    Adam's latest prop replica is of "Le Grand K" a French object vacuum sealed under two bell jars that was the standard reference for the kilogram! In this real-time video, exclusive to our Tested Premium and Patron Members, Adam crafts the base of the display on his lathe.

    6:58 dial indicator magnetized to the gearbox, with a segmented arm, and a plexy shield at the end. Easy build, especially if you use cheapies. Perfect for such situations, where chips will want to seek out your eyes like heat seeking missiles.

    As someone who doesn't work with a lathe, sanding or polishing on it looks terrifying.
    I feel like the lathe isn't going to ask at all.

      He makes it terrifying, the way he holds the scotchbrite and cloth and also how he reaches across to the back, he is asking to get his hand twisted into the chuck, this is not how smart machinists do it.

      @@alanlansdell7533 I usually wrap tape over the chuck teeth and a sponge layer so if I slip it's a soft impact on a smooth curve.

    Richlite makes a really great Hardwax oil for finishing their material. I use OSMO Poly-x in general but the Richlite oil is very good and will make these types of projects nice and black!! You're such a great maker Adam. Thank you for all the lessons!!✌️&💙

    When plunging that wide you should leave a little finger just narrower than the insert between dives and then go back turning all the fingers away. That will even wear on the insert and prolong usage.

      Don't know about Adam's but I've seen them under the name Multifix (other creators explicitly IIRC)

    Im no machinist but even I can tell that placing your hand that close or near that spinning part whilst its going is not safe. Please dont do that

    I'm curious what material this is. It machines similar to a dense wood/plastic, but has a lustre similar to cast iron?
    Someone down below me mentioned Richlite. I hope we get to see the end result with this polished up :D

      Richlite. Basically cardboard dust and epoxy. Think really hard MDF. (medium density fiber board)

    Sick at home with a migraine seeing an Adam vid: Cool anecdotes and structural engineering talk and a continuation of his Grand K build? Sure i'm in! *clicks*
    realise its 23 minutes of metal scraping against metal.
    Maybe when i have less of a headache i'll return and give it a watch. but not right now. Hope everyone else enjoys it though.
    (note, i know this message will seem sarcastic or nasty for reasons of a lack of non-verbal indicators in scripted text. Im mainly leaving a post in an attempt to offset the damage im about to do to your algorithm by leaving your video unfinished, in hopes that the direct engagement of the comment outweighs, or at least reduces, the impact of leaving the video unfinished.)

    Yeah, I have no interest in videos that don't have talking. I have done enough machining and woodworking that the process is irrelevant. I want the theory, explanations like, "why did I chamfer this edge?" Or, "this clearance needs to be such."

    May be I am the only one who watches these videos for Adam's commentary, insights, explanations, etc. Not a very good video in that this was not something that would make me want to rush out and become a member.

      You can always watch his other content! And the membership isn't just for access to the shop work without commentary. I'm sure either has lots of other perks. There is also that part where its your money! You can do with it as you please, and no one is demanding you get a membership. I hope you have a great day :D

      I completely agree with you. I watch Adam's videos for Adam. Not to just watch a lathe go for 20 minutes. This type of content does not make me wish I was a premium member.

      It’s a two dollar membership, and a fringe benefit. It’s more content than you would otherwise have from Adam plus you’re supporting them to create more content.

      @@HoveringHog Calling it "premium" membership might be a bit of an overstatement if all you're getting for your two dollars above and beyond what everyone else gets for free is content like this. If I signed up for something branded as "Premium Membership" and all it afforded me was access to this kind of content, I have to be honest, I'd be disappointed. I'm glad I was warned that this is what awaits premium members. I think I'll give it a miss, thanks. Adam doesn't need my two dollars, that much is clear.
