Interestingly enough, Professor Washington's introduction excludes that institution (UCSC. On the other hand, I would not blame her at all, given its ongoing self destruction. You've introduced discussion of greed which opens to my mind many other doors I.e. value/quality of life & consumer discernment; clutter & shopping obsessions; consumer priorities ( 12 pairs of black shoes, for example, but no savings, insurance or retirement funds for oneself or for one's family); huge disparity between fiscal habits of the hourly worker vs the affluent and the rich given the billion $ GNP year-over-year. segment of econony that represents Blacks/Latinx etc. buying power ( cosmetics, clothing, shoes etc.) and how that economic gear can be moved to demand change fueled those corporate interests with greater access and power. Everyone has power! It's just a matter of the direction that power comes from (The top or from the bottom -- Amd. McCraven -- book, Make Your Bed -- says it's not the size of the "flippers" but rather the size of the heart that determines a person's success.) Find your body of work sublime and music to my soul!

My thought is that as an academician and educator you introduce comparative consideration exercises. In other words, make the change you seek! Have curriculums that explore the issues, and that consider outcomes of alternative lyric choices. Curriculum needs updating in disciplines like Journalism, Oral Communications, spectrum of visual media, English, History -- everywhere -- to address the fibres of exclusion and racism at there core. This exposes whites to their " white fragility" issue and white supremacy as well as gives Blacks and aware Latinx forums for expression and reduction of repressed energy due to utter frustration and fear of addressing this elephant in every room we inhabit. I agree with your suggestion it us sorely needed consequent to the "trinity" frame of reference. Harriet Tubman, Ida B. Wells, Dr. King, et al..did not toil and act for all of us to abdicate our roles as spirit of American culture. We must know our strength, it's sources forged through the fire and hard knocks lives, and approach solutions from that context. It's our game from that stage. When we use white folks' stages, we end up as clowns / buffoons because that's not our truth, our core. Prince is to my knowledge one of first musical artists to step up to full control of his creative product and brand; marketing genius! Mae West may have been 1st artist BTW. I believe Russell Simmons or Run DMC wrote a book on industry/how to develop a business, and I would imagine Jay Z's book includes information on this as well. Betcha this man could use a business mentor. Good sources are substance free/recovered former business managers of huge stars, in retirement, who wish to be of service. For example, perhaps Herbie Hancock's former manager might be a resource. There are others for that list I would imagine from my exposure in L.A. (areas where musicians hang). Word of mouth is how that search would be employed. Look toward non-predators-- that will be a short list. Worth the search. In meantime, Artist's Way -- book & group, as well as Business Debtors Anonymous are also helpful resources. Support groups are generally a great source of networking support for most issues. Bone of us r issued a how to do life handbook at birth. So, none of know how to do anything until we attempt to act, make mistakes and begin to draw the learning curve using information obtained from education. Educators provide keys to knowledge for students to take and find the locks to open the desired doors. Agree that "hustling" / criminality is a sell out solution for all the street smarts and entrepreneurial skills and drive to leave disadvantaged circumstances struggling people have! Yeah... she is preaching but people can not hear her... we seem to be unable to see this or do not want to see whats going on in our communities... but the world is so backwards as a whole smh... it is unbelievable...
