you know i just wanna learn finger drumming and i wanna be able to play my own beats with these mpd ..im not a super dj so its perfect for me..i mean hey 18 knobs and 48 knobs aren't bad i just have to work on my skill a bit
word, i sold all my launchpad gear and swapped it for this MPD218 and korg air. Really love the 218 in combination with my ipad. Also this controller has 16 pads which you can set to a channel. So on paper you have 6 dial buttons x3 = 18 time the 16 channels = 288.
Man I was kinda scared to pull the trigger on this thing cuz of all the issues I heard about it but your video gave me some what of a confirmation that I shouldn't be scared and I should get one for myself.
@@FFriday I did get it and it's totally usable. No obvious issues. The pad sensitivity is good, though I wish they were a little more sensitive for lighter ghost notes but over all good.
@@FFriday Just make sure to buy the warranty for it in case something goes wrong down the line. Oh and have to mention, I haven't tried any of the knobs on it, whether they sync up with my DAW so I can't comment on that.
I am the DJ for a Limp Bizkit tribute and want to incorporate this pad into my DJ controller for live sound. I have a DDJ Rev-1 and use Serato for my software. How can I incorporate this into my live sound set up to where I can map samples (mainly synths)?
For some reason, my MPD218 no longer remembers the MIDI Map that I just loaded. I save the preset and load it to the hardware, but as soon as I open my DAW (Reaper), it forgets the MIDI Map. Any ideas on how to fix this?
Are the pads the same as the LPD8? I had that and it was the biggest piece of trash. Sensitivity was horrible, I hit one pad and the one next to it would play… it was unplayable. I might have thrown it away because I couldn’t return it. Makes me think twice before ever buying Akai again.
Hi, i want to buy mpd 218 but idk can i use it without activating it on akai website, and also im scared of pad problems like when you hit one pad other triggers too, sorry for my english
Activation is not mandatory, but I believe you will need to do it to access the free software. If you’re buying one new, I would expect the pads to function as advertised. If you’re buying resale, it’s kind of a toss up. I never had triggering issues with either of the 2 MPD218s that I bought.
Thank you for the video. I am a total newbie wanting to make boom bap style hip hop as a hobby only. I am not a musician and will be 100% sample based. I thought about the MPC Studio II, but the MPD 218 might be an option for me. Will it work seamlessly with FL Studio? Thank you.
I have the mpk mini and the pads are just about useless for me. They are all over the place and you have to hit them so hard to get them to register that you almost break the controller. Any advice? Is it a setup thing or just the nature of how their pads work?
What about ghost notes and pad issues about sensibility? I saw a huge amount of bad reviews over the years getting worse the quality of Akai MPD series, and to get worse here in Brasil we dont have return law, and warranty services are almost non for imported products. Im very concerned buying this cuz Dollar is 5x1 plus import taxes 60%, imagine that here a product like this I will pay 1.800,00 believe me or not.
I have an MPD and it is awesome with IOS / Koala. I mostly sample my from my keyboards when I’m not using my laptop. I am looking at an oxygen pro mini instead of the MPK. I like the wheels instead of the joystick and I need more keys.
I really like the look of this unit - but I don't want to play live with a tablet/laptop. Is there anything remotely like this out there that's standalone for playing samples? Or any way to use this unit WITHOUT being plugged into a computer-device. Any suggestions?
Love your videos. You have been very helpful in helping me get back started and choosing hardware and daws/apps. Quick two/three part question, can I use the MPD226 the same, what’s the difference between the two? And can I have the MPD218 or 226 and the MPK mini plus connected to my iPad/beatmaker 3 at the same time? Using the at the same time. One for drums and the other just for the keys for other plugin sounds. I’m an old school hardware guy that’s just getting back into things and would love the use of both simultaneously in beatmaker 3. Thank you Sir.
Is this compatible for non apple laptops 🤔 I know nothing about best machines. I'm purchasing for my lil bro who wants to start creating and producing. Thanks in advance
Hi. Not many who liked this video? That's strange because the video is one of the best for this particular model. I asked myself why I still did not like your video? Think about this: It is not modern and cool to use the word DOPE so frequently. It DID bother me so much that I didn't press the like button even if the video was on of the best for this model.
an amplifier? no, this thing sends no audio signals, only midi(pitch, velocity, channel) this can be used to control a synthesizer(the thing that actually creates sounds).
I feel stupid because i never understood why anyone would want endless encoders, and then you explained it around 2:40 and im like "...omg... all these years... i never thought about this?" 😂
I saw one of these in a pawn shop for $60, I'm going back to see if its still there
😂
did you get it ?

Nice! Yeah the amount of mappable pads is pretty wild!
Extremely helpful for nubee like myself. Thank you very much.
I feel like the mpg is the best just because key players can play leads bases and chords as well as do drums and knob controls at the same time in 1

Glad you’re still positive about the MPD218. It’s ideal for iOS music production. 👍
Agreed! Was definitely a solid purchase!
Thanks I’m looking for something good but affordable to do some finger drumming on my iPad and MacBook

It's over 9 years old at this point. I'm worried that I'll buy one, and then an upgraded mk2 version comes out a couple months later.

Would this be compatible with an Apple Mac ??
ello, i have one question? What do you think about seaboard block or other seaboards? Can i learn piano with seaboard block or i select cme xkey?
What ipad you have on thus video and what did you use to conect controller to ipad... i make music on ipad also
What is cheapest Akai controller with included MPC Studio license?

The MPC
This, or LPD8 MKII?
Can the pads be switched to constant lighting in a certain color (i.e. even when not pressed, to differentiate drums)?
Can this be connected into a guitar pedal looper?
Just a curious question does the AKAI MPD 218 work with numark platinum fx dj controller?

I’m just getting into making drums on my own. I generally write heavier music. Would this be good to write drums? I use Logic Pro X too if that helps
