Hey guys, like cool boats, action and adventure? Check out our new Sister Channel: South Pointe Boats here --> ruclips.net/channel/UC22yFUh57N2neBlC11YvjPw You'll love it!
Those wings look like they're ready to pack their bags and take off. I highly doubt anyone knows what the wing load is like and where the limit actually is.
I find myself wondering... "What ... exactly... is the theoretical range of a friggin jet powered glider?" One would think it could go one hell of a long way. I'm also betting that type of aircraft takes most of the sting out of the call.. "Pan Pan... I'm at 10,000 feet and I've lost power to my engine". "Confirm Delta Fox Echo.. do you need vector to the nearest airport?".... ... ... "Na.. anything in Nebraska should be fine". ... ... "Sir.. Your're in Nevada".
This makes a great plane to travel in. Get it up there with the jet and glide and climb and glide and so on. More peaceful then the constant drone of traditional planes.
Not enough to have a Beautiful Glider, they had to add a Jet engine to it and fly it amazingly, even upside down! Wow, Amazing guys and gals! Thumbs Way Up!
keithskillz90210 Thx, yeah, definitely a cool plane - had fun filming it. Not sure what other applications the engine can been used for but it looks versatile.
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motor_glider My VJ-24w only has a glide ratio of 1:15 with the motor at idle and the prop spin / zero drag. Its no 'eta' but its got a retro thing going for it. Just a stepping stone to get my feet wet riding the cloud streets.
That is a beautiful and aesthetically pleasing routine, and a sock in the eye to pilots who place high g sensation above elegance when displaying, which can become tedious after a while. That is a very pretty glider only marginally made uglier by the jet engine. It just shows that high G maneouvres are not the only watchable thing about air displays. I love the shape of the wings and, rarely, the V tail actually works. Until battery weight problems are overcome, small jet engines are a very good solution to sustained glider flying. Imagine a very small, highly efficient jet engine which provides a little more power than the currently best self-sustainers with cumbersome pylons and internal combustion engines that add a lot of weight. Surely micro jets (if quiet ones can be made) are the way to go.
They'll probably never be quiet or efficient at this scale (to get thrust without much noise, you need to move more air more slowly. Propellors and high-bypass turbofans are good for this, and it's not something a small-diameter turbine can accomplish). But you could certainly isolate some of the noise so that it's not so unpleasant while in the glider, and only use it for short periods.
It's actually flying well beyond its original VNE but it's highly modified with structural fortification to handle the increased stress from the engine.
M M The plane got highly modified with structural and stress fortifications to accommodate the engine. It isn't the 'off the shelf' sailplane version that gets towed to altitude.
***** I was just making reference here because I couldn't think of another U2 pilot, seeing how the U2 is basically just a glider w/jet-power... But if you know the man & his method, I'll take your word.
My concern while watching and cringing during tjis video is that a glider has straight edge wings. It seems like a lot of shear force on the wings that it wasn't designed for. I kept waiting for one of the wings to snap off.
Mach1Airspace thanks for responding... I should have guessed that. That makes total sense. It was amazing to watch, now I can watch it again and relax and enjoy it :-)
+CHOPPERGIRL AIRWAR With no Engine, these gliders can go to heights exceeding 50,000 feet !! There is a new Record Attempt going for 90,000 feet or more.. To the edge of Space !!!
+CHOPPERGIRL AIRWAR You'd need a pressure suit to find out - the limiting factor would be the air density to run the jet engine??? Now if you had a hydrogen peroxide fed rocket motor putting out a similar thrust ready to fire when the jet flamed out - and could afford the weight of the rocket (minimal) and say 100# of fuel - I'd think well over 100,000 feet would be fairly easily attainable. ...at some point, re-entry would be the limiting factor!
Tej Parker: Please tell me, that's not a Pontiac Fiero strapped to a rocket engine? Earl: Impressive, I know. Tej Parker: No. No, that's not impressive. Fast and Furious 9 came early...
I would imagine so. They used to drop rudimentary firebombs & grenades from later versions of the 1909 Wright Military Flyer, so I'm sure with a little ingenuity installing a drop & release mechanism on an advanced Jet Glider shouldn't be too hard. Why? Having issues with the in-laws? Lol.
Doesn't this defeat the purpose of a glider? I thought the glider was invented so that you can feel free of engine noise with only the sound of the wind.
***** I think I might have spoken to soon. Just notice they're retractable, in that case it makes sense to not have a plane pull you up. My original thought was, you couldn't turn off the engine.
That's like comparing a high school diploma to a PHD. The prop is mainly for take-offs and return to altitude. The jet engine is for high powered acrobatics, 200 mph down angle runs, straight vertical climbs and 3x the flight time. Easier? Maybe, but so what!
+Mach1Airspace haha i completely agree, my response was more aimed towards the original comment, anyone thats concerned about the glide ratio should just get one with a prop
I'll be out around the 23rd. Hoping to check out in the Bonusjet. I have a week of flying with Jason S. Starting the 26th. See you soon. Check out my RUclips channel.
very cool. surprised on the length of flight with fuel on a small glider. saltos are neat- been around a long time. what is the L/D without the engine? what year was that model made?
The Salto has clean an L/D of say 34-35. The engine adds drag. The condition where the flow through the engine is not dragging nor trusting, the L/D would be around 30; see the engine drag as a second fuselage. With a shut-down engine, the flow-through is blocked, this creates drag. L/D say 25?
I know the wings are flexible and are affected by the G-forces, but from 2:40 I thought to see some flutter too. As well as minor flutter in other shots.

