The world is under the control of Shinra, a corporation controlling the planet's life force as mako energy. In the city of Midgar, Cloud Strife, former member of Shinra's elite SOLDIER unit now turned mercenary lends his aid to the Avalanche resistance group, unaware of the epic consequences that await him. Final Fantasy 7 Remake is a reimagining of the iconic original with unforgettable characters, a mind-blowing story, and epic battles. The story of this first, standalone game in the Final Fantasy VII Remake project covers up to the party’s escape from Midgar, and goes deeper into the events occurring in Midgar than the original Final Fantasy 7. A new chapter awakens with Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade, an enhanced and expanded version of the critically acclaimed and award-winning Final Fantasy 7 remake for the PlayStation 5. It comes bundled with the brand new episode featuring Yuffie as the main character, which introduces an exhilarating new story arc and numerous gameplay additions for players to enjoy.

I half believe that was the devs talking to the audience. They knew that Wall Market was pretty much "the scene" they had to get right. Moon logic or no, it's the part of Midgar everyone remembers. It also aged like milk in parts, what with the casual homophobia (Group Room, anyone?) and treating Cloud crossdressing as inherently funny/embarrassing. They managed it to perfection; keeping the bits that worked, slashing the bits that didn't, and making it all more fun by having Cloud be a little into the whole thing. They kept the tone and atmosphere intact perfectly, but in a way that was actually done much better than the original sequence.

I really like the theory I've heard that Final Fantasy 7: Remake wasn't really meant as "a remake of FF7", but as a sequel to FF7 where "Remake" is the subtitle. Sephiroth is attempting to remake the past to change the outcome.
Also, one thing you missed: That bit at the end where Biggs is shown to be alive? Check the headband and glove on the dresser, and the way the camera seems to pay attention to them. They seem to look like Jessie's. It's obviously not confirmed, but a common fan theory is that they're hinting Jessie is still alive too. Considering how much more development her character got, I think we all hope so.

when I played FF7 I didn't know Aerith is going to die, and she was always part of my team, her abilities were really powerful so when she was killed it had an impact on my whole gameplay, it sounds so weird to hear them say Aerith a very important part of the team is a waste of experience

      @nrnrn999 3 года назад +2

Well, she *is* a waste of early game experience whether you know it or not, because she will never be useable in the late game so any XP you pump into her is a waste. my roommate and i played this together. Our interpretation of the whole thing was that Aerith and Sephiroth are both aware of the events of the original FF7, to varying degrees. So they are both trying to move to manipulate events, and the whispers were trying to keep things the same. So the big whisper event at the end was destiny stepping in as a last ditch chance to keep things from going too far off the rails. Cloud and Co both obv beat them back, and then the fight with Sephiroth in the end opened up the world to a whole new game. So FF7R is predicated off the fact that FF7 has already happened, and we are playing a new timeline where anything can happen now.
    But thats just our take

    • @emeryltekutsu4357

My take it that it's possible to save Aerith and Zack.

They were what really clued me in - between seeing Aerith's death and Meteor hitting Midgar, I was yelling at the TV every time Cloud's vision went static and the ghosties came out. Also the Jenova Dreamweaver fight was awesome and hearing the music kick in was amazing.
And one of my favorite tiny details in the game was when Cloud first sees Sephiroth in the clone, and he tries to take out his sword, but it hits the top of the doorway. There's so much thought put into the little things of this game and I love so much of it

I think there are 2 issues at work with some of the ambiguity in FF7 that make it less ambiguous and more a few mistakes of writing and pacing. 1) the translation while better than say FF8 where Squall's dialogue is just removed flat out, still leaves a little to be desired. 2) there's a lot of really important information (see almost everything regarding Zach or Lucretia for example) that you have to actively go way out of your way to find out

15:50 Jessie does question what happened with the bomb even in the original, it's not as overt as in Remake but if you talk to her in the base under Seventh Heaven she remarks that the explosion was bigger than expected and how she might've miscalculated or something like that. But in the original they do seem to be okay with it and proud of how spectacular it was. Remake took all the little details and hints the original game (and the rest of the Compilation expanded upon) and just put it front and center so people couldn't miss it.
I'm of two minds about it honestly... on the one hand it's nice that people won't miss it but on the other hand the original game really rewarded exploration and talking to people in a way that Remake doesn't do as much. There were pretty big things to find out if you spent the time and put two and two together but now most things are just served up. I like both approaches and it's impossible for me to figure out which is best, they're just different.

I like that the "ghosts" are not really us, the players, or the "nostalgia" of the players... a lot of people think that they are being controlled by Sephiroth, to keep things in course the same way as OG FF7, because Sephiroth KNOWS what's gonna happen and that he'll lose to Cloud so he somehow went back in time to get everything set up again until one point that he knows he won't lose again. God, this is so GOOD.
Oh but the thing you said Jesse that you never understood, is the Sephiroth vs Cloud final fight: All that happens in Cloud's mind. That's Cloud fighting with the memory of thaman that ruined everything and keeps haunting him, to finally end it for good. But yeah, it's just a representation for Cloud's mental struggle finally ending. Man... what a game, what a story. I love and absolutely adore this. 💖💖💖💖💖

That's interesting, I see it as the exact opposite: The ghosts were keeping things on track, for better (ensuring Barret survives Shinra tower) or worse (ensuring the plate drops). Thing is, ultimately, the "track" included Sephiroth losing. I see this as "Sephiroth just manipulated the heroes into beating the Whispers and unchaining everyone from the plot that was set in stone." Now that they're gone, anything goes, and he can change things around so he'll actually win this time. Your victory is no longer a foregone conclusion, and the things you took for granted about FF7's story will no longer necessarily be true.

