Welcome to Hollow Knight Speedrunners vs. Titans! Speedrunners must beat the game within two hours, and if they die, they lose a mask! If a player dies at three masks, instead of losing another mask, they become Zote and cannot progress until they finish another mask! This was a ton of fun, and I can't wait to play it again.

A minor rule change that I would add, is allowing Zotes to get abilities if all non Zotes have that ability.
This should stop people getting softlocked, plus allows for the Zotes to steal credit.
You could also add that a non Zote has to be there.
The updated ruleset he mentions will leave Zotes less restricted than this version did.
Zotes stealing credit for other knights' deeds sounds like the most zote rule you can have. I approve.
Was there anywhere we could view this from the Giant's perspectives?

Maybe in the future add a rule that zoted players can also regain one mask by killing a titan. It would help them getting back into the game in the case they have already used up all of their mask shards, as well as creating a unique problem for the hunters; while Zotes are weak, it will be a big problem if you get killed by one. So, the zotes could actually create area denial, where they become the hunters as they have nothing to lose. So on one hand zotefying the speedrunners will slow them down and is one of the two win conditions, but at the same time those speedrunners will become a threat as they might flip the game upside down and start hunting the hunters.

I mean zotes have 1 mask. And the fact its hard to hit while that small, i dont think it will change much at the very least they will trade a hit and the titan will just heal it back while the zote dies. And there isnt enough for them to take a titan down
@@MG7I zotes seem to have three masks. Fireborn got zoted once and he had three masks before getting his fourth mask shard.

Seems like the problem with losing masks is it feeds back: the more you lose the easier losing is.
That's intentional i think; means you have to be really much more careful
This has been addressed with the changes to the ruleset for next time!
@@octosaurinvasion in some games, that makes sense. It would reward players for getting good and not dying. But, in a competitive environment like this, it doesn't make sense to punish the less experienced players by making them worse for dying. If players who died lost max health, it makes it much harder for the less experienced players to keep going. It's like having a race where the runners who fall behind then have to put on weights and slow themselves down, but if they can't catch up, they lose. It makes a comeback very unlikely and makes the point of no return too early to be fun.

If you continue this in the future I think it would be really cool if you gave each titan a different skin. I think it would make them more intimidating and it would be easier to remember which titans were involved in different chases and stuff.

I liked that it takes multiple people to take on a titan, the thematic consistency is awesome. But the reward for doing so didn't seem all that great.
Maybe they should lose 2 masks

Maybe killing a titan allows the speed runners to un-zote someone? I think that might make it a bit more balanced

This sort of gamemode is great! The amount of cooperation can lead to creative ways to proceed, and the intense combat leads to great viewing. I agree that losing masks doesn't seem to be that fun - especially getting locked out of abilities when Zoted. Not sure what the solution is, because there obviously needs to be a penalty for dying, and I don't think losing time fits the format.
Once a more balanced ruleset has been concocted, I actually think a sort of "tournament" would be a good idea - this gamemode especially (with the teams) would very much suit it. If you could get a whole bunch of HK speedrunners/content creators together, I think this would be amazing. There's a few ideas for a tournament format that I've come up with in the last few minutes that might be good, but idk you'd have to flesh it out yourself to see what works and what doesn't.
The updated ruleset he mentions in the vid already addresses the mask issue, everyone on the speedrunner side felt that the death system was too rough in this one.

The combat seemed a little unbalanced, what with the runners having a really hard time fighting back, but I loved the giant vs tiny and the team vs team strats! I'd love to see more of this, though at least without so much of a penalty for death. Seems like the only reason the runners pulled out a win was because of mind games, and as much as I love mind games, I don't think they should be the only way to win.
Titans are 100% stronger, but we didn't have spells and couldn't access half the map
Yeah, knowing where the titans can't go is a big thing. Map knowledge comes in then.

@@railgunnemesis fire doesn’t like/save grubs for reasons I think have something to do with a speed running debate or joke. Basically, it’s a whole thing now that that he doesn’t save em, so he blacks out the screen every time he does in this video

The titans give the vibe of a little kid picking up a log and finding an entire kingdom of bugs underneath.
One thing that I love about these videos is that because you show off both your wins and losses, you're never sure until the end how things will play out

It's a good thing g the screen cut to black at 12:37 I was worried you might save the grub for a second, good thing it just glitched out of the game.
I like how inconsistent the attempts were to cover up saving the grubs. Quick to black, cut and skipped ahead in the video, long cut of black, blured video. Fireborn is Hollow Knight's Wilson Fisk in attempts to cover his actions.

The various music tracks helped really draw me in, from stealth sections to chases. The new ruleset gives me hope for another one of these soon!

This was really fun to watch! Speedrunner/s vs hunters is definitely one of my favorite series to watch, so it'd be great to see more!
this is probably my favorite version of speedrunners vs hunters. the concept is just so funny but the editing is so well done, not being able to hear the hunters anymore really adds to the tension

Maybe it would be easier for runners if progress was collective? That might end up being way too easy though, especially if you’ve already decided losing masks is unbalanced (which it certainly seemed to be haha)
I have an idea:
Attack on titan assault.
X number of smol knights defending an area against Y number of titans.
The objective would be to defend a selected room from invasion.
This was so fun to watch! Also an interesting idea with the masks, but it did trap people a little too much. I was wondering why it didn't take off time, but I assume the times would then have been a mess to work with between players. I am curious as to the ruleset for the next one and I look forward to watching it!

The scrambling and the hectic with the team play elements and overall strategy were really cool!
I don't know how much the mods are making possible but maybe it would be cool if the masks every speedrunner accumulated were pooled and could be withdrawn from runners that tanked 2 giants for some minutes. Would allow them to come back and more overall strategy elements.
the music choice at 15:15 is pure comedy, the silly bongo tune transitioning to thundersnail (which is also an extremely silly endeavor) was excellent 🤣

That was really fun to watch! I liked the added complication of some skips and direct routes working better than usual or not working at all because of the sizes

Its a channel joke. Fireborn doesn't "save" grubs/like them. So to keep up with the joke, the screen is always dark when he gets one.