The want is strong with this one. The clean, smooth simplicity of a jet, and the ability to shut down and glide peacefully.
It's like a civilian version of the u2
That flight looks like more fun than one person should be allowed to have. Glider aerobatics with a energy surplus? Too cool Bob. You lucky dog.

Made me chuckle 😂
Not with a Salto... basically it is stunt derivative of a Libelle standard, made by Glassflügel in Germany.
Paul C But it can still extend the range dramatically.
Twelve Wing Productions Bahahahahahaha
The rangers are ready 600 km without a motor depending on weather with a skilled pilot in the summertime
This makes a great plane to travel in. Get it up there with the jet and glide and climb and glide and so on. More peaceful then the constant drone of traditional planes.
Civilian U2?? definitely got those wings flexing!!!
This is amazing WOW. I'm just confused why there aren't more of this. Seems like a no brainer
Not enough to have a Beautiful Glider, they had to add a Jet engine to it and fly it amazingly, even upside down! Wow, Amazing guys and gals! Thumbs Way Up!
The pbs Tj100 engine has many uses that comes to mind.
NightQuart home made cruise missile?
The climbing ability is incredible
This is so cool and scary at the same time, during the entire video I was like "Wing load, Wing Load, WING LOAD, W I N G L O A D"
This is AWESOME
Sometimes you really need an engine when the thermals collapse.
The secret is in the wings ...a flying wings shoulld be the appropriate name for this cutie
This gives freedom a whole new meaning 😂😂😂😂✊🏻👍🏻👌🏻💪🏻
🇬🇧
A complete hoot to watch. Love it!
this is beautiful:,)
New fav sailplane
What??? Really?? That thing is awesome and it's pilot is NUTS!!! Would love to see/read a build thread.
keithskillz90210 Thx, yeah, definitely a cool plane - had fun filming it. Not sure what other applications the engine can been used for but it looks versatile.
Very cool modification.
Them wings be flexin hard 💪💪
It is nice he was able to regain control at the end.
Very very cool, u guys are awesome
Nice having power when you need it.Prevents outlandings when lift gives out.

