"Dioko Ha Agape". 1 Corinthians 14:1 Can literally mean "Persecute love". Dioko is the word Jesus used when he asked Saul why he was "dioko" him. It is this use of "follow" that paul choses to express how we should pursue Love. It's a different word for follow. Stronger. Love is the ONLY gift we're told to "dioko". Love is the greatest gift. So let us all earnestly pursue, intensely chase, diligently hunt down, Love.

Unless circumstances, just absolutely dictated search, I would not go to a church that believed that the gifts have ceased. I might visit, but I would not regularly attend. If a pastor believed that the gifts had ceased, unless he was a very open individual, I wouldn’t even try to convince him. I would just get out of there and go somewhere else. I know that sounds mean, but it is what it is. he probably knows all of the arguments and all of that, and especially if you are a lay person, he probably wouldn’t be open to hearing. He might, but I probably wouldn’t risk it.

Also the gifts of the Spirit are by "grace," and grace and gift are very similar words in the Greek: "charis" and "charisma." The point is both are granted by God and are not drummed up by will, though our faith and obedience is always involved. The Reformed view by "grace alone" is misleading. Nothing the Spirit does can be ungracious. But we need to separate the gift from the container:
"We have this treasure in an earthen vessel, that the excellency of the power may be of God and not us."

Almost at the end of the show, Roundtree (usually a great teacher) allowed his "reformed theology" to come out with an incorrect Calvinistic interpretation of both 'election' and 'predestination.' Also, please note that the words "God's sovereignty" are not found in scriptures.

@@Logic807 you know, something I literally just learned is that the name Elohim is a plural name but it was used with a singular verb in the Bible. This would let the ancient Hebrews know that God was both plural and singular at the same time. They may not have known about the three-in-one Concepts yet oh, but they definitely knew that God was both plural and singular at the same time. Also, the New Testament makes it very clear that Jesus is both the Son of God and God and that the holy spirit is God's spirit. So there are three persons in one God. Feel free to ask me any questions and I may be able to point you to some good Bible verses. It may not say trinity in the Bible, but the concept is there.

About the 30 minute mark. I agree that loudness does not equate to anointing or authority. It is not how loud you are. But let me say this. You don’t have to be quiet either. Some of us just sometimes like to be loud! Lol another thing is this, in my experience, which is not the barometer of truth, sometimes, when ministering deliverance, you really have to be firm and sometimes you may get a bit animated. Hey hey hey hey, hey! You are not in charge! I did not ask your opinion! You were evicted in the mighty name of the Lord Jesus Christ! Not saying it is always that way, but some demons are stubborn, and quite frankly, it can be annoying. This sounds kind of funny, but it seems like when I get kind of perturbed and annoyed, I seem to be the most effective. Lol it’s like this is not a negotiation, this is a command, and a demand in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth so buggy, on up out of there, in the mighty name of Jesus. One of the things that bothers me is that some continuationist, because I don’t want to seem Penecostal, wanna make us always so meek and mild All the time. What’s up with that? I can be quiet, and sometimes I am, but sometimes I’m not. Some of you all can go to ball games and scream, your heads off, but when it comes to the kingdom, you want to be so quiet so you don’t look Penecostal or bombastic. Anyhow… That’s a bit of a pet peeve that I have. I know some people tend to be more into hype And sensationalism, and they bring a reproach, but it bothers me that some people tend to think that loudness, authoritativeness, and a strong personality automatically seems to equate with hype and sensationalism. When you do enough deliverance, you tend to realize that it is not a one size fits all prospect, and you might start to realize that it’s not always bad to get a little bit animated every once in a while. Just thought I would put that out there.

Excellent discussion and wisdom, as always. I've been a full-gospel Christian for 48 years and I must say I have ZERO tolerance for the hard-core Cessationist. I have my share of flaws but I will state categorically that such person has the gift of pride in abundance. Period. In such a position, such person is continually flirting with, if not committing, blasphemy against the Holy Spirit: that supernatural giftings and resultant events are happening in reality cannot be denied; the cessationist, in maintaining his or her cessationist position is left with little choice but to credit the Devil. Sick and twisted.
Here's a prediction: cessationist churches are going to wither and die as (formerly) Cessationist Christians realize they are woefully ill-equipped, disconnected, and powerless to deal with what is coming upon the earth.

