Adam's latest prop replica is of "Le Grand K" a French object vacuum sealed under two bell jars that was the standard reference for the kilogram! In this real-time video, exclusive to our Tested Premium and Patron Members, Adam crafts the base of the display on his lathe.

I... think I prefer the time-laps version. Side note: How is this video hours old, but your pinned comment is 2 months old?
@@justincarawan-carawanco.pu1639 probably because they posted it to members and wrote this with planning to release it to members first and them to the public :)
@@justincarawan-carawanco.pu1639 Video is at least 2 months old, it was PUBLISHED recently, YT shows published time
I do stuff like this for a living and for some reason I sat and watched Adam do the same thing ill be doing at work Monday.
Well atleast you now know that you actually enjoy your job if you're willing to watch it for fun
I think that means your in the right field xD
6:58 dial indicator magnetized to the gearbox, with a segmented arm, and a plexy shield at the end. Easy build, especially if you use cheapies. Perfect for such situations, where chips will want to seek out your eyes like heat seeking missiles.
YES….. because OMG he sticks his hand in there.
He keeps that up and one day he will become “Stumpy Savage”
I would have been ok if he even just used a piece of cardboard..
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who bleeds on my projects. ;) nice video!
For those who don’t know (even though it says it in the description and pinned comment). This is normally a premium video. “Adam Savage in Real Time”.
The stand it self was part of this build: ruclips.net/video/TW1NuVmCCaw/видео.htmlsi=1fK035wlTPXSCaIg
A reminder to NEVER operate a lathe while wearing a ring or a watch. It is VERY dangerous.
perfect ! the Lathe part without the music !
The lathe IS the music! ❤
It makes me very nervous when you put your hand in there as a chips shield! 🥶
Thanks, now I know this is not for me. Take care and thanks for the rest of the channel's content.
Aw yeah, lathe it 'til you make it!
All this ASMR stuff out there and I'm just happy to watch Adam chuck some stuff on the lathe without being pretentious about it haha.
As someone who doesn't work with a lathe, sanding or polishing on it looks terrifying.
I feel like the lathe isn't going to ask at all.
He makes it terrifying, the way he holds the scotchbrite and cloth and also how he reaches across to the back, he is asking to get his hand twisted into the chuck, this is not how smart machinists do it.
@@alanlansdell7533 I usually wrap tape over the chuck teeth and a sponge layer so if I slip it's a soft impact on a smooth curve.
Richlite makes a really great Hardwax oil for finishing their material. I use OSMO Poly-x in general but the Richlite oil is very good and will make these types of projects nice and black!! You're such a great maker Adam. Thank you for all the lessons!!✌️&💙
Hope to see you at Fan Expo Philly today Adam!!!
Great video sir you are awesome engineer 👏 😊😊❤
Love this
When plunging that wide you should leave a little finger just narrower than the insert between dives and then go back turning all the fingers away. That will even wear on the insert and prolong usage.
Please take out your ring when you are using your lathe.
This was so soothing. It's videos like this that really make my membership valuable. Thank you again for doing these.
Earned yourself a de merit plaster badge there my friend lol.
What material is this
16:50 Is that essentially a pilot "ring" for the cut off bit, to keep it from wandering?
Will that material flame polish?
That stuff carves like renshape. Any idea what material that is?
ASMR....Adam Savage Mechanical Routine ❤😂
Hmm ... aren't there some very unsafe things being shown here ?
Nope. It's unsafe if your unskilled or unfocused.
@@yadaroni Most people who have gotten hurt doing this sort of thing probably used to say the same thing. Unfortunately, that's not how safety works
I have to say theres something meditative about this
I really like the tool holder assembly you have. Might you tell me what brand it is?
Don't know about Adam's but I've seen them under the name Multifix (other creators explicitly IIRC)
Thanks🤙
Complete with blood sweat and tiers.
Im no machinist but even I can tell that placing your hand that close or near that spinning part whilst its going is not safe. Please dont do that
Anyone else unable to read “le grand K” without hearing Adam’s fake French accent?
But if this ever changin' world
In which we live in
Leaves you all in a haze
Say live and let lathe
I'm curious what material this is. It machines similar to a dense wood/plastic, but has a lustre similar to cast iron?
Someone down below me mentioned Richlite. I hope we get to see the end result with this polished up :D
I would've guessed delren because he's so fond of it
Is that wood, resin, or stone?
Richlite. Basically cardboard dust and epoxy. Think really hard MDF. (medium density fiber board)
I am not sure why, but I like Adam doing an intro at the start of the videos. Maybe it gives me time to sip on a beverage or maybe I'm just broken. 🤔
Already forgot about the mini safe ? I was really looking forward to seeing that.
are you applying for a job with this clip adam? lol

... here but the "one piece blank is ... about ready /
Absolutely Love that Thumbnail 😘
Sick at home with a migraine seeing an Adam vid: Cool anecdotes and structural engineering talk and a continuation of his Grand K build? Sure i'm in! *clicks*
realise its 23 minutes of metal scraping against metal.
Maybe when i have less of a headache i'll return and give it a watch. but not right now. Hope everyone else enjoys it though.
(note, i know this message will seem sarcastic or nasty for reasons of a lack of non-verbal indicators in scripted text. Im mainly leaving a post in an attempt to offset the damage im about to do to your algorithm by leaving your video unfinished, in hopes that the direct engagement of the comment outweighs, or at least reduces, the impact of leaving the video unfinished.)
Yeah, I have no interest in videos that don't have talking. I have done enough machining and woodworking that the process is irrelevant. I want the theory, explanations like, "why did I chamfer this edge?" Or, "this clearance needs to be such."
Hey Adam I don't have a lathe like this can you build me one from your lathe
It's a rather monotone video of just a mechanical tool running .... but by Golly. Why. Can't. I. Look. Away. From it?!? @.@
May be I am the only one who watches these videos for Adam's commentary, insights, explanations, etc. Not a very good video in that this was not something that would make me want to rush out and become a member.
You can always watch his other content! And the membership isn't just for access to the shop work without commentary. I'm sure either has lots of other perks. There is also that part where its your money! You can do with it as you please, and no one is demanding you get a membership. I hope you have a great day :D
I completely agree with you. I watch Adam's videos for Adam. Not to just watch a lathe go for 20 minutes. This type of content does not make me wish I was a premium member.
"real time" videos - lol, you mean "zero work for editors, just upload whatever the camera caught while standing on a tripod. I'd expect something more as a "premium" feature...
It’s a two dollar membership, and a fringe benefit. It’s more content than you would otherwise have from Adam plus you’re supporting them to create more content.
@@HoveringHog Calling it "premium" membership might be a bit of an overstatement if all you're getting for your two dollars above and beyond what everyone else gets for free is content like this. If I signed up for something branded as "Premium Membership" and all it afforded me was access to this kind of content, I have to be honest, I'd be disappointed. I'm glad I was warned that this is what awaits premium members. I think I'll give it a miss, thanks. Adam doesn't need my two dollars, that much is clear.
filler content
Lazy content much?
It’s a weekend, we are a small team, and we publish every single day.
@@tested yeah, and this doesn't fit your usual quality...
@@SomeGuysGarage I agree this should kinda go on a RAW 2nd channel
keep this for the USUAL A+ stuff hehehe (we are spoiled) thnx Adam
