Great video! I just bought the same jacket at a local vintage shop. Really like it!👍🏼
Nice one. They are a good jacket 👍 I'm glad you enjoyed 😊💯
Hi again Andy, hope your well.
I have a Green German Moleskin regular army parka, which was made in 1977, which I bought in 1986.
I’m still wearing it now. It’s a great coat, and has been with me for most of my life. Proper hard wearing, I have used it on building sites, fishing, working on my 1972 VW camper, camping, pretty much everything. Only got one button missing, but it’s pretty frayed around the edges now…a bit like me!
All the best.👍🏾🇬🇧
Sounds like that jacket is an old friend 👍
I've had one of those Flecktarn parka's for 25 years now, worn it walking, fishing etc.
Great bit of kit but as you say won't keep out heavy rain, but in cold dry weather & with the matching thermal liner it's bombproof.
Enjoyed your video, thanks.
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed 👍
I have one of these Andy! I’ve always been keen on the Flektarn camo- ability! I recently bought the thermal liner for it which is great! Love this jacket!
Nice one, never knew it had a thermal liner 👍
I have a grey, quilted liner with a large knit collar. I use it alone or under different jackets. Zipper ends around waist level, so very practical for sitting.
I bought one a year ago. VERY well made and designed. Great light weight "windbreaker" type jacket.
Agreed, and you get a lot of jacket for the price. The only downside is that it is heavily dense with the cotton mix for a rainy temperate climate i think. 👍
I waxed mine and it is pretty water resistant, been using it for many years now.
Sew a poachers pocket into it and add two lower exterior pockets from a pair of flecjtarn trousers. That will up its spec.
The Bundeswehr are no longer selling their surplus to the general public, I have lot of German kit getting harder and very expensive to source, been repairing most of my norgies IMO they are the best nice and light but very warm.
It's a nice bit of kit, though a little too much cotton for the damp old UK. We'll made though 👍
👍👍👍 .. Nice. Well worth a consideration.
I have an older German Bundeswehr 'Nato' Mil Surplus Jacket in Green / Grey. It came with a removable synthetic fleece liner for colder weather .. got it back in the late 80's, used but in good nick. Together with the British Army 100% Wool 'Woolly Pulley', it has served me well through the coldest Swiss Winters. A cheap lightweight vinyl Poncho that fits into one of the hand-warmer pockets does ad-hoc duty when going out in suspected possible rain weather. Anyway, the inner pocket has always in it, an 'Emergency Poncho' together with one of those emergency Mylar 'Space Blankets', some Adhesive Tape and Cordage.
The tape will be used (haven't needed it yet .. hopefully never 🤞😏) for taping the edges of the slit cut into the Space Blanket for one's head to fit through .. prevents the cut from 'running'. The Cordage? Many uses. However specifically to be used as a belt for the thin plastic Poncho to reduce 'flapping about' in wind.
I shouldn't watch your Posts .. makes me want to go out and get another Jacket or such .. and then have to justify (not really .. usually raised eyebrow and eye roll 😁) the purchase to the local 'Authority'.
Seriously, you are correct. 'Branded' (aka, more than often, priced at 'what the market is prepared to tolerate') Outdoor Gear is expensive and Military Surplus is definately a viable alternative. I have branded clothing purchased from a Finnish Outdoor / Mil Suplus Outlet. The material is a 65/35% Poly/Cotton mix. Same as a well-known Nordic Brand (and feels very much the same) but at a third of the price. Yes, it pays to shop around. In defence of the Nordic Brand, it is made locally (not in the East) which will up the production cost.
All said .. am not taking my own advice and will subscribe .. and just keep a low profile and batten down the hatches if I succumb to temptation 😏.
Thanks for sharing .. take care ..
Thanks for taking the time to write quite a lot of what you wear. I tend to get more stuff mainly to better the last one I brought, thinking, this is it, I can't get better than this. I think I've learned my lesson, but I still like gear. I've decided that it doesn't matter what you get, the weather conditions always win in the end. It's the brain and body that keeps you going. Would like to know this Finnish outdoor mil surplus. Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed the videos, and thanks for the sub. 👍
فيديو جميل و مكان رائع .. لقد حصلت على نفس المعطف🇩🇪 من محل للملابس المستعملة .. تحياتي من تونس 🇹🇳✌🏽
I can't understand your language, so I can't comment, but I hope you enjoyed the video 👍

Great video in a beautiful place.. I got the same coat🇩🇪 from a used clothing store.. Greetings from Tunisia✌🏽🇹🇳
@@artiste8491 thanks 🤘💯
Nice find Andy! Germany is no longer surplussing their flecktarn uniform pieces, so this stuff will become harder to find.
