Rough opal from the Heart of Australia - Cuts 2 beautiful gems

  • A customer bought this rough opal a few years ago for $800 and never had the confidence to cut the uncut gem. It just sat on his shelf so he came to me a month ago and said I really don't want to cut it and will probably ruin the gem. I offered a refund on the piece and he returned the opal. Let's see if he would have made a profit? I have confidence in it, so I made a beautiful video to go with it.

It has struck me that I love archaeological documentaries for the same reason I love your work. The sense of entering the unknown and skillfully revealing the story the site has to tell. The analogies of cutting opal are obvious!

I’ve been really enjoying how your videos are becoming-have become-pretty darn high quality, and I for one appreciate the artistry that goes into the making of them; the editing, matching the sound track with the frames, and I especially get a kick out of the humor :) Well done, kudos, and look forward to more in the future ❤

Have learnt so much over the last month Justin.....as a rank beginner grinding away slowly on rough from the ridge 40 years ago....sitting in the shed and garden since.....luckily I watched your tutorials and it did make a great difference......the opals I ground by hand over many days may not be worth much in dollars....but they are treasured my me as the first I have attempted. Just need to polish them ! thanks mate for your tutorials....they are great! kind regards from the Snowy Mountains !
