I am a native speaker of English who speaks fluent standard Italian. I was once traveling to Italy sitting next to a native born Australian. Because of his thick Australian accent, I was having difficulty understanding him. Gratefully, he too spoke Italian, so without letting him know the real reason, I suggested we switched to Italian, since I needed the “practice.” It worked perfectly.! 😂
Ok, but what about the video?
@@icefalls The subject of the video dealt with the various accents in which the Italian language is spoken in Italy, particularly in Northern Italy, and Southern Italy.
The purpose of my remarks was to show that English is also spoken with various accents, and sometimes it’s difficult to understand.
I related my story in order to show how in one particular instance, I solved the problem by speaking standard Italian. This was the language in which both of us were able to communicate. There were no concerns about different accents since we both spoke standard Italian with the Toscana inflection and pronunciation.
I am sorry you were unable to understand my comments which may have required upper level thinking skills, which apparently you do not have.
@@giovanniserafino1731 You sound like a conceited person. Probably a septic tank.
"As if you were carrying a huge rucksack full of stones." Absolutely hilarious... and very, very true!
Oh my goodness, my Sicilian great aunt Annamaria just spoke from the grave! I absolutely love regional American accents, so hearing these Italian ones is just delightful!
Thanks for the laugh especially with the Sicilian accent!
Am an italian with b2 level of English and your accents are unbelievable , you do perfect tones
She nailed it hehe. The north is a very posh accent, the center is very heavy and strongly pronounced and the south is more melodic. I also feel like the further north you go words get longer. The further south words get shorter and then Sicilian is a whole other language. There are so many different linguistic influences.
I'm Italian (I'm not exactly sicilian) but your sicilian accent is very funny, almost calabrian in some moments! 🤣🤣🤣
Good job!! 👍👍👍
She is catanzarisi 😂😂
The trick is amazing! I known someone from Sicily who speaks like that, so she is legitimate! Her French and Spanish impersonations are great too, not to mention German, ja! 😎
Where are those accents?
Excellent imitations of the three accents! Brava!
I once met an Australian lady, one of whose parents was from Northern Italy and one from Southern Italy. In addition to English, she spoke two dialects of Italian!
Which ones?
@@IlCinemaro I don't know. I don't think she specified which ones.
Spaziale come cambi accento da un momento all’altro ahaha complimenti!!
Bravissima! I can't even do it in Italian 😁
WOW Bravissima! sai ricreare anche accenti di altre regioni? mi sono divertito molto
They all sound great.
Once I was following a youtuber based in Australia whose English was perfect except for a really heavy Italian accent. After 2 minutes I decided she had to be from Rome. In the end I found out I was right!
Pretty accurate, but being Milanese I would not describe our accent as "posh", it's actually quite coarse and dry. 😊
Brava Maddalena! :)
I work with several Italian colleagues (our working language is usually English) and this is so on point! I had noticed these differences between individual people but now I think I will be able to start recognizing which broad region of Italy someone is - as can also be done with Northern German accent vs Southern German accent in English.
I prefer the Roman accent. It's the cutest.
My God 🤦♂
@@antoniodimperio2418 the roman dialect is the best with no doubt.
Sicilian accent almost sounds like a Greek one
Agree
Bravissimo!
Bravissima. She is a girl, so adjectives end with a.
è meravigliosa ahahah
Notevolissima !
Funny thing, the Sicilian accent on here sounds more like a Catania one, rather than a Palermo one. That's quite natural, considering most Italians are exposed to "eastern Sicilian" more, due to some popular tv series
I recognized it immediately because my grandma was from Catania :D
I disagree, it sounds more from central Sicily
What tv series?
In un commento dicono che sembra di Catanzaro, ed è vero! 😂😂
Bravissima
No ma, BRAVISSIMAAA
Nice . It's funny how an italian person ever has it's own regional accent as he speaks italian or another language... and, another italian person can recognize it...
The last accent was that of Zlavoj Zizek.
milanese: "figa"
romano: "ao"
siciliano: "minchia"
I'm in the US and used to work with a guy whose father was born in Pisa in the early 1900's and that the father said once that he was bothered when he heard Italian spoken without a Latin accent. This comment fascinated me and I wish I could have asked him what that means or for an example of the difference. My coworker couldn't remember what his father meant by this after so many years.
I feel like the Sicilian needed more “u’s” and “g’s,” judging by my relatives.
I can't understand the roman accent at all. But I learned Italian in napoli so that is probably the problem.
I thought we were gonna get the accent _in Italian_, not English. :/
This was fun too though.
sicilian sounds most beautiful
Have you ever heard of english sounds?
It's a pity very few italian accents are heard outside Italy, so that, for example, in movies any italian usually has Sicilian accent. You can hear dozens of different accents in Italy. In Puglia there are zones where the accent sounds like arab. And in Trentino they sound like they were speaking german. But there are really counless accents because Italy was just a bunch of nations until less than a couple of centuries ago
I met a lot of Italians and they all have a southern accent… rarely a Milano accent or Roma accent.
historically southern italians are the ones most prone to travel, almost exclusively for work cause work is the one thing southern italy lacks. Rome and up (or in some cases, Napoli and up) are usually better off so people from there don't need to migrate as much
Maybe because they are Southern Italians?
Vorrei sentire l'accento bergamasco
Nothing wrong with Milan accent, but Rome is cool, too.
Milan is like a french speaking italian 😂
@@mathewvanostin7118 lol
They super hawt
I love this but your accent is absolutely American, not just a bit.
With the Sicilian accent you sound a bit like my mate from north India.
Why are you doing Italian accents in English?
cause she sounds great and people enjoy it
Most milanese people don't speak with that posh accent lol.
Explaining Italian accents while speaking English and not Italian, it's the dumbest thing ever. lol
Maddalena is doing impressions of how Italians sound when speaking English, depending on what region of Italy they're from. Watching the full interview where this clip was pulled from titled "Mamma Mia! Decode Italian Hand Gestures, Accents and Onomatopoeias with Polyglot Artist from Rome" will give more context.
It actually is interesting, if you speak both languages you can definitely perceive in English the most significant differences that there would be when speaking Italian. Very brave, I approve this
Really? Why? I think it’s interesting and funny. I have a friend from Rome, I plan to send this to him. It’s your comment that the “dumbest thing ever.” No, I take that back. It’s just dumb.
She actually nailed it so stfu
your comment is the dumbest thing ever
Accents exist in every country. Sorry I know Italians feel things like dialects and inflation only relate to Italy but it is worldwide. I still love Italy but remember you are special.
Nobody is saying the opposite in fact, you are in a channel about the Italian colture so why shouldn't we talk about Italy 🤷♂️
Man is you butthurt. Also, did you know that italian dialects are different languages before commenting this😂 did you think they were as similar as american and english? They're barely mutually intelligible!
Nobody said that only italians have dialects and no italian think that.. Stop drinking
we know it
@@gabrielemangialavori8732 I meet too many Italians who think inflation and stagnant income and accents or dialects are only an issue in Italy ... This Italian had clearly never traveled.
Bravissima, penso che tu possa fare l’attrice. 👍
Ué ti, fa minga el barlafus!
they have this accent, FIGA!
Loved this episode 😃 we found your channel thanks to Maddalena and we love it! 🌻

Thanks for letting me know! 🥰
