Have done about the same thing. Got a FXR years ago... rode it and traded it in years ago. After a FXD a Vrod and a FXDI i went back to the FXR. The engine is beeing rebuild right now. Little leak near the nosecone. The FXR fits me so much better. I ride it as much as i can. But now winter is comming and i want to spend that season fixing and polishing the bike. Keep up the good work bro. Evo for ever.. 😊
The reason the FXR frame is a great frame is the design and engineering behind it…. If you notice the side profile of the bike there’s a triangle that is formed to the frame front of the swing arm…. It is that feature that makes that frame very STRONG and stable. Rock on FXR.😎
Exactly, I had a 90 FXRS and 94 FXLR, both new bikes, you sit down in an FXR, the DYNA always felt like I was sitting on top of the bike, not down in it like the FXR’s.
“In a humid day in August I feel like I’m abusing it.” *laughs in Florida* I’m whipping a 1999 FXRP for the last few weeks and I’m in love with her. It’s my first Harley but I don’t see myself ever owning a different bike after this. It does everything.
If I did this I'd be probably lost in technical details, the fact I owned it 12 years, etc etc. This dude summed it up so much better in saying taking your bike somewhere no matter what is 100x more fun then a car. At the end of the day that's what really matters.
I have a blue 85 FXRS Low Glide in Bay Ridge BK 19,000 miles, mostly stock. I am in the middle of changing the trans seals and the sprocket shaft oil seal. Tapered main shaft, finger clutch releases. I keep a spare clutch finger because they have broken on me before. Easy enough fix on the street. Buckhorns, rides nice.
Love my 89 fxr. Turn down offers a lot. One thing, thunder header stripped out and broke off a couple of my nose cone screws. She rips with slash cut mufflers. Rivera pro clutch was a definite plus and legend rear shocks for my big ass.. work great
That triangular side cover is hella sexy. Never in my lifetime would I ever own or get a chance to own an FXR. But to see someone else rocking them is pretty rad.
@@jimmyrustles8118 Honestly I think I would do the TC swap over the 111 - It's been a plan for a while to have Bad Foot do a 88 CI TC drivetrain swap with my 88 FXR
@FXDLS Brooklyn he's the man for sure, helped me out heaps with his vids. The 88s are smooth af and rev happy. For comparison, a v111 here costs like $12k now and I picked up a fresh 88 (stock) for $500. Gotta ball on a budget.
@@jimmyrustles8118 Yeah man, if it weren't for the fact that I have so much fun with an 80CI Evo, I would consider it, but I do feel like an 88 CI TC with a cam would be more than enough for that frame - I get my hot rod kicks out through my 124 dyna
Dude, I'm cool with the nostalgia. I'm a Dyna Bro through and through though. Don't get me wrong, I eat all kinds of shit at the buffet. I also have a knuckle. An 02 lowrider. A 57 ironhead in a stretched paco frame. Goofy footed, magneto, springer and king and queen seat. Gotta get a pan head and a bagger just to round out my collection. A panhead chopper is definitely the bucket list dream for me, too many other projects happening - Anyway, sounds like you have a pretty solid garage out there
The only thing that bothers me is finding parts when you need them. I keep going back to the 1200 sportster because it still gives you that great sound, it's lighter and more nimble to get in and out of traffic and parts are easily accessible.
Oh he's so right about the fastest way to learn something is when the alternative is death! I stopped in Illinois on the FXRP coming back from the flat track races in Iowa, it was your basic interstate strip mall and Walmarts exit for gas. Flat land for miles, while at the gas station the weather turns from warm to cold to hail and the locals go ape shit, running into the gas station for gas and hauling ass out, the station owner locks the door behind me and leaves, it's obvious there's a tornado near by. I don't normally care, I come Midwestern stock where a tornado means drinking beer and standing on the front porch of your trailer looking casual, but I'm on the bike and none of the locals are inviting me to a potential shelter, this was before I had a smart phone or potential weather app. My instincts are to GTFO, but the FXRP starter switch is like "nah bruh"... I never beat on a solenoid so hard. ..obviously I got it going but I literally got home that evening and drilled a hole in the starter relay cover so I could start it with a pencil. Great and entertaining interview! I'll have to go back and watch my older Indian Larry footage, I'm fairly certain I captured this FXR on video! So much good philosophy captured on film!
That is an insane story - Not that I have had anything that intense happen, but this is the reason why I installed the override switch for the solenoid on my DX when we had to replace the starter about a year back
Last I looked rooms were still available, I know I heard about your fxr, totally sucks but if you can make it on your Dyna that’s be fine, if my fxr ain’t back together I’ll be on my Dyna or my roadking too.
