's clans oath states that they can't fall in love with MEN, meaning all of them are either lesbian or aroace.

I would totally get one of these, but I can’t for personal reasons :(
I hope you're doing well handsome. And I hope you have a wonderful day. Love you.🩵🦋
Remember the “Rainbow Devil” video? At the 8:59 minute mark, the reason they shown that is because there are seven flags that show we are finally allowed to have our rights, meanwhile, the jerk only wanted one confederate flag.
I'm still on the "I'm pretty sure I'm somewhere on the Aromantic spectrum until I figure out otherwise" train
Frr 😭 the aroace spectrum is so confusing, I know I’m somewhere there but idk where
You might be wrong about where on the aromantic spectrum you are (or it might change over time), but it’s extremely unlikely that you’re wrong about being on it at all.
That's why I decided to just go unlabelled on my sexuality
It's descriptive, not prescriptive. If something looks to be yellow, it makes sense to call it yellow, even if there's a chance later you bring it into a different light and it looks to be more of a green, you can just update the description as needed.
That's how I've described how I feel about being aroace to others when I've been asked.
As a longtime country ball fan (I've even got all my nationalities as country ball plushes, Ireland, EU and the Netherlands) and a recently self-accepted bisexual I love this

These ball memes always make me think of how, in the year 2000, I got a German-flag ball-plushie. (To do with the World Cup at the time, afaik.)
It was, afaict, before these memes (which seemed to appear around 2007-2009?), and it did have arms and legs which these memes generally don't.

A week or so later, she's like "so you remember that conversation..."
that's really interesting
I am so sorry about that
Good job getting away from that. I lost so many friends and family by coming out
That’s so depressing and I’m sorry you went through that. Atleast now you can find new, more accepting friends
I'm proud of you for being able to leave that group, but it must have hurt so much to realize your friends don't love who you really are.
I hope you're able to find people who truly care about you. Because the world is filled with them, if you look in the right place. Stay safe
Thank you everyone
My Mexican grandma is coming up to visit. The last time we saw each other was the first time she saw me post transition and it was awkward. Now she's calling me "mijo" 😊
To those who don't know, the translation is a shortened version of mi hijo, literally "my son" but it's used by both parents and grandparents. Mija is the feminine equivalent.
that's great!! hope it gets less awkward
aww i love that, an accepting abuela.
I feel like the term “swing that way” comes from baseball - people swing either left-handed or right-handed. And sometimes, the ambidextrous switch up how they bat as a strategic move. Similar origin as “batting for the other team.”
Straights: uses right hand for baseball
Gay: uses left hand for baseball
Bi: uses both hands for baseball
Ace: doesn't play baseball
love me some strategic bisexuality
Idk why but i was thinking of swing sets (WHICH DOESNT EVEN WORK)
I may have 2 braincells
Fun Fact: The first High-Five was done between Glenn Burke and Dusty Baker, the former of whom was one of the first openly gay professional athletes.
Always thought of it like a pendulum
People that don't want to use "they" for a singular person, have to use "thou" as well, because singular "you" is a more recent development than singular "they".
That being said, I haaaate that my native language is very gendered and doesn't have singular "they" and genders jobs and such... I struggle so much referring to people I don't know the gender of (like artists etc).
Does it have a plural one at least?
I don’t want anyone who refuses to use singular “they” to address me informally, so they should still address me as “you”.
gendered nouns are so funny to me. "sit down in that sexy lady chair and read the manly newspaper."

I'm proud of you for hatching.
@@fozziebean thanks
As someone who has studied my own first language at university, I can only laugh every time someone whines about their language being ruined. Language changes all the time, new words are invented or imported, words fade from not being used. Sometimes words even change meaning.
Nothing is ruined, it's just not as static as a lot of people want it to be.
My mom deadnamed me and instead of correcting it she just justified it?? Even though she claims she supports me and I was feeling a bit sad, so thanks for the video! Definitely cheered me up :]
Please accept some mama hugs.
💙💗🤍💗💙
I'm so sorry this happened to you! (When I told my parents I wanted to be adressed differently, my Mom offered that I should call her by another name (Willy) if she accidentally deadnamed me and I did that, she got accustomed to my chosen name quickly after that! Maybe you could call her a different name if she doubles down again. )
@@sternentigerkatze what a great idea!
My parents don't even try anymore, I've only heard them use my preferred name once (I've been out for 2 years). They also claim to "support" me
This gave me flashbacks to when I was having dinner at an ex's mother's house.

Ty for the suggestions! The current plan has been to say that they were gifts from friends (I have a few who would corroborate without a second thought if it were ever brought up to them ;v;). For anything Ace specific, thankfully I doubt anyone would think twice about it since I do fancy purple, but if someone were to mention it my plan is to say “it’s an inside joke from my d&d campaign” and let decide for themselves what that means (I also have a flag that I want to hang up, so that’s where that plan came from lol).
Unfortunately I was raised in a very rural community, so the people who I’m comfortable with knowing are those who already know, and those who don't know are probably better off not knowing ;v; That being said, I’m a horrible liar so I cross my fingers and pray it never comes to that ;v;

@dietotaku I do drink alcohol, but I can c o m p l e t e l y understand why you don't like it.
All alcohol has that certain taste, even the drinks where you "can't taste it."
For some things, I'm fine with that taste, (Spiced rum flats out and gives flavour to coke slightly so coke is drinkable to me without watering it down),
but for some drinks, usually those with more of the stronger alcohol taste, theyre kinda gross and the only reason i drink is to be drunk/not waste the bottle.
You tried and I think that's all that matters. Hopefully they'll learn and get better. 💛
I tend to bring up:

Not so fun fact abt terminology on attraction: In my country who you are attracted to (usually said abt men) is called "prey sceme", like what kind of prey a predator animal prefers from biology. 🙃
Id say for the "trans music" bit, it could either be music that specifically about being trans or stuff that trans ppl find relatable, or it could be music that is popular within the trans community.
Finishing out the year with the cutest subReddit haha love it
2:07 OR Maybe it’s a pun on ‘Trance’ music?
just came out to some

I DIDNT REALIZE IT WAS YOU!
My transphobic mom is a big fan of Cavetown and im just waiting until she finds out
I, for one, welcome our new Ace overlords.
You shall be spared
Your amiability will be remembered
Yay! Good to know some people will accept our reign peacefully
Hey Jamie! I’m a trans woman, been out for a year and I’d just like to say I’m so happy and thankful that I found your RUclips channel! I really enjoy a ton of your videos and they give me hope and inspiration in a world filled of hatred against people like myself. Thank you and a happy new year!! ❤❤🏳️⚧️⚧️
1:47 I feel like "trans music" is less about trans artists and more about trans topics, like songs such as I/Me /Myself or other songs in that vein.
HOW DID I CATCH THIS LESS THAN A MINUTE AFTER BEING RELEASED
RUclips felt benevolent for a second
10:17 I’m 47 and I felt this one so hard. I’ve come to accept that people are fluid and constantly evolving as we grow and age.
I was homophobic as a kid, now I'm trans and gay 😭👍🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
the lot stayed the same but the house changed.
@kitty79er I'm probably understanding this wrong, but I'm not sure what you mean I'm sorry
@Alex-72726 the lot= what you like, you still like the same lot as in you still like men(sorry if that parts wrong)
the house=being trans, because you changed/are changing the house to match your inner self... aka transitioning
@@kitty79er oh ok 😅 I'm not transitioning yet though ☹️
I said homophobic stuff when I was a teenager, too. But now I'm a bi-sexual adult.

2:04 I consider things like The village from Wrabel as trans music
Yesss it was one of the first trans songs I heard and I felt so heard❤I now have a whole list of trans masc songs
@jaxthetrans2885 May I have it 🥺
I'm not trans but if they're anything like the village I'm most likely going to like it
REAL!

Ooooh the "you just haven't met the right one" bit, gooood, the number of times I got that from family...
My favorite thing with the Genie and the trans person, is the next line "Look, im thrilled at the afirmation and support, but i want the phisical changes"
i am failing at wording it, but ive seen the same idea a few times.
When Jamie and Shaaba eventually have kids Jamie has the dad jokes part down pat already!
Hi, Jamie, I just wanted to share here, I had top surgery today, and it went well!
my boyfriends brother asked him what his type in women was and then after he just said no to all of them he pulled up a man and was like "is this ur type?" and when he told me i was actualy crying 😭
youtube decided to give me a top sergery advert right underneath this video! thats ironic...
whats more ironic is im AMAB so its useless!
16:29 as an American, I have said "ello ello ello" multiple times
5:57 Yeah. If liking men meant you knew what women like, I'd have been able to ask my bi and pan friends long ago and have no longer been a lesbian who has never had a girlfriend.
i think anything from the celeste soundtrack would qualify
AHHH IVE MISSED JAMIE DOING LGBALLT SO MUUUCHHHH
I'm bi and have always said I swing both ways. I don't understand why it's confusing?

Imma say right now, Cavetown makes trans music.
I wish I can be happy looking forward to the new year, but being an American and knowing what is coming, im just terrified for my safety and well being.
🤞 here’s hoping you’ll get thru this alright
I literally spent a good portion of the day googling what citizenships I'm eligible for in other countries for this exact reason. Here's to hoping we can survive this.
@@RivWritesStuff i wish I could afford to leave. Otherwise i would stay in the Netherlands since it has the best LGBTQ+ protections, and recognizes non-binary as a real gender.
Trans music ?
Did you mean *Nightcore* ?
with the 'trans songs' same songs I consider trans are the village by wrabel, scumbag by noahfinnce (kind of its more about trans phobes) and a few others specifically about being trans.
1:47 i urge you to listen to "i/me/myself" by will wood. He's not trans (as far as i know), but that song DEFINITELY is.
Beside that old song from a French songstress don't like, with lyrics that translate to "Without counterfeiting it, I'm a boy". (And before you ask, no, she never came out as trans.)
As for why I don't like her, it's because of her style and how hard she is to understand when she sings. (All because she was using a lot of electronic effects on her voice long before it was in.)
I am soooo grateful I found such a person like you! I love your content very much
As a newly out Ace, you said trans music but I was just listening and not watching and my brain went “Trance music”
Also, people's lifestyle choices and what makes them happy has nothing to do with you and your happiness.
It has been a good year: I found you & Shaaba online
People talking badly about pronouns is just a way for them to be bigoted, I'm majoring in English studies and it's quite curious how certain words have been changing, bride used to be the word used for the man who was getting married, gay used to mean happy, etc, etc. But these people would rather spread hate on social media than pick up a book.

Ordered the potat!!! Love you Jamie! You gave me the courage to come out to my family. Some were accepting where some weren’t but I’ve never been happier.
