Don’t take that bullying. Speak to the teacher, head of the school and have a meeting with the bully’s parents.

Rev. Liz it's not acceptable, you shouldn't accept it. If you don't fight for your children none will. Thandi is too young to deal with this. You should take it up with the head teacher and the teacher involved coz it doesn't stop I'm sorry we can't just hope things will get better. How many years has this been going on. If Thandi is their first mixed race pupil this is an opportunity for you to educate them so they can no longer use ignorance as their excuse. As African women you know how tiring and exhausting it is having to tell people our hair is not a source of entertainment or ridicule, emotionally it's draining so you can't leave this unaddressed for Thandi to be affected.

It’s just Bad. “Evil”was invented by the Church, together with the dEVIL. So was “God” and “Jesus”… and these Catholics/Christians do not “ live by the faith” no sir! , it’s to identify with the religion to show that they are moral or good people. It’s called mass cognitive dissonance coz that’s most Pilipinos.

Don’t be discouraged and stay strong. My daughter is half Chinese and half Black. Living in a big city like Los Angeles there are thousands of mixed raced children of different ethnicities, however my daughter was bullied from the 1st grade up to high school. Her features resembled most of the Japanese girls in her class but her skin color was darker. Her hair was long and kept braided but the texture was different. She was always pointed out as being DIFFERENT. Every new semester I would meet her teacher to introduce myself so they would know who I was. I was active in the school’s PTA , again making my presence known, however there was always one kid that would pester and bully her each year. As an Honor Student with high academic achievements she finally overcame the negativity of being bullied and ultimately succeeded in her quest of being the better person and knowing exactly who and what she is. Love, Education and exposure is key.

It is sad how this keeps happening. It happens to many of us all around the world. I am a 66 year old black woman living in Texas. I had to take my children out of the school system to homeschool them. They graduated from college. Now my daughter is homeschooling my granddaughter. I pray for a hedge of protection over your baby girl. And for all your children because even if they feel accepted, many times they will experience what you and your baby girl do. Keep letting them talk about their pain, and you keep reassuring them that they are the son and daughters of the Most High God. I feel what you are feeling. Keep sharing to help those who care to understand, to understand. God is with you.❤

Only imagine how it will be as they attend high school, college, try to find employment, date/marry. Always feeling like something is wrong with the way they look. They are beautiful inside and out!. Raising children in a healthy nurturing environment is so crucial, their self-esteem is being developed. They deserve the best natural/spiritual foundation possible. All the great parenting you'll have given your Children, don't let those people tear it down..don't make excuses for their behavior..its "shameful". They learn it from home + their community.
When you'll left Kenya...I can only imagine how heartbroken you were. The Children received so much love and affection from your Family and Community..they were happy and "Thriving". Also, if you were to take your new daughter (Briana) to Kenya, im sure the community would embrace and love her all the same..without bias.

@@sharond.5868I guess you didnt hear her say her kids were called Chinko in Kenya? It is funny because no Asian would think they look Filippino let alone Chinese. But I guess Kenyans notice they dont have African noses. The non mixed race Filippino girl will have it harder. That is reality
Africans make fun of Asians too. There are such people in all races.

I believe the teacher meant no harm, she noticed a huge change and asked a simple question...it was a sudden and dramatic change..the children were being mean, not from racism as they are so young, but because the child changed her hair dramatically and they didn't know what to think, it was rude and they need to learn to NOT do that but it wasn't RACISM....why does everyone jump up and start accusing others of hatred? It was children's teasing and playing and being mean.

Like she said the lack of exposure, lack of knowledge of this teacher or teachers, ‘cause I’m sure he/she is not the only one that has never seen or dealt with black person so he/she doesn’t know better. They need to be educated by both mom and dad, the parents of the child who is being a bully need to be educated as well. Hopefully from now on this teacher and the rest will take it upon themselves to learn more about how to better interact with people who are/look “different “

No! Children are born pure and innocent. Something happened in their life for them to look at that particular type of hair and laugh about it. Did you hear what the mother said? The kids are mocking her hair as being ugly! This is not innocent, otherwise they would just be curious and nothing more! The Philippines is a backward country regarding people's mindset, in general. Don't try to sugarcoat it!