With the remake, I knew the Midgar section so I got the changes and the weirdness but now I get to experience the new bits with everyone else!

oh man the meta theory crafting in this video is so good! i never played the original FF7 so i figured the ghosts were normal in both games! very intriguing theory!

You got to remember, back then before you moved forward, you had make sure you didn't miss any secrets, special items, or monsters.
There was no backtracking at some points, so if you missed it, you had start over. A lot of stuff was hidden with no hints, and some bosses had stuff to obtain before moving on.
Enemy skills were like today's games where they quest you into collecting. That paranoia made Midgar take a while. Once you knew the game, you could B-line it in no time.
Story wise as we slowly played, the game would give us pieces, hints, and clues. Kids were smart, we didn't know the exact details, but we understood how this world worked as we played.

Jesse, Jesus: the very very last Sephiroth fight at the end of the original FF7 is Cloud fighting the remaining Jenova in his body. You don't actually go to a real place or location or anything.

I know it'll be covered later, but the church scene with Reno: Cloud is about to kill Reno and before the ghosts even show up, Aerith says "Cloud, no!" with this look of absolute horror. Not the horror of just watching someone murder another. She knew what effect that would have on the timeline.
The only question is, was it to preserve the timeline, or was it just to prevent the ghosts from manifesting and interfering with her own plan, whatever that may have been?

20:00 Exactly! I've been saying that for years! Aerith loves what she saw of Zach in him, not actually Cloud.

I think that's what makes her fall for him almost instantly. However Zach is way more outgoing and happy go lucky. I think Aerith begins getting attached to who Cloud really is around Wall Market, and fully by Shinra.

I think the biggest problem with that and why its confusing to some from OG FF7 is so much of the Zach stuff (and frankly a lot of important background information) is hidden away in sidequests and some stuff you have to go out of your way to find, so some people missed it

Nailed it once again, fellow gents! Jesse, Michael and the animator/editor that made this all possible considering the times we live in - you all absolutely CRUSHED it in this video. I...admit that I'm pretty late to the party on this one, but damn guys...this was a good one. I was honestly terrified that this was all put on hold until Corona cleared up - but now that we got you're amazing 32-bit selves in the picture and the quality is STILL incredible, I cannot tell you how much it means to have you guys back in town. You're all simply incredible, cheers! And stay safe - for the love of God or whoever you pray to, stay safe.

I think something most people didn't realise or glossed over is that FF7R is more similar to a Yakuza game than anything else (Yakuza being a JRPG-lite brawler for most of its series).
Even the Honey Bee Inn dance sequence is like a glossier, but mechanically simplified version of the idol dance concerts in Yakuza 5.

Great video! Just one tiny addition that I only happen to be aware of because I played the original after the demo for the remake: In preparing for the launch, I played the original game on Switch (for a bit at least), and I noticed that Jessie *does* worry about whether she caused more damage than intended. You can talk to her in the hideout and she's like "Look at the news, think that's all because of my bomb? But I only did it like it said in the instructions! Must have made an error somewhere" or something along those lines. However, this is an easily missable bit and is, as far as I am aware, never mentioned again. So the intention was there, but it wasn't fleshed out in the original at all. The only thing I remember it now is because I also thought it was *not* in the game until playing it again now and it stood out.
Also, I absolutely loved the game, although I always found it strange that they'd specifically call it a remake in the title, and even now refer to the next part as FF7 Remake part 2.
But all this talk about the game being meta and dealing with the player's nostalgia feelings inside the story and all that made me think whether the title is in on that? As in, it plays with your expectations of what you think it means, but it's not a remake of the game - rather it refers to the characters inside the game *remaking* the timeline and the world into something different.
Or am I getting too far into tinfoil-hat territory now and it was just a title that matched what people expected (and maybe even what the project started as)?

With Red13's 500 years later scene from the original I always assumed it was just that people moved out of Midgar and gave up on Mako that's all. Also the Zack scene at the end doesn't have to mean he is alive because across the various expansions he has died in a few different places. In fact in one of them he does just outside the Gate from a sniper shot. It could be that he is still dead and that the past is the past up until cloud arrives in Midgar. Also Areith may have sensed Zacks spirit at that point

Fyi in that last fight with sephiroth in the original you are supposed to be pulled into the lifestream where you are pulled into the dark. Also you have 7 seconds to attack him before he attacks you if you don't attack him he takes you down to 1 hp and Cloud automatically does omnislash

Aerith knows everything and is the mastermind behind everything, in Final Fantasy VII Re(do) you won't save her, she turns out to be the villain and you have to team up with Sephiroth to kill her yourself.

    Once again, nice neat video
Does the whispers slash ghosts represented the weird moments and uncontrolled actions in the original? Like one part cloud did stuff as if a shadow version of him controled him to do other things. When sephiroth kills the whispers he changed the future ans the past according tp the zack and cloud entering midgar instead of cloud alone, probably your actions now can be set that you save aerith but she never releases her materia but also one of the avalanche members survive.

When I first played the game and that church part with the Whispers saving Aerith happens, my assumption was that they are essentially the fans of FF7. They are narrators of fate sort of thing and dictate what MUST happen. All the evidence was there whenever detours from the original happened. Given Nomura was in charge, I really believed it was their way of referencing the fans and the pressure the devs are put under to try to make it a shot for shot recreation of the original. Turns out, it was semi-right, though no confirmation on the 4th wall aspect of it being the players lol.