Cheers for that Eric 👍
These are very well made and a fraction of the cost for a US parker. You need to waterproof the jacket every couple of years and even then its just really good for light rain. In the military these would be used with ponchos made out of Denier Ripstop Nylon fabric with DWR waterproofing.
Yes, they are very good for the price, but they are a bit dense with the cotton mix if you live in a rainy cold region, I think. 👍
What do you use to waterproof it bud?.
Nikwax. You spray it on and it soaks in@@frankking781
Love your channel, Andy! Love seeing the similarities and differences between the UK countryside and here in eastern Canada. I have the surplus versions of the US M65 (Woodland version) and the British DPM (Woodland) that you have reviewed. Both are great bits of kit depending on what you use them for. I usually love German quality and the Flecktarn pattern, but this parka shown here has too much cotton in my humble opinion. I prefer the 50/50 NYCO or 50/50 polycotton, like the Brits and Americans use. Anyways, hope to see more clothing and gear reviews while you're out and about in the beautiful English countryside. I especially loved the rainy adventures like the DPM parka and Buffalo jacket videos. Take care!!!!!
Thanks for then wonderful words John, that German Parker is very cotton laden, that's why I hinted at the end about keeping dry. It is a good quality jacket though for the price so I decided to advertise it for poorer people or anyone that's interested. I'm really glad you like the channel john, thanks👍
@@Andy-walkaboutnutty Agreed! It's a wonderful parka for the low prices you can usually pick them up for.
I have used one of these parkas for years here in Western Canada and the material is very dense like a light canvas. It takes wax very well and although not waterproof the material is actually pretty awesome once treated.
Good vid. That's one of my favorite camo patterns along with DPM.
Thanks, yer, it's pretty good. 🙂👍
Nice one Andy, love your videos (3 months late).
Thanks Chris, there's no worries with the time, I just like to put my points across in the videos. 👍
Another great video Andy the flektarn pattern very nice had a feling the nikwax tec might fail I used their cotton proof on a mtp windproof smock and it does a reasonable job but not fully proofed, worked better diluted 1 to 9 product and brushed on with a paint brushallowing to soak in brush off any excess, the wash in metod they reccomend not so good for me.
Thanks for that Steve, the nikwax I used is for gortex, TX direct is what I had at the time so I used that and to see how it fares. But I wanted to prove that it's best not to trust your life on a waterproofing agent because if you get caught out you could potentially die, fact. I don't want to advertise something that doesn't work, I would rather do the opposite and slag something off because its shlte. I wouldn't care what the manufacturers think.
I love mine, but the lack of water resistance is annoying, and limits its use.
I love army surplus for camping and hunting, but this jacket is limited to nice weather, or being in canada, as a breathable layer over some sweaters when it’s well below zero.
The pocket bellows are all made that way to avoid snagging stuff when going through the forest btw.
@jimf1964 Yes, i agree. it's heavily laden with cotton, so very damp weather is going to be a problem. There's a couple of things you could try. Waterproof it with fabsil, and wear wool underneath. I hope you enjoyed the video 🙂
@@Andy-walkaboutnutty Is fabsil better than Nikwax?
@jimf1964 a hell of a lot better. I spray it on everything. Boots, rucksack, tarp/basha jackets. I have a video on how to apply it, and a couple of videos with different jackets testing them in the rain. These are called, how to waterproof a ventile jacket with fabsil gold. Arktis B110 combat smock waterproof test treated with fabsil. M65 jacket waterproof test treated with fabsil. I use the plain fabsil now, not the gold. There's another you might be interested in. It's called, how to wax a bushcraft jacker with fjallraven Greenland wax.
@@Andy-walkaboutnutty Yeah, not sure I want to bother waxing it, but maybe. Definitely the desert one I have I will not wax. Thanks, I’ll check you videos tomorrow
Great Parka!
Yer, it's pretty good. Cheers 👍
Yes i own this type of jacket and it's good quality product but yes keep it clean and wet proof every three months in snow its hard times unless you have the knowledge of Feild cleaning uniform
It is heavily laden with cotton, that's the only trouble 👍
Can't argue for £20. It would be more worth it if they said, 'shower proof' Andy. Quick question. What valley were you in there? Them falls look good. Well, just popping in to wish you a happy new year. May there be some great adventures out there for you. Mark
Thanks Mark, happy new year. I'm about 200 metres up from blaen y Glyn lsaf car park just up the road from Talybont reservoir. One of the wellington bomber crash sites is near by and its a good place to explore. 💯👍
@@Andy-walkaboutnutty A pleasure Andy. Hey, that sounds great mate. Have an awesome time.
What's the black jacket your wearing
It's the tactical TS1 smock by snugpak. If you're thinking of getting one, be very careful on the sizes, I'm a large, but a medium fitted me better.
