    Game gets a lot easier once you defeat the Chosen (and to lesser extent rulers). Early game a Chosen can really screw your mission. Late game they're dead.

    You forgot to mention one important aspect. In each alien difficulty step aliens come with set gear and never change/upgrade it to the end of the game. For example, humanoid soldiers come with laser weapons at the start so they're much advanced than our rookies. Mutons come with plasma but without any weapon upgrades and so on. So after getting same type of weapons our soldiers outclass aliens by shear amount of abilities and upgrades

    Just popping by to say that because of your guides, I finally started and then completed Commander difficulty without feeling overwhelmed. Really grateful for all this, now to try the ironman version and then Legendary.
    This video surmises my experience on both Veteran and Commander. Once I got Plasma beam cannon and was forced to defeat the Assassin early (MAJ and CAPT rather than COL and MAJ) I became quite confident of winning the run to the point.

    Huh, I am playing XCOM2 for the first time (w/o any prior XCOM experience whatsoever) and already past the early mid-game phase (mutons, shieldbearers, vipers; at mid-late May now), and I found the game to be a breeze! I only lost one Squaddie so far in a mission against 2 mutons + 1 MEC. I didn't know mutons have plasma grenades and sacrificed the Squaddie to tank a shot for a wounded Sergeant.

      Hey Jaiiy,
      that is great to hear. Good luck to you commander.

    Def felt this in my first run on Veteran. I didn't know what I was doing in terms of my out of battle management and came dangerously close to facing Archons with base weapons. I did a little research and quickly got my shit together with weapon upgrades, the rest just sort of fell into place from there. Doing Commander now feels pretty good and rushing magnetic this time made things so much more bearable. Iron Man is still a bit too stressful for my blood but it could happen soon.

    • @SykenPlays
      @SykenPlays  Год назад +1

      I agree that the game does not help in explaining just how important weapon upgrades are. The devs just assume that you can understand how important they are. It limits the research approach a bit, because there are a few „essential“ upgrades.

    Agreed, the early game (especially the very first mission tbh, I've had it go terribly for me many times simply because of bad RNG and having such low AIM stat) is the hardest to survive.
    Once you get up to Magnetic Weapons, the balance of power evens out and by the time you have beam weapons and a bunch of Colonels it's practically easy mode barring truly awful RNG.

    • @SykenPlays
      @SykenPlays  2 года назад +2

      Yes, the early game is difficult, although it is key to simply stick to your research (specifically weapons and armor) and eventually you will catch-up with the aliens.

    Alien power level, solider rank, and research are the main factors

    I think high level troops is one of the biggest power spikes aswell ,especially war of the chosen where you can have a Ranger that can run round and kill every enemy in one turn and be unkillable die to untouchable

    • @SykenPlays

      True, in the end-game it is much easier, since you have a broader set of tools available.

    I fought the Viper King in my 3rd and 4th missions and I already got Berserker Queen in my 5th. Bruh. The game gets a lot harder if you keep the additional content unticked.

    • @Shiftry87
      @Shiftry87 2 года назад

      True but Rulers and Shen´s gift DLC are not balanced around WOTC progression so thats why they should be left to the default settings so they dont pop up way to early. U can still go and fight the first ruler early. Assuming that blacksite dosent spawn half way across the world ofc.

      @@Shiftry87 I didn't play WOTC though. It was just the normal game and I got absolutely wrecked. The game is unbalanced af and not even some veteran Xcom players know about this

      @@dazeen9591 Same goes for the original Xcom2. The game is not balanced around having those settings unticked and it even says in there description when u start the game that unticking them is not balanced and not the way the game was supposed to be played.

    Curious to know if the same applies to XCom EW as well? I'm playing with no savescum and my runs end in March/April to Portent mission or landed UFO a lot :P

      If you do have really messed up runs, feel free to send them to me (syken.plays@gmail.com)
      Besides that to answer your question: It very much applies as well, but to a different extend. Assuming that you have not lost your soldiers and got meld and some weapons, the game becomes very much easier towards the endgame there as well.

  • @Shiftry87
    @Shiftry87 2 года назад +2

    Imo the biggest power jump in the game dosent come from a weapons tier upgrade but instead from the plated armore research and then equiping your squad with Predator armore. Weapons upgrade are big not denying that but before Predator armore u are very limited in the equipment that u can bring to any mission. Before Predator armore, every soldier have to remove there grenade in favor of something else. (Grenadier excluded) Also if u bring a Reaper they cant equip anything before Predator armore so u lose even more. The ability to have every soldier destroy cover and shred armore is probably the best tactical ability in the game. So by the time that u no longer have to sacrifice a grenade for an ammo type or a utility item your squads power curve goes way up.

    • @SykenPlays

      You raise good points, the armor upgrade certainly helps

    Actually many games have this reversed difficulty curve. Almost any RPG has the same problem. And yes, this is a problem. I don't know why so many studios implement it this way. This curve is the main reason why I often decide to not finish a game. When there is no challenge anymore - the game becomes very boring and there is no reason to finish it. Especially when this is not the 1st time (when the story could keep you from leaveing).

    • @SykenPlays
      @SykenPlays  Год назад

      I can see the problem. It requires a game that has much more mechanics in store for the later parts. Typically, a game tries to showcase its best parts in the first 2 hours to keep the players motivated. I can see both sides of the argument.

      @@SykenPlays There is also the fact that most people only play a game once. If you had not played XCOM 2 before you would make many decisions which are suboptimal which leads to a weaker late-game. Whereas on easier difficulties you can take a few hits in the early game and still survive.
