My younger brother and I loved his scene in the movie, especially when the older coach gets all mad and yells “Randy Floyd! Whats the deal with coaches in the US? Is that their only job, to coach one team, or do they coach many teams? Do they have other tasks to perform (e.g. teaching?).
@@7greggy I'm not american but football coaches are big deals, I'm pretty sure it's its own thing. College football coaches are the highest paid public workers, making like 50 times more than the Governor. I guess running one play team matters are alot more than running a state
The coaches don't really care about him; They are on him because he is a star quarterback and using him as their meal ticket. If Floyd broke his arm or something they would eventually turn on him or ignore him. You could see how the coach badmouths "that other crowd" Floyd hangs out with. Why don't they give those students a written pledge also? Because Slater and them aren't on the team and aren't seen as valuable. He doesn't even bat an eye towards Wooderson, a former football player at the same high school, at the end of the movie.

Coach was looking out for Randy. They had a serious shot at winning a championship in the fall of '76. A great senior season would've bestowed him a scholarship. Imagine if he excels in college and makes it to the pros. He likely would have been drafted around 1980. Being an NFL QB in the 80's would've provided Randall with a great living and he could build a legacy for himself while also getting paid significantly more than he would have in another career.
What Pink doesn’t realize is that he will go from Hero to Zero and lose his so called friends and even the real ones for turning his back on them over the dumb pledge that no one on the team takes seriously anyway. No more parties, no more babes, no more buddies.
He would just lose the fake friends on the football team, the ones he didn't really like, anyway (like O'Banion and Benny). Pink was also in some of the honors classes and was friends with Tony, Mike and Cynthia. He also liked hanging out with the stoners like Slater and Pickford.
plus he also wasn't a mindless zombie, doing what the coach said so that the coach wouldn't lose his job. in other words, pink was his own person and thought about what he wanted. but the coach saw that and didn't like that one bit. little did he know, the whole team was drinking and partying.
Jadyn yeah you can also tell the coach was just trying to look out for him too because he knew he had talent I’m just starting to see that looking back because Donnie was there but the coach didn’t really care
@@nast3282 I mean stuff is more complex than a 10 second scene. If these were real people, the coach would have been interacting with them all year. Maybe Donnie is reliable and Pink has an attitude all the time.
@@hansolo631 Well it’s a team. And he’s the quarterback so some say you’re only as good as your quarterback. If I was coach I’d probably be like that too. Lots of his peers depend on him, which they address in the movie.