+CHOPPERGIRL AIRWAR Cool...
if you hung eight engines on four wing pylons, you could call it a B52 mini (course you'd have to have very small bombs)
Shyt, where do you buy these things
It's so fast for a glider, I thought it won't handle the stresses and break on mid-air
Does the jet in fixed place and change to wings ruin gliding potential?
Wonderful Flight...
How strong are the wing spars on this glider.
Not your grandfather's glider...
That's for sure
AWESOME!
The Salto is specially designed for aerobatics. Limit should be around 7 G's if I am right.
I would have thought this salto must be flying very close to its VNE
It's actually flying well beyond its original VNE but it's highly modified with structural fortification to handle the increased stress from the engine.
Wonder what Hütter would have to say about it!
The Salto has a reputation for being overbuilt.... but anything unbreakable is just a challenge to some people!
Definitely got some flutter going on. I’d be pretty wary of it.
ok... stupid question time... are these gliders rated for higher G loading?
Dude i would love to have this. Is it custom? Or can you buy it as is shown?
I hope his wings are strong, must be putting like 5 tonnes of force on them.
Fantastic !!
There is a real danger of wings breaking off?
M M The plane got highly modified with structural and stress fortifications to accommodate the engine. It isn't the 'off the shelf' sailplane version that gets towed to altitude.
Gliders can withstand extreme g's, however this seemed to be with little safety margin....
None of the manoeuvres in this display needs more than positive or negative 4G. Aerobatic gliders like Swift F1 are certified to +8 and -6.
If the engine fails, still safe glide down? If so, can I buy a glider and put a big RC turbine jet engine?
Joe ExtraKnow yes you can!
Joe ExtraKnow its safe ya still need a license for gliding
I keep thinking of a Baby A10 Thunder Bolt
won´t the glider be under stress situation its not calculated for? short version---> is this safe structurally?
Tokyo Warfare No problem there. It was heavily modified to handle the jet power stress.
Would love to see the build process and how the wings were fortified
How many pounds of thrust??
Whoa. Gary Powers, eat your heart out!
+pancudowny This pilot's good, but powers would've flown circles around him.
*****
I was just making reference here because I couldn't think of another U2 pilot, seeing how the U2 is basically just a glider w/jet-power... But if you know the man & his method, I'll take your word.
More like an EXCEPTIONAL glider w/jet power :)
I hear ya... Who needs drones when you've got something like the U2 at your disposal? :D
Is it the chance it has of killing the pilot that makes it exceptional?
will the wings break?
Wow, that's awesome! ;)
wonder how those wings are enduring that much stress
It isn't an out-of-the-box sailplane. It's a heavily modified Super Salto.
My concern while watching and cringing during tjis video is that a glider has straight edge wings. It seems like a lot of shear force on the wings that it wasn't designed for. I kept waiting for one of the wings to snap off.
glutenfreejm3 It’s been heavily modified to handle the additional stress.
Mach1Airspace thanks for responding... I should have guessed that. That makes total sense. It was amazing to watch, now I can watch it again and relax and enjoy it :-)
Does anyone know the glider model?
Is it made to do that
Is it remord control or by man control
Human pilot inside ;)
Mach1Airspace and a pretty good one actually...
does this still count as turbine time?
Can't find a thermal? Hold on, let me fire up the ole jet. That should do it...
`Enough thermal inside the jet.
Looks like the wings are going break off
Love It - wow, cool
Blue angels should be flying these!
can you tell the price of the TJ100 jet engine.
can you tell the price of the TJ100 jet engine.
What is the maximum altitude you can reach in this jet powered motor glider on a full tank of fuel?
+CHOPPERGIRL AIRWAR Wouldn't know, darlin'...