    • @chaynaemslie3957

Woah, as someone who just recently changed sides to continuationist, I couldn’t disagree more. The dying out part, yeah, I think they’ll have a higher “withering rate”. If I didn’t have continuationists who spoke to me with patience and really demonstrations, I would never have switched sides. The people in the church I grew up in are dedicated lovers of Jesus and the word of God. There’s a lense in which verses are filtered through, and you don’t realize it’s there until you’re either in the other side of it, or you experience the opposite. I can still Biblically explain why the gifts shouldn’t exist, and I can also now explain even better why they have continued on. I know the Scriptures well, and have a lot of it memorized thanks to my roots. Learn to have patience for those people. Many times they will go for it 1010% when they become convinced. To say they can’t be convinced is limiting the Holy Spirit.

  • @carlosreira2189

In the live chat, we're seeing the same sorts of arguments and confusion about the gifts. Ok, first lets exalt love (chapter 13) and walk in that, while not being "ignorant of the spiritual things" (chapter 12).
    1. If Pentecostals were all wrong to a man, it does not make Pentecostalism wrong, just suspect to a degree!
    a. That speaking in tongues is THE evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit is wrong and unscriptural. Power to witness and other things might be evidence.
    b. If Pentecostals are filled with pride, they are wrong, but pride is not found only in Pentecostalism. All of us should "walk as he walked."
    c. Various Pentecostal traditions were being worked out as the revivalists of the early 20th century saw things happen. Later these things became enshrined, hoping to not lose what they had found. This endless revivalism still goes on, the Spirit coming and going. Whether this is actually what the Spirit does or disobedience, or some degree of both, I'm not qualified to say, and wonder if anyone can. The point is:
    2. What the Spirit does is not an exact science!
    3. We know the nine "manifestations" of the gift (singular) of the Spirit. There are also:
    a. "giftS" (plural) of healing, and Paul mentions this phrase 3 times
    b. the gifts are for the upbuilding of the body, not personal exaltation or God forbid, financial gain
    c. prophecy is to be sought after, so that the members may be edified and comforted
    4. Prophecy is subject to the control of the prophet to some extent, but not the content of the message which is of the Spirit (or useless and to be rejected), likewise, we may assume
    5. Divine empowerment does not subsume human will and responsibility in any case.
Even without the so-called gifts, God retains what the Calvinists like to call "sovereignty" and can always heal someone from His end without any prayer or human action. There may be other miracles. And there may be false manifestations, though I am not witness to these. I have only heard. Therefore, discernment, prayer, confirmation (God does not mind confirming his word, though he may rebuke your unbelief a bit!), and the company of the saints (in the multitude of counselors is safety), these are all scriptural and good.
"How much more will your Father in heaven give:
    1. Good gifts
    2. The Holy Spirit
    to those who ask."
Have I said all things correctly. I hope so. Comments welcome.

Given Jesus stepped in and dealt with the demon, logically if the disciples had been doing what they were supposed to be doing, Jesus would not have had to step in to ensure God's will was carried out - the healing of the person. Jesus' words to them strongly imply they were at fault rather than anything to do with Him having special authority (even though I know He does have special authority!)
I too struggle with the whole charismatic thing. I see no reason why the gifts etc should not have continued after the apostles, so intellectually Im pretty much convinced, plus the testimony of many people from all different cultures cannot be dismissed (a well-respected New Testament scholar Craig Blomberg has written about some of his own and his family's experiences in his book 'Can we still believe the Bible'). @@michaelmiller5024That's fair, but in the current climate there is a serious issue with the phenomenon of manifesting things, typically worldly desires. There is also a dangerous link to the "name it and claim it" teachers.
I always go back to 1 John 5.14. We need to ensure that all our requests to God are exactly that. We ask, we don't tell. We ask in faith, knowing all goodness comes from Him, but we accept when the thing we desire doesn't fall into His will.
