Thank you! Most videos don't go over the specific connectors and how to remove/replace the cables. I enough to know that opening them the wrong way can break them. Thanks again.👍
Glad it helped
@@hobbiesunlimited1 hi, your video is quite meticulous! my iPod gen 6 has a flickering screen every time I plugged it in. The logo of apple appears and then vanishes. Do you have any idea what can i do to fix it?
@@camdelg1 Sounds like a battery issue. When you plug into USB is it plugged into your computer, or is it plugged into an actual outlet? If you are plugged into a computer try plugging into a wall outlet and see if that makes any difference.
Thanks so much,I successfully installed a new drive and my precious iPod is back in business thanks to following your tips...I really appreciate it
Can I purchase a replacement ribbon cable for my ipod classic (160k, and the same as in this video)? I tore it when I got my cover off 😞
I need a harddrive replacement ribbon cable

Many thanks - this helped me with replacing the (bad) HDD on a 7th gen with a solid state drive
Finally some professional tutorial. Thank you!
Tell me, how do you format a ipod 5th? I've tried on Windows 10, but did no good. I formatted as a exFAT partition, with 128 kilobytes, and now I can't even install RockBox. It says 'Error reading the partition table - possibly not an Ipod'.
Am I doomed?😢
How can I fix this.
Thanks in advance and keep up the good work.
Plug your Ipod into usb on your computer. Bring up Disk Management. You should see your Ipod in there. Each hard drive in Disk Management has a number. Note the number drive for your Ipod. Then press Win+R. You will get the run command. Type in diskpart and hit enter. Diskpart will open. Type list disk and hit enter. It will show you the list of drives attached. Lets say your Ipod is Disk 3. Next you will type select disk 3 and hit enter. It will tell you that disk is selected. Type clean and hit enter. Beware this will wipe everything with with no safeguards. Make sure you have the right disk selected. Once you hit enter there is no going back. Once it is complete go back to Disk Management. You will now see the Ipod says unallocated. Format the ipod to exfat and you should be good to go to bring up Itunes and restore to factory settings.
I just got what i think is a 160GB 6th gen, and the hard drive works well for now, but i know its not going to last forever and id like to try and flashmod it eventually. Now something that sorta confuses me about how you opened the ipod is how easy it was. I've seen from other places that opening 6th/7th gens is a nightmare, and that its very easy to damage the casing. So is it actually that easy or do i have to be worried about how i go about doing things?
It's not too bad for me, but i've been doing it for 12-13 years. The 6th/7th gen are a pain. They are a little tougher. You don't need to pry out super far which will destroy the case. Just enough to release the clips. If you do pry outwards too much on the case you can bend the case back in with your hands.
It boggles me that they actually put HDDs in these things. I seriously thought they used flash memory, especially since HDDs are much more delicate.
oh for real. what boggles me even more though is considering the drives are hdds is how many people have no backup whatsoever of their music. I get so many Ipod repairs where the drive is toast and the customer is like, "make sure to save all my music. It's the only copy i have." ha. I get most people don't have any type of IT background or anything, but you would think just the thought of even just losing the Ipod would be enough. nope.
I have an iPod Classic for 14 years and it is still working, but it was damaged a little when I took it apart. Can I fix the dent and do you think it is possible to replace the battery with an original one?
with a little finesse you should be able to bend the casing back if it was damaged when taking it apart. If not you can order replacements through ebay.
@@hobbiesunlimited1 I find 2 TV for ipod classic upgraded did you try it before what do you think..
Very good!
I just stumbled on this video. I also have a 6th Gen 120GB Classic and an HDD that has issues. I can Sync some music, then get errors and cannot continue syncing. I would like the HDD replaced with something larger. I currently have 121.61GB of music Synced to my iPhone 11. I want to downsize my phone and not carry the music on the phone.
Unfortunately the 120GB model can only be upgraded to a max of 128GB. You can drop a larger hard drive in, but it will only show 128GB. Now if you changed operating systems and used something called Rockbox instead of Itunes then you could put in whatever size hard drive you want.
@@hobbiesunlimited1 Oi. My bad, it’s a 160GB. Apologies for that.
@@edwardwilliams6514 is it a 6th gen 160gb or a 7th gen 160gb? if it's a 7th gen you're good to go, but if it's a 6th gen you're still bound to 128GB on an aftermarket drive. For some reason Itunes firmware only allows the 6th gen 80gb/160gb and the 7th gen 120gb to upgraded to 128GB aftermarket. Which makes no sense for the 160gb, but i have a video dropping in about 10 minutes that shows it.
@@hobbiesunlimited1 It’s the last gen, 7th
@@edwardwilliams6514 oh perfect. you're good to go then.
i have a couple of old ipods id like fixed. Do you still do that ?
I do