please add a jet engine to a horse next time and post the video. I'll wait!!!
The flex on those wings would scare the shit out of me. No 4g dives for me.
Looks like the wings are gonna shear off at any minute
I saw this at travis air force base
It’s like putting a bike engine to a bicycle and doing wheelies
Ok this sounds crazy but can anyone tell me how I can get an aircraft or airplane for one person so I can fly one???? I really wanna flyyyyy
This is not a glider it's a small jet
Yep.
would you believe it, brazenly laying chemtrails on the crowd, arrest that pilot!
Indeed, all those damn chemtrails. This video is proof that it isn't frozen water!
Hey DipShit, its a few smoke canisters. Chill out...
schnipsy was unable to identify a joke and applied personal insult.
I haven't from anyone in that crowd. They must have been totally wiped out.
Add solar power and water floaters and *BAM* we have the best airplane!
Does anyone knows the top speed of those jet gliders?
Tej Parker: Please tell me, that's not a Pontiac Fiero strapped to a rocket engine?
Earl: Impressive, I know.
Tej Parker: No. No, that's not impressive.
Fast and Furious 9 came early...
All I can think is "those poor wings!"
Haha I am a total layman, so I'm sure it's normal, but watching them flex was giving me a bit of anxiety...
I wonder how fast it can go at FL600. How far.
Probably 3 times around the equator lmao
can this carry bombs and missiles?
I would imagine so. They used to drop rudimentary firebombs & grenades from later versions of the 1909 Wright Military Flyer, so I'm sure with a little ingenuity installing a drop & release mechanism on an advanced Jet Glider shouldn't be too hard. Why? Having issues with the in-laws? Lol.
Oliver Lorenzo ... why not ! I think yes
This Wow wings that can supports the 1 mach
Yeah
very nice
Ezt úgy hívják levegő szennyezés !!

Well, if you think about it this is probably more fun. You can glide when you want, and jet when you want :)

So true. So cool.
Tchek republic engines?PBSVB.
Anybody know the un-powered glide ratio with the engine bolted on?
Without the engine it would get about a 34:1 ratio. Was unable to get any reliable figures for it with the engine.
folding prop just seems easier
That's like comparing a high school diploma to a PHD. The prop is mainly for take-offs and return to altitude. The jet engine is for high powered acrobatics, 200 mph down angle runs, straight vertical climbs and 3x the flight time. Easier? Maybe, but so what!
+Mach1Airspace haha i completely agree, my response was more aimed towards the original comment, anyone thats concerned about the glide ratio should just get one with a prop
Imagine 3 more jets. 2 on wings. 1 on tale. 4 in total. Or even better, 6 in total, with 4 on the wings?
No because thats how you create a 1 man ssto
creo que ese planeador esta excedido de velocidad y además maniobra, es imprudente
Can it takeoff on its own??
J.A.M Yes, at :25 it’s taking off but I couldn’t film the beginning roll because of forefront vehicle obstructions.
If I had a glider I would put this on but I would only use it for emergencies
mucha tensión en las alas, excesiva tensión en la estructura, creo que es muy peligroso
I'll be out around the 23rd. Hoping to check out in the Bonusjet. I have a week of flying with Jason S. Starting the 26th. See you soon. Check out my RUclips channel.

TurboJet Engine
The jider
Glider with a jet performance?? I dont know about that!! One or the other..I guess.. :)
Во так и вырастает, новое поколение пилотов, не знающих что такое рычаг отцепления буксировочного троса.
What's next, a balloon with a jet engine?
Nah, need wings at the very least.
Easy peasy.... hot air is useful too......
Zeppelin with a jet
Richard Goodwin's Jet Pitts is going to be insane with a power to weight ratio of greater than 1:1!
Toyota Prius with jet engine!
Vne anybody?
Gliders can break if flown too hard....
what is the point, flying a jet!
Almost no one can have a jet but they can park this in their hanger and fly it for a fraction of the cost.
+Mach1Airspace love this. your company should consider the Caribbean as a new market
I thought I saw some flutter.
Flex (by design), not flutter.
I know the wings are flexible and are affected by the G-forces, but from 2:40 I thought to see some flutter too. As well as minor flutter in other shots.
This thing needs a jet engine in each wing! What is this single engine weakness...?
I'd say it's flying way too fast. Look at the wings start to flutter.
David Roberts They've got it down to a science dude - they didn't just throw in a jet engine.
Take a wing seat on your next ride in a 747 . You will see LOTS of wing movement.
Using a simple jet up and glide down at 150 mph cross country with auto-pilot, you could effortlessly fly-glide 1500 miles...
Im going to mount a jet to the back if my motherinlaw and see if she can fly
one day he will break the wings or the entire frame
Switch engine Off ok
