That's actually a safer way to disconnect the battery ribbon cable lol, even dankpods disconnects it like that. Just make sure to also push down on the brown tab with a tweezer or something while using your other hand to pull the ribbon cable up with another tweezer. Using this method, you're less likely to rip the battery connector off the motherboard.
Thanks for the tip about the white lines, used the green board and newer micro sd to cf adapter and it worked perfectly first time. All for less than £10
What i did for the red card green adapter combo to work was to put a piece of paper under de connector of the adapter so that it made a good connection and also make sure it will never slip out(had problems with it) also i put the cable all the way inside while the piece of paper is in there to fill space, also when it came to restore the ipod it got stuck in a restore loop so i rebuild the ipod storage in Mbr just when it filled the bar of progress and for some reason it works and i finally have a working ipod
The thing difference Between iflash and the generic cf card $30(considering shipping too ) I had the same issue with my IPod Classic with menu button issues . I thought the problem was the cheap Chinese adapter and went for the Iflash . Apparently the problem was with the menu button . The zif tab on the generic one is not strong enough what I did is i used a thin layer of micropore tape on to the zif cable to get a snug fit .
That info at 3:37 helped me successfully flash-mod my iPod 5.5g with green adapter from Aliexpress. After struggling for an hour I did as you mentioned and it worked for the first time. Thanks!
@@grahammcdonald No, I didn't have a boot loop. Just bad connection from iPod's board to adapter when I closed the case. I've heard lately that some users have been experiencing boot loops after restoring iPod. Somebody discovered that red SD adapter distorts first bytes of MBR on SD in the process and fixed it by editing first bytes of SD's MBR directly on PC through a card reader. Saw this info in /r/ipod on reddit.
I had same issue and tried for almost an hour, trying to fit the cable to the CF adapter multiple times, and then came across this video. The trick as mentioned in this video is to insert the cable only so much that the first white line is just visible and then close the latch. In my case the connection was still not tight enough so finally used some tape on the flex cable to get a tight fit. Thanks to this guy who made the video. I was almost convinced that the board is faulty.
Somebody referenced this video in a forum and it saved me, I ended up throwing my last adapter away since I thought it didn't work or something, but pulling the cable slightly out from the port worked.
Considering getting this solution actually as I have a 6th 120GB and recently acquired a 5.5 80GB and the iFlash is quite hard to find in my country without having it shipped internationally to the point I may just as well buy an already refurbished iPod.
I would definitely try out the iFlash SD Adapter cards but the shipping price to ship it all the way to Southeast Asian countries is expensive (a bit more the cost of a faulty iPod sold on second hand websites). Of course it will be worth the money. 😅 For now, I try with those cheap adapters first on my recently purchased iPod 6th Gen as my first time modding an iPod.
I use the cheapo green zif-CF. Always work on my gen 3/4/5/5.5 BUT I ALWAYS had issues with the red CF-SD adapters... Now I use the black one always works.
I have an unusual zif connector I pulled out of a 60 gig fifth gen. It seems to be about three times the thickness of a standard connector. With that connector, Every single cheap board I plug into it works. I'm currently using it on my iFlash mSata.its a really tight fit, but once it's on, it won't go anywhere.
I use the cheapo green adapters in all my ipods (5.5gen 4th 3rd gen) but I could be I'm lucky. It's the red CF adapters that're having me issues. The black ones works all the time.
the black adapter that you mencioned, is an adapter with the word "new" in red? I want to mod my ipod 6g but I don't know which adapter I should buy or if a 128GB kingston compact flash canvas plus will be compatible with the cheapo green adapter. A long ago I bought one and I put a 4gb adata CF card into an ipod 5.5G and it worked perfectly.
It took me hours to know about the installing of the ribbon cable just out a tiny bit, wish I'd have seen this vid sooner. This has made it work reliably on my 5. I have 2x 5.5 and they just boot loop when the restore nears its end. Also, when restoring I get an error on the mac and I have to pull the usb out as it just hangs. But replugged in the white bar in the iPod rises and then it's fine: Your yanking out of the battery cable made me wince. The brown part should be lifted upwards gently with tweeters of you risk the battery ribbon snapping off. (You probably knew this though)
Ok saw your newer vid. I get what you mean about pulling out the battery, though if the ribbon is folded and weak it will bread (mine did). The 1460 error.. interestingly I get that, but if I unplug and plug in, then it continues and works.
I tried this (the cheap method) and it didn't work. If you want something that actually does work basically guaranteed, an iFlash is the only real way to do it.
I have a 1st generation iPod mini. The hard disk is dead and the old owner has broken the battery socket in the mainboard, it needs to be re-soldered. Since the hard disk wants higher energy, it does not turn on when it is batteryless and connected to the PC charge. If I insert a cf card in this ipod, can I use it on charge or on the philips dock?
this is probably a dumb question but I bought a green board and used a Sony compact flash not adapter and not formatted (I do not have a CF reader)I think that it is the CF card I am just wondering if you think this observation is right.
i got this recently for my 5th gen and it took some doing to get it to work because the latch was too loose but that's not a problem anymore, the problem is that i can only get it to work on an old ibook i got which restores it to software version 1.1.2, which is fine but i can't put videos on it for whatever reason. When i try restoring it in windows to version 1.3 it gets stuck in recovery mode no matter how many times i try.
yo, would going cheap option with a 4th gen be not as bad since it uses the IDE connector rather than the filmsy ribbon? ive got plenty double sided tape ;)
Know this is pre old but does this current set up work with the 2000mah flat battery? Curious if it fits in the thin back with this cf adapter and sd card. Any help would be appreciated!
Mate if iflash wouldnt cost like 500 of my currency ( i can litterally buy 2 working ipod 7th gens here for this ) then i wouldnt need the green adapter and red card

You've truly made me look at myself in the mirror. I'm doing this the right way and getting an iFlash board.
