Sockets in a cupboard are so much better than an out of reach/sight socket behind a fixed in place appliance. Having renovated a house and being a full time boat builder it’s much easier and better to have them accessible! Great content.

Forgot to say Nick. Put a some CEN rated closed shackle padlocks on your unit burglar bar door, those Master lock ones are lacking. Know through experience, even the keys are flimsy.

I always put the sockets for appliances in kitchens the same as you, 73mm holes away next to it and a double socket for appliances to allow plug tops to remain in place (always moulded)

Totally agree with your comment about sockets in cupboards, I always fit them in sink unit/cupboards. Most of the time I’ll fit a grid switch and fit single sockets for the appliances

Hi Nick, great vid as usual mate. On the socket vs fused spur debate, there’s no one size fits all. Each way has pros & cons. It makes me laugh when people make closed statements, you can never make a closed statement. We were always told back when I was in college “closed statements make bad engineers” that’s always stuck with me. As long as it’s safe, compliant and installed to a high standard (which yours always are) then the method is irrelevant. Keep doing you matey, and pay no mind to trivial comments.

In Finland we have no switches or anything for the kitchen appliances. Most of the times the hob extractor fan has a plug and it's hidden behind the fan duct covers. Oven and hob have direct connection.

Talking of painting I watched a video the other day with ceiling lights where the sparky fitted some long plastic clips to hold the down lights about an inch away from the plaster. The painter could then get all the ceiling done without getting it all over the new lights.

Always put the appliance sockets next to the appliance. Also always use a socket rather than a Fused connection unit . As cutting the moulded plug off voids the warranty on most appliances

And I fit sockets in units next to appliances all the time the same way you do. Don't know how anyone has an issue with it, they are accessible to isolate.

Nick , you ever thought of approaching Monster for sponsorship?? You’ve mentioned and shown their product a few times over the time and realistically with the few mentions etc that’s equated to multi million pound advertisement for free . I’m certain if you offered to put their logo on the back of a T-shirt worn on every video they’d sponsor you for a few thousand pounds a month . May be worth dropping them an email containing a video with a mention of their product to convince them it’d be a good business opportunity for you both. And also Adam could contact Maryland for his channels sponsor.

edited to add a note about the switch issue, we've got all our spur cutoff things for stuff in one wall in a line, so the boiler, washing machine, dishwasher, hood, outside security lights and fridge are all in a nice line, hidden away but also easily accessible, i did wonder why they were needed when the kitchen was done 10 or 12 years ago but they are great