  • @paulinagyan7251
    @paulinagyan7251 6 месяцев назад +8

Is it possible to check with the school if you could do a presentation to them about black hair, people etc? For the teacher to ask what happened to her hair tells the lack of cultural competency. Once the adults learn they can influence the kids as well to know how to be accepting of differences.

@WeAreOcampo Laughing at someone for any reason should not be excused. Today it can be hair....tomorrow it will be something else. Children need to be taught kindness and this is a christian teaching. If this is a christian school they need to teach the right values and no matter the differences whether they are exposed or not ...their reaction will always be kind. This is just not acceptable and especially for a christian school that should know better. People are different in a lot of ways and I am not only referring to race here. They need to do better!!! I am really sorry that Thandi had to go through this at just 4 years old. This is just too much. Please protect her as much as you can.

Thank you for being vulnerable. Allot of us deal with it. My son was bullied by a child in his class where that child was telling the other children not to play with him and that he was dumb. He actually is one the brightest in his class but he is also the only Black child. His class is diverse but the other children have similar phenotypes; very fair skin, straight hair. Even though they are Hispanic, white, and Asian. It hurts so much when your child is targeted and it is exhausting to have to deal with that as a parent. Especially as a Christian bc I want to handle it the best way so as not to burn bridges with the parent, and I want my child to learn a lesson from it and build character, but I also want to make sure my child knows I’m going to protect him and handle it. I appreciate your vulnerability. 💜

Can understand what thandi is going through. The teacher can be helpful in this matter. If she explains in detail to the students everything will be fine. I had a student in my class who had a defect, she too was being bullied. After speaking to the students and making them understand that people canbe different but we need to treat everyone with respect n love ,the situation changed .small children are literally like clay it depends how the parents, teachers etc.mould them. Praying God gives grace to teachers to handle things well in schools where differences/bullying prevails and work persistently to make this world a happier place.

A good thing they communicate with you. I sent my son to private school and I did not know he experinced that until he grew up. It was all white school.
Do not give up. You need to keep telling them that they have to protect them selves

I did not know the word of GOD and no one ever told me of my identity in Christ so i took up the identity of all the people who bullied me and believed in it unfortunately i still struggle with this to date but God has been healing me from my past trauma and breaking the strongholds of the lies i believed.

Thandi never forget that YOU ARE fearfully and WONDERFULLY made from your head down to your toes!!❤ Anyone who doesn't see this is controlled by the devil sadly. Pray for them!!!

This just sound like blatant ignorance especially in the face of limited Black's in the Phillipines. The best way to deal with this kind of seeming bullying is by conversation and open dialogs. Praying that God's peace be with you all

It's crazy that this kind if bullying happen at such a young age. My daughter experienced a rude little girl girl very early on in her school years. She is older now and did not have any more experiences like that. I blame it on the parents and the childs enviroment. Mothers and fathers are not teaching their kids to be kind to everyone one. I am so happy and blessed that I have great children thay are kind, not rude or mean. I hate rude and mean people. I guess that's why they are so nice.

Growing up, I was bullied by other Black girls because my hair was thick, wavy and waist length. Theirs was short, thinner and kinky. I dealt with the issue from elementary school through high school. I ever spoke about it to my parents or teachers. Looking back, I wish I had. Here's hoping the problem is dealt with now before it ends up affecting her self-esteem the way bullying affected mine.

