    Dr. Berg gives his opinion on taking exogenous ketones. Many sites who sell this product do not emphasize changing your diet or lowing your carbs. This defeats the whole purpose of getting your eating corrected and developing a healthy lifestyle.
    Talking Exogenous (Beta Hydroxybutyrate BHB) Ketones in a pill form, make allow you to see ketones in your urine, but this does not mean you are somehow magically burning fat.

      Since I learned you can't do the long fasts a week before a period, because it lowers progesterone (not good) I wondered if a bit of ketones would help since i have to raise the glucose/carbs more to keep progesterone up. we also need more magnesium the week before a period for progesterone! glad i have nettle and oatstraw infusions

    It’s not about ketones. It’s about getting back into Ketosis faster. If for some reason you went to a friends house who was trying to be nice and made you a meal that they “thought was keto friendly” and then you find out there was sugar in one of the ingredients. You are now kicked out of Ketosis. So instead of waiting for your body to put you back into Ketosis naturally in a day or so you can drink some BHB and be back in within hours. And not all BHB is 130.00. And not all people use BHB all day everyday but like me use in the case above.

      Ketosis and ketogenesis are two different things. So you have hyperglycemia+ketones where otherwise you would have had just hyperglycemia, big whoopdie-doo. Save your money and live and learn.

      What I'm trying to figure out is what happens if you do use exogenous ketones like this, what does your body do with those carbs and sugar that you just ate now. For example, I just ate a slice of cake and I want to get back into ketosis so I drink my exogenous ketones, now my body will burn those ketones to get me back in a ketosis but what happens to the sugar and carbs that I just ate? Do I burn both off at the same time? Or does it get stored as fat still?

    • @heavenlee1965
      @heavenlee1965 3 года назад +1

      Actually, if you've been adapted long enough, you won't need to drink the ketones. Again, ketosis is a process, drinking = peeing.

    • @oopssugar
      @oopssugar 2 года назад +5

      Hi, I hear you , However here is my concern:
      once you've eaten that sugary treat at that friend's house unknowingly and your body is now out of ketosis because it is burning the glucose that you have eaten....
      sure it'll take A-day or 2 for you to get back starting to pee keytones (if that's what you're looking for or if you're not looking for them on a stick out of your urine , you will feel your body having more energy .
      There's no actual way for you to tell whether you're in ketosis by looking at yourself, you have to check your blood or your urine to know whether you're burning keytones . So my issue is that you have an excess store of glucose In your system and you are no longer burning those normal and natural keytones that you have built up in your system so your body while it's trying to eat the glucose that you just ate is now forced abnormally to eat a cute fake ketone and stop eating the sugar that you have in your liver. You're tricking it by delaying the eating of the glucose. To which your body will go to right after it's done eating those fake keytones , so you haven't actually done anything but delay the body getting rid of the glucose that's all you're doing is putting a delay on it.

    I bought some because I was going through the transition and having horrible fatigue. I was eating my potassium and getting 5k mgs and taking a b complex supplement but I still had trouble. I figured out that carbs were sneaking in in vegetables and dairy so I made the switch but used the exogenous ketones to give me energy and motivation while I dialed everything in. Worked like a charm!

    With all due respect, Dr. Berg, I must disagree with what you're saying about BHB (exogenous Ketones). I'd been faithfully following keto since September 25, 2017 and I EASILY lost 34 pounds in 3 months. Then the weight loss stopped (which is a common problem with women who aren't uber-athletes). I upped my walking and got even "cleaner" to no avail, even though I was still registering PURPLE. I just could NOT break through this barrier. And, yes, I measured, but no difference there either. Then I started taking 1/2 scoop of BHB that cost $58 a canister, so it lasts about a month. WHAT A DIFFERENCE! I IMMEDIATELY started losing weight again, my energy went through the roof and I feel like a million bucks! This stuff is great! I don't care if I AM peeing out this stuff -- all the other benefits PLUS THE IMMEDIATE WEIGHT LOSS cannot be ignored. Please TEST this yourself (or better yet, your wife), THEN do another video. God bless you, Dr. Berg. I've learned so much from all of your videos.

    • @randomroses1494
      @randomroses1494 5 лет назад +2

      Taking BHB isn’t necessarily going to raise your ketone levels much(if at all). Most of the benefits people experience from taking them are from the salts which counter the losses of electrolytes that our bodies experiences as a result of being in ketosis. It would be far better to take ketone esters which really do have an actual physiological effect on ketone levels and will produce a far greater anti-inflammatory benefit. Ketone esters are more expensive, but health is wealth as they say.

    The question that's been on my mind since these supplements started flooding the market was, "Are you really in ketosis after taking these or are you just peeing ketones because of the supplement? Surely you can't just go into ketosis because you somehow got ketones into your blood stream.". I finally found the answer from a source I trust. Thanks Dr. Berg!

