- Fort Desoto is an incredible shelling destination! This 3 part video series will cover shelling at both the North and South beach areas of the park and then share some great jewelry making techniques! Michelle finds rare Wentletrap shells at this location, for the first time ever!
in part 1 we go shelling and beachcomb and encounter live sea urchins...
in part 2, we go shelling some more ON A DIFFERENT PART of the island &, find different shells despite being at the same park

going shelling is VERY physical for me, and usually I am at home laying down for a day or 2 after i go. i push pretty hard sometimes!
and you'd be surprised how much of a work out it is traversing the sand and carrying gear too (water go pro shells all adds up lol!)
I love your comentary as you go along. So many shellers just show what they pick up and sometimes its s😊o fast that I cant even see what it is. You are very entertaining as you explain what you find and talk to the critters. A other thing that i enjoy is how you share the making of your jewelry. Please dont change a thing.

Have you ever used jingle shells for jewelry? I have collected some really great ones, and would love to figure out something to do with them. I am a big fan of 'Tiny's'. I wondered if you've tried to put them in resin? I SO enjoyed this week's adventure! I just love how you find all of these places to shell in the water. On the East Coast the water always seemed to be 'churning' so much that we couldn't see to the bottom. Most of the shells come from the rack lines. I NEVER knew that scallop shells are different on either side! I just love how you also address the wildlife that you see. Also, except for in the Little Mermaid, I have never seen SO MUCH of a hermit crab! That guy was so cool! And those spiney jewel boxes were really great that day! I've never seen so many spikes in such perfect condition. Also, I loved how you pointed out the effects of the tide, and how it changes things.
i haven't used jingles much yet in jewelry - mostly because they are kinda fragile - but i have a big bag i have been saving to potentially make a wind chime kinda thing out of (the kind that you put inside not outside, a windstorm would bust it up i think :) if you like spikes on spiny jewelboxes, stay tuned because i have some fossil ones that are so astonishingly perfect they will knock your socks off in some upcoming footage!

the necklace is rubber silicon tubing - available at craft stores and big online places that sell jewelry supplies :)

people have seen me in the ocean with my walker and come up to me as i get out exclaiming that they have never seen anyone do that before... and i always think to myself why not? the ocean is just a big pool with waves and critters in it :)
One younger fella told me he was watching me bob up and down in the water and though i was in trouble - he was coming out to help me lol, i had to tell him i was only going under water to get sand dollars! :D
