  • Why do we need a Likert scale? Let's assume you have formulated a hypothesis in which a variable that cannot be measured directly, a so-called latent variable, occurs. So how do you measure this variable in your questionnaire?
Latent variables are, for example, physical well-being or environmental awareness. Why are these variables not directly measurable? Of course, you could simply ask in your questionnaire, "What is your level of environmental awareness?"
However, you will find it very difficult or very inaccurate to measure environmental awareness with just this one question, because environmental awareness consists of several dimensions.
In order to be able to adequately measure latent variables such as environmental awareness, likert scales are now used.

Hi, as you told likert scale data is ordinal, is it possible to convert it into interval data by using summated rating scale concept? Can we use parametric tests on likert scale data if it is ordinal data? Pls do a detailed video for analysis of likert scale data along with citation of reliable bibliography please, thank you in advance

Hi Shankaar, I just looked into a different video where the referent refers to that topic.
      ruclips.net/video/i1RG6zoySa4/видео.html
Basically, he says as soon as there are >6 likert scale questions, there is an argument in the literature advocating the use of parametric tests. However, thats not the case for the analysis of individual likert scales, e.g. if you just have one likert scale question in your survey. cheers :)

The mean value across questions, per user, seems like an odd thing to do.