    I'm in ketosis and losing weight just fine. I work out pretty hard every other day and feel like I could add something to increase my performance a little bit. The choices are:
    1 Even more fat
    2 Carb up before exercise
    3 Exogenous ketones
    Which would be the better choice? Feel free to compare and motivate! Whatever the choice I would try to add as LITTLE as possible to see the effect. Then add a little more and so on to find out the maximum effect with the smallest change possible. I'd rather not eat carbs at all but if that's the better choice I'd consider it. The price of the products mentioned in the video is not an issue for me.

    I've been doing keto since February and slipped up a couple times. I've been going strong lately and have lost almost 35 lbs since Feb 1st doing keto. As of right now, I always test in large or larger ketosis. When I workout I drink keto aminos that have BHB and I've got another BHB powder I just tried right before watching. How does this affect someone doing keto well already and only want to supplement to see better results? I'm uncertain if it's the BHB or workouts that have led to an increased weight loss the next day

    I'm amazed how easy intermittant fasting is. I'll eat all the callories for a whole day between 5pm and 11pm and then the next day at around 4 pm I start to feel hungry. Didn't expect it to be that easy.
    I have to admit, before starting I increased vegetables to 7 to 10 cups a day, reduced carbs (replaced them with fat) for about a month. I think that helped making fasting easy.
    I'm not overweight. About 19% body fat. But I want it down to about 12%. I don't fast on days I train, but I'm finding that intermittant "intermittant fasting" makes things a lot more practical.

    I've been experimenting with these trying to figure out where and if they're of any benefit. I don't think I'm sold on them for a day to day use. I took an extra water bottle of them on a 7 hour, 12 mile, 300' vert hike and they probably kept me from bonking some late in the hike. Now I'm trying them when I do a 4 hour workout in the middle of a multi day fast and think they might allow me to cheat a little but I keep wondering what effect they have on my fat burning progress, possibly slowing it or stopping it. For me I think their only benefit is an emergency cheat fuel thats not sugar.

    Hi Dr. Berg, how using this supplement to re-enter ketosis on the Cylical Ketogenic Diet? Even with a 24H fast and fasted training it takes me > 4 days to get back into ketosis after a carb refeed. (have done SKD for 8 months without refeeds beforehand)
    Where can I find out more about the science of re-entering ketosis (e.g. what factors play a role (available glycogen that needs to be burned first etc)), how is ketosis best exited? E.g a small fructose based meal to replentish liver glycogen 4-5 hours before final workout etc.
    Furthermore, can someone become keto-unadapted, if on a high carbohydrate diet long enough?
    As a professional athlete who mainly uses the KD for therapeutic reasons, I have to incorporate carbohydrate feeds into my diet in order to compete.
    Would love to hear from you.

    When you hit your goal weight I’m definitely taking these so I don’t burn thru my muscle exercising for an hour during intermittent fasting is tough. Burning fat for energy while your exercising is a slow process and sometimes I hit a wall. But I still have a bunch to loose so I’m not gonna do it now

      Personally they helped me incredibly- I feel said watching this video as he's placing all ketone companies under the same branch. I was told it was an energy source which allowed me to make healthier food choices which indeed it did!! No sugar cravings when I had been even waking in the night to eat candy popcorn. I've done low carb with and without exogenous ketones and I tell you it's WAYYYYY easier on them xo

    My question is this: If you take these exogenous ketones, does it really put your body in a state of ketosis or are you just peeing out the ketones you just took? What do they actually do for you? If I do the keto diet (which I've done for years and it certainly works for weight loss) AND I take some of these exogenous ketones, are there any benefits to it? Am I not better off just doing the diet and not wasting my money on supplements? Thanks.

    I'm actually using it but in a different way. I have quite a bit of extra body fat and I am doing an extremely low calorie fast for a 10-day cycle. Only consuming 500-700 calories a day taking vitamins supplement on a keto diet for that 500- 700 calories. Im using the keto Salts not just to stay in ketosis but also to make up the energy deficit. I'm on day 7 of 10. I have lost 8.5 lbs and do not feel weak or hungry in any way. After 10 days I plan on resuming 1700 calories a day for 10 days and then returning to another fast. Yes I am experimenting a little

    Does Exogenous ketones work for better cognition?

  • @MarmaladeINFP
    @MarmaladeINFP 5 лет назад +3

    Why does almost everyone talk about fat loss? Ketosis has many benefits far more important than fat loss. The big thing I've noticed is better mental clarity, increased energy, improved mood, etc --- all important to me since I've dealt with neurocognitive issues my entire life, from a learning disorder to chronic depression. A ketogenic diet is great. But the research shows that exogenous ketones, either in combination with diet or taken alone, show major benefits in numerous areas of health. In fact, your level of ketones will be higher than possible on diet alone.
