  • Iconic Guitars founder, Kevin Proctor announces layoffs and reorganization on January 19, 2024.
All existing orders will be filled and the business of Iconic Guitars will continue. We must take a brief pause to relocate from our current Carlsbad, CA location. There is a reason this is happening. Please watch the video for a full explanation.
We are very much looking forward to getting out from under this bad situation we have been working under and getting on with the thing we most enjoy, being Iconic Guitars.
Thank you for watching and thank you for you continued support. It is why we do this.

As if I needed another reason to hate B.C. Rich Guitars, this put the final nail in the coffin. Stay strong, Kevin. Tough times don’t last but tough people do.

The builders put their all into making those guitars. These are the ones I want to support.
It's so damned unfortunate that an iconic (no pun intended) name as BC Rich is again dragged through business decisions mud.

@SixStringTV sent me here. Trying to help spread word. Maybe people will buy some guitars from you to help. I can’t believe what happened. You’re an amazing brand and you will come back bigger and better - and hopefully you will be able to eventually hire some people back. I also hope you can sue BC Rich. They shouldn’t be able to place a giant order and then back out after you’ve hired people and moved to accommodate their needs. They need to be held accountable and help with your losses. I’m so sorry. Thanks for being transparent and explaining despite feeling emotional about having to let go of people and move back to a smaller facility. It’s gonna be ok in due time.

Man this sucks. I remember years ago hearing from a boutique amp builder that they purposely avoided doing business with Guitar Center because they feared this exact situation. They'd take on all the risk of spending the money up front to build things that GC could then cancel at any moment. Being a small business trying to scale is just brutal sometimes.

I’m Scott, the paint finisher at Iconic, and we sat in our meeting last Thursday and listened to a personal message Bob Taylor sent to Kevin describing exactly what you did above. Taylor removed GC as a dealer and the result had a major impact on GC, to where they came back begging.
We’ll see how this plays out…we’re down, but definitely not out.

Its smart to do a video like this. It lets the world know you need some help. Lets hope the guitar community responds. At least people know there is an issue. Prayers for you to keep going strong.. Some of the big companies should give you some OEM business to get you through this rough patch... And I would be suing BC Rich and asking for them to fulfill the initial contract as well as punitive damages for grenading your company, lost jobs, stress, etc... A PO is their guarantee to move forward, if you invested in equipment, space, etc then you have been damaged... I follow you guys as I saw you on IG and live in North County...

You have only built a wealth of goodwill and trust with your audience through your words; but mainly through your great work and products. What happened sounds like it was out of your control. I've also been laid off for similar reasons in the past. It sucks, but it's life and good people tend to keep finding ways to stick together. And yes, that other company clearly has a track record for this sort of thing. Maybe those initials have another meaning. Be Careful, could work. I can think of some other word combos. Moving on, I thank you for communicating your heartfelt words. Not every person in your position would do that. You seem like a real one. Someone that would be great to work with. I, along with my fellow musicians, know that you will be back at full strength soon, doing what you love doing.

Much respect to you for putting this out and doing it in one take so there is no editing, just the unvarnished truth.
You can come back from this. It's a great time to find commercial space...and...to renegotiate on the commercial space if the building owner can swing it. Maybe even sharing space with another business there, or renting practice space to bands if you have it. I don't know your set up/space/lease agreement.
Running a small business can be so dicey when you're expanding. Then put CoVid supply issues on top of it.
Keep your ethics in tact. Keep the unfortunate lesson the entitled scumbags leading BC Rich have forced on you. I've heard this industry is a really dirty business, with some really morally bankrupt people, and narcissists, sociopaths, and psychopaths walk amongst us and they lie and easily as they breathe while looking you straight in the eyes knowing they have no intention to keep their end of the bargain.
You're earning the respect of players and others affiliated in this industry with this video. I wish you so well, and look forward to buying one of your guitars in the next few months. I wish I could swing it today.
Moving is *not* cheap. You do what you have to do to save your neck and your business right now. Many warm wishes to you and all your employees.

As a bass player who has only used B.C. Rich Basses since the 80s this is sad to hear. I own between 30~35 Basses but nothing newer that my Beast and Zombie which are 2007ish. All the USA ones i own are from the golden era the 80s when B.C. Rich knew what they were doing. So Sad hearing this about the brand i love so much.

Dave Friedman seems to be having trouble getting the Friedman brand out. I can see Iconic working well with Friedman.

my understanding is that Iconic were building Friedman guitars.

@@davidyates8880 i also think that they didnt market themselves enough. With that what happened was the pricing of the guitars also caught a negative light because there wasnt enough to balance out the other side showing the quality and craftsmanship. The OEM stuff did create the overall problems.

@@anmolatwal I am very fortunate to own a Solana and it really is an exceptional instrument. The build quality is faultless and at the end of the day, it's still cheaper than a custom shop Fender and in my opinion it is a superior guitar. Unfortunately there's lots of people who will only buy a guitar with the usual names on the headstock, and that's always tough to overcome.

@@davidyates8880 i know right, while brands like luxxtone, iconic and wven xotic to some extent are over looked for fenders and suhrs which are great instruments but there are other great options which should not be ignored.

BCRich really needs an owner who would do justice to the bands legacy. I always wanted a BCRich Warlock but the design tweaks the new owners made are ruining it for me. Not being thrustworthy as a company and person is on another level of course.

I heard about this from my close Dave Friedman . I unfortunately have not played an Iconic Guitar. But will be first in line to play and purchase one soon because I believe you will push through this bullshit.

How will this affect the timing in which custom orders are delivered?

I was really pulling for BC Rich but can't seem to get the ball rolling. I'm gonna sell my Shredzilla Prophecy series guitar. I can't believe their horrid business model and lack of filling orders. I'm out. Sorry they screwed your company. Stay positive and move forward.

Sorry to hear this Kevin. I lost everything due to trusting some I shouldn't have in a business deal (after building a multi-million dollar business) and not standing up for myself legally just so I could avoid endless confrontation in the courts. In hindsight ........wrong move. Hopefully there's a legal solution for you?

I find it interesting that this is the second company (Vans aircraft is the other) who had a massive shift and reorganization. I think getting the word out is good because it shows the human side and the guarantee that all
Is not lost. It also is advertising, too. I don’t say this tongue-in-check.

such a dick move. I hope you can recoup at least some of the money by selling the abandoned inventory. I know a lot of us would love to help, even if it's just parts.