Dear Sis, I love you and your family. The Black indigenous Filipinos
aren't treated well there. And I don't remember seeing you wear your Own natural hair since you have moved the Philippines.
The Filipinos in the Arab Countries, treat the Black people there
really bad. Sis to be the poster child for Black beauty is a hard Super hero cape for your precious child to wear. I feel that you are not going to change the racial mindset of the light Filipinos at large. I feel that you should style your children just enough to allow her to more readily fit into the
accepted Filipino standards within reason. All of
Your children are beautiful and super brilliant. You and Pastor have done an exceptional job rearing them.. Love you all and praying for
    you all too.

Your a BEAUTIFUL person, you have God's light within you, go to the teacher, principal, then if no results, the head of the state, you should have an initial meeting with the teachers, having this child that's showing bad behavior and ESPECIALLY THE PARENTS at a meeting together to call out this crap, maybe it'd coming from THEM? I wasn't bulkied but rejected as a child first day of school, dk if the other would have been worse, regardless, bullies are COWARDS that need to be told their place

At least Zuriel came with good news, being told he is handsome. Speak to the teacher about your daughter. I know how you feel, my daughter was for 4 years the only black girl in the whole school and for them here, was a shock to see this type of hair, skin colour etc. For the children is not easy, we really need to be strong for our children and continue to pray with them and encourage them. All this shall pass!

Rev. Liz, the way to deal with in this mixed culture is for the school to really start to have a subject about multiculturalism and diversity so that they are able to understand unity in diversity and mixed races. I am so sorry for this ignorance in the 21 century that we still have to deal with this kind of racism, which show the image of how our societies are unacceptable for others.

lol ya I live in Tagaytay they have a really hard time not laughing, holding nose and making fun of black people. ruff for me as a African American but because my mom is white bmost of the time they think I'm Indian or black and Indian (who Filipino view as the enemy ) a weeks ago I was walking in Serin mall and a group of filipinos working at tech store was holding there nose and laughing at me. unfortunately for him I'm not Indian so when I saw him do that I went up to him and ask him if he had a problem with me and I'm assuming after yelling at him for 5 min he realized I was American. now every time I go to that area he just put his head down. but yah most of the time when I go to the mall or something I hear like 10 people calling me Indian or having a conversation about if I'm black and filipino. holding there nose laughing at me and generally based off my multiple experience if you confront them they will just deny what they did.
the other day I was riding and one of those 3 wheel things with my wife and every time we drove past a person or car the driver he would rub his nose to let them know he has a Indian in the vehicle. after he dropped me off where I have a American flag he stared talking to my wife about how he thought I was Indian and how he likes basketball. needless to say filipinos are pretty racist a lot of the Time but there's really nothing you can do. they are a lot nicer in Cebu region but I'm assuming you husband speaks tagalog. I can't imagine how it would be like going to school. if a see 60 year olds laughing and making fun of non white and filipino people I would assume it would be a lot worse in middle or high school

I have mixed kids, and it's so interesting and creative how children describe themselves and their friends. They use real colors like, peach and caramel, and with hair, it's usually, 'she has big, curly, beautiful hair!' My daughter is half European, and she loves curly hair, although I tell her she has beautiful wavy hair and she should love her own. Honestly, it's the parents, teachers and older generation in Asia that needs to be taught about good behaviour. Kids sadly get bad behavior and discrimination from the adults, and this idea of bullying starts from the home. Plus the standard of beauty is now Korean, which is so distorted (pale skin, straight hair, super perfect glossy skin) esp for a Filipino with dark skin and wavy hair. The younger generation will be the one who will teach the older generation. Mixed celebrities like Apl de Ap, J Rey Soul, Miss Iloilo Alexie Brooks and Alamat's Mo have spoken about this. It'll take a while, but I have hope in the kids, because they will be teaching the older ones.

Sorry about this my sister. I was in a bi-racial marriage and have a child and grandchildren from that union. We are never prepared and seem naive until we are in it. There are so many nuances and differences it can be very hard. I’m sure Sol had similar feelings to deal with for the years you all were in Kenya. It will all be ok, but you must be realistic about the situation and don’t take so many things personally, if you can muster the strength. You can take the land; be brave and very courageous.
